Tony Jenner beat Nick Brown 2-0 at Horseshoes tonight. First game messy Tj lweft both up on break, and first to get them back after Nick chased around at top end to score 650. Tj caught split wrong at1k, Nick break broke down at 2k. Tj break back again, added 2k+ to lead by 1400. Nick break back missed ball at 1k+. Tj made sure with break back for fourth time. So it was 4 breaks to 3. Nick opened with 5.5k, TJ got them straight back and worked way to just under 8k and came off just as bar due. From a ridiculous first to one break each.

Martin Smith beat Mick Pope 2-1 at the Tarring Club yesterday.
Neither player could keep a break going on a table which which was not entirely consistent - top break was 1900 in the decider.

I beat Dave Anscombe 2-1 at the Atlas tonight..... Dave played well to win his break game, I hit back with 11k+ in mine and did enough to keep my nose ahead in the decider.

Doug eased his way past me last night 2-0 on a very quick Atlas top.
Well done, and good luck in the next round.

I won 2-1 against Neil Higgins in the 50+ at the Romans
Good game to play in, first was a bit scrappy as both players tried to get their heads around the table. It was my break game but Neil was the clear victor 2k to 7k. In the second Neil with his break built up a lead of more than 7K, but I played the table out for a reply of 10k
The last game was obviously going to be a good one ;D. I put Neil in and his opener of 3k filled me with confidence. Totally misplaced as I was off at 500. Neil got the break back and extended his lead to over 6k, but with the odd bit of good fortune 8-) I overturned the lead and came out the winner.
As I said a great game to play in and the Romans table was excellent. many thanks to the scorers Paul Barnett, Nick Brown and Ros Appleby.
Nick and Jacquie beat Tony J and Ros 2-0 in the mixed doubles.

Sounds as if it was a fantastic match.
And a great example of why best-of-three is a better system than 'highest aggregate over 2 games' that certain Leagues play (and I refuse to take part in !)
Because after Neil's second 7k it would have been 'game over' and your magnificent 10k would have counted for nothing !
With your permission I would like to use this as ammo for future arguments ! ;D

Hi Tommo
both formats have their places and I certainly wouldn't change the match format we have in Worthing where winning best of three is prized above aggregate score.
but the match does highlight that it is possible to be totally out of a game then claw your way back into the reckoning. Feel free to use the example of the game as you see fit.

Thanks for that, Alan.
And I take your point about both formats having their place: On the national stage for instance, highest aggregate over two legs is both fair and convenient and necessary to keep tournaments moving along.
But in the circumstances of a singles competition knockout, going to a faraway place only to get two frames (unless you win 2-0 of course !) leaves a feeling that something is lacking ! Fortunately, most Leagues in Sussex adopt the chosen format........

Interesting debate guys. I also believe that best of three is the best format. In doubles matches I feel that it is important that all 4 players get a chance of a break game! ie players who did not break in the 1st or 2nd game get the equal break game it it goes to three games. Otherwise the game could be dominated by one player. The other aspect we have introduced in Worthing this year for doubles matches is sequencing for the Men's Doubles matches.

Obviously my 1800 and 1200 breaks were too much for you. ;D Incidentally I beat Brian Richards in the Men's singles a couple of weeks ago also at the Marine View and also 2-0. On that occasion I had a 2800 break (do I get a badge or something for this?) Barney (Marine View specialist) 8-)

Nigel Senior and Chris Reeves beat Dave Jones and Chris Lucas 2-0 at the Swan tonight. Also, Dave Jones beat Brian Richards 2-1 at the Old House. Interesting table which changed as the games went on. With the break more friendly!
