In a comparatively low scoring, but very tense evening at the Plough & Harrow, Bridge the visiting Chequer Inn, Ash came away with a fine 5-1 win to inflict the first defeat of the season on the league leaders.
All three singles were won by the visitors, but each of them had very close finishes where the last break in each proved decisive. Chris Saville ((3,460) pipped Stan Brocklebank by just 300, then Tim Bourner (5,070) won a close game against John Fullager before John Addley (4,170) get a late break of 2k to snatch victory over Kevin Kay.
The first doubles saw Kay & Fullager (5,630) hit back for the home side, but once again some steady scoring and late breaks by the away team saw them win the last two legs as Saville & Addley (4,270) and then Wack Sampson & Saville (4,360) secured an excellent win in this top of the table clash.

In a tightly contested match at the Magnet Inn, Deal the visiting Chequer Inn, Ash came away with an important and well earned 4-2 victory to maintain their unbeaten run in Division One this season.
Chris Saville (7,780) won the opening singles for the Chequer Inn, but Mike Callanan (8,750) immediately hit back for the home side against the break to level the scores. In the final singles game John Addley (6,650) recovered from losing his opening break to snatch a win against John Higgens thanks to a decisive late break,
The first doubles saw Callanan & Higgens (5,320) once again level the match, but Saville & Wack Sampson (4,920) and then Addley & Saville (4,680) secured the overall win, with Saville playing exceptionally well in both legs to ensure the league will be decided on the very last game of the season.

Net result is Chequers finish a busy two days top of the league for the first time this season, but only by one point with the rearranged fixture against second plaved Plough & Harrow to play.

The Chequer Inn, Ash won the Division One title again after the deciding last match at home against their nearest rivals Plough and Harrow Bridge.
With only one point between the teams before this match, the reigning champions went through the season unbeaten and won 5-1 to secure the title in fine style.
Chris Saville (9,490) opened well for the home side with two solid breaks, followed by wins for Neville Potts (5,250) and Tim Bourner (7,200), both against the break, to take a 3-0 lead, enough for a draw and the title.
The first doubles saw Bourner and partner Wack Sampson (4,800) triumph and secure the match win, before the away side hit back through Kevin Kay and John Fullager (6,590). But this turned out to be their only win as Bourner and Saville (6,600) won the last leg with more impressive and timely breaks.
