I'll bring a car-load.
Like once before, Lloydy was one of my fellow travellers and it was his first-ever Open. He experimented with a different cue-action and did rather well, I seem to recall.

First a suitable venue is needed, one that caters, second it would spell the end of the JWJ tournament as it stands and would revert to the award for the best northants player, nothing wrong with that. When this Open ran before PF did the lions share of the work with help from yours truly and others on the day. It would be nice to start it up again, the main reason for the demise of it was the sponsorship (the winner got £500 ! that's why it was popular) and all the hiring costs, it would have to be on a weekend that incorporates our finals, and , as before, the presentation night, all done and dusted in one weekend. If this does start up again i'm assuming that it will be the same organisers left to do the job as is now with finals, tables, structure and food. IMO the best place to have the thing would be in a hotel, preferbly near to where the organisers live. Suitable venues IMO, Hind (wboro) Royal, George (when it opens), Park house (Kettering) Bridge (Thrapston), This would also give those that want to stop over on the Saturday night the opportunity to do so, I'll leave the Northampton hotels due to the locality for the organisers. Obviously if there are others involved then one can look at other locations. These are only MY thoughts.

Obviously getting sponsorship would be ideal, but not easy, and I hope it doesn't stop this idea getting off the ground. The entry fees should cover the costs of the tournament and if that means reducing the prize money then so be it.
I am not sure how the other opens fund the running cost of the tournaments, but I would imagine that the entry fees cover a large percentage of the costs. Perhaps the Nothants league could make a donations, I know that in the past the Brighton League has made a donation to the Sussex Open.

Thing was Nigel that when this was held at Rushden & direones FC the sponsorship along with free room hire was from Doc Martens/Griggs who owned and bankrolled the club, the club is now virtually bankrupt and is run by their trust. We would need to attract some form of sponsorship, we do have league sponsors and another sponsor who does our Jim Wilson tournament, but IMO we would need more.

I wouldn't want it to be the end of the JWT. Even though the numbers have dropped off slightly that would be the last thing I would want. We could perhaps try and do things a bit differently next year with finals weekend etc. I also think that big prize money or not having big prize money is not that important. I'm sure people would want to play anyway.....................judging by the responses already! ;D

The way we did it before was to award the JWT to the best northants player, you wouldn't want to do two weekends believe me.

I am sure that if everyone wants this to get of the ground the last thing of importance is prize money, surely we should all support just to have an open in an area that supports all other opens.
Once things got underway and the first year proved a success the search for serious sponsors could be undertaken. Maybe for the first year sponsorship could be found from within the bar billiard world.
