Can I ask why it is not possible to re-arrange the semi-finals of the second division Indiviuals? Ben and I can not make it to finals night for 5:30 so it looks like we will have to pull out, making the competition pointless as the 2 finalists now will have only played 1 game to get to the final.
The committee seem to be able to bend the rules for other teams/players in order to put another team into the Nene Cup so that competition wasn't pointless and then rearrange the fixtures around one players work rota that technically shouldn’t have been playing as they are registered to another team in Div 1.
We have managed to keep our table in the C&A for next season but I’m thinking now it wasn't worth the effort because the league doesn’t seem to make the effort to encourage people to play the game.

In the past few years, many players have requested that changes be made to finals night to accommodate those who cannot attend for one reason or another. In all cases those changes have not been made. If we change the rules now, then all of those people in the past are going to feel cheated, therefore the same rules apply for this year also. When entering these competitions everyone is well aware that the semi-final and final will be played on finals night, which is always May Bank Holiday weekend. If you know that you are not available for this date then you should not enter in the first place.
As for the Nene Cup, with only three teams in the 2nd Division, the first idea was to have a round robin event, but this would have taken too long to complete before finals night. The Pink Ladies wanted to bring their team together again, and this was approved by the committee in the hope that they would continue as a team into the summer league and subsequent winter leagues. We are all well aware of the dwindling numbers playing the game so every encouragement is given to teams wanting to play. The fact that one game was changed to accommodate work commitments is down to the captain of the opposition. If they are not happy with changing a game then they do not have to. This is out of the committees hands.
The situation you are in this season is unfortunate. We did discuss ways of you being able to play your semi-final prior to finals night and then for you to play the final during the Nene Cup final, but this would also not be possible due to the fact that 2 of you would be in both competitions.
I think it is great that you are able to keep your table for next year as you and the Saints are valuable teams in the Northants Bar Billiards league.
If you still feel that the committee has not done enough for you then please come to the next committee meeting at Burton Cons, 1st May at 8.30pm where the whole committee will be there to discuss it further.

I must agree that this is very unfortunate, but in the last few seasons where i have been competition secretary, there have been about 6 people who have had to pull out as it has not been possible for them to attend finals night, its is always discussed to try to accomodate everybodys wishes but it seems that it is just not always possible. As stated above with both players being involved in the Nene Cup final, which now is set for an 8.00pm start, the draw could come out so that it is not possible to play the semis until after the Nene Cup is finished. Which then to play the 2nd Division Individual semi's and final, we would not be finished until at least 11pm !!!
We always welcome people though to attend commitee meetings to discuss their thoughts and ideas where we can improve our game, competitions and the organising of them.

Just to clarify, as per the constitution any new teams are welcome to join the Nene Cup. This is an open competition available to new teams. Therefore the committee were well within their rights to allow the Pink Ladies to enter the competition.
