My plans have changed and I will not now be attending the events in Portsmouth this weekend due to other commitments which have become so much more important in my life.
My 35 year career is drawing rapidly to a close and I had intended this to be my last Open anyway, but I will sadly not now be able to thank SOME of you for your support over the years.
For those of you who count yourselves in that group, I say THANK YOU and I WILL miss you.
There is a possibility I may turn up at something like an Over-50s event in the future, but I ask no-one to hold their breath.
bye.
anything else would be deleted.

Pete,
Those who have been around long enough will be under no misapprehension that you have been an able administrator and an important guiding light in this game which we know and love and enjoy to this day.
The 64 editions of BBQ which you produced contain an important chunk of the game's history and we thank you for that.
You have achieved at the highest level, winning Opens and representing your country: no one can take that away from you. And yet you have put far more into the game than you have ever taken from it.
Though at times your postings on the Forum have overstepped the boundaries of what is acceptable ;D perhaps some of this has been down to your wacky sense of humour: I have found entertainment in this, others not so much, maybe.
I for one am pleased to hear that you are happy and settled in your personal life, and wish you well for the future. I do hope to run into you at a future event and will buy you a drink should this happen.

Peter,
I echo the remarks made by Clive, and wish you all the very best for the future, and I can say that it has been a pleasure to know you, and also to play against you in open competition, and the Alternate rules as well. You have always come out on top against me, but that means that I have to improve to get to the level you have set. I to have other things in my life, so I hope that maybe one day our paths will cross again, and i would also like the pleasure of buying you a drink. Best wishes to you and your lady for everything that comes your way.

Pete,
If you are indeed calling time on your bar billiards career, our paths are unlikely to cross in future, so I'll say a few words here instead.
Were it not for your immense contribution to bar billiards, we would be without many of the things in the game which we all take for granted nowadays, and the poorer for it. I salute you for this.
As remarked elsewhere, you've had your share of public conflicts with a number of people in BB land. I've often disagreed with your views on certain issues, yet perversely marvelled at your uncompromising irrascibility in fighting your corner. What a magnificent curmudgeon, I shall always think of you as the Mark E. Smith of bar billiards. (in my book, that's a compliment)
I wish you every happiness as you proceed in the new direction in which your life is now taking you. All the best.
Mark

Make that FIVE Pete :P
We`ve known each other for quite a few years now and have always considered you a good friend, as hopefully you with me also ;) I too have never agreed with everything you have said in the past but hey, we`re all allowed our own opinions
The work you have put into Bar Billiards with the Inter Area secretary`s job, AE tournament director, the BBQ (especially the rankings) and some might have forgotten, Pot Black magazine, is phenominal. Your ability as a top player has never been in question as you proved when winning back to back Sussex opens , the Wessex open (now Pompey) and representing England on many occasions. I also remember when you won the AE singles title in 93, the same year i won my first BIOC title and do you remember the three way final when both of us just lost out to Tony Franks in 83.
Like i said, we go back a long way, so whatever your future has in store for you, I hope it works out well. You deserve it :)
Hope to see you again sometime
All the best Katie (as you like to spell it) ;D

Sorry for the late reply, you were missed at the Pompey Wk end, but I am sure you enjoyed yourself without us lot... :-)
Thank you for all the work you have done in Bar Billiards over the last few years (35? year career, you sure, thought you were only 38), and Thank you for doing our Open timings etc and our orig Saturday comp. You have been Fab... (Plus all the smiles I have had reading the BBQ's etc.)
Only one problem you were lined up as mixed pairs partner for Lauren in about 2022, let us know if you feel a come back coming on at that time. ;D
Take care and have a good time :-)
Mary, Brian, Lauren & Keira.
PS Give our Love to Anita.

Ok, guys. Just to cheer you all up, let me tell you that I lost my semi-final games in BOTH of my competitions in Kennington last night, drawing to a close my 35 season league career.
My planned farewell appearance at the Eynsham finals will not now be required.
I am not sad but relieved that I do not have to spend so much time travelling south any more, and can move on to my new life. The plan is now to retire from work in about 12 months, sell up and find some more interesting people in Norwich. A wedding is planned onboard a cruise ship somewhere off Jamaica around April.
I do not see any reason why I would need to log on to this site any more (and so stopping short of 3,600 posts), so no responses are necessary or required. I would just like to conclude by wishing the game all the luck in the world as it struggles through its numerous problems.
I must now re-write a much shorter Christmas card list and move on.
Well, you never know, I could just appear at an Over 50s event in the future, using my walking stick as a cue.
Take care all. XX
