Week three of the Abington Glass Summer handicap league and things are beginning to pan out a little. All players receive a points handicap this is based on the players away table average from the previous winter league which is anything from 750 to 5000 points, all newcomers receive 500 points. Example A player with a 3000 handicap plays a player with 2000, the player with 2000 will receive a 1000 point headstart.
Newcomers The locomotive of Wellingboro head group A along with reigning champions Burton Cons. Locomotive captained by 4 pin defector Pete Sutherland AKA Pete the Plumber are enjoying the points advantage that is given to novices in the league that is run to encourage new players, teams and importantly venues.
Burton Cons ran out easy winners against re-formed Pink Ladies 4-0, Burton using the summer to keep blooding their two youngsters Stephen Coleman and Tom Ablitt alongside regulars Ian and Simon Coleman and Chris Lawman.
Reigning winter champs Rushden Cons recorded an excellent result over the TNT Cock (Northampton) 4-0, TNT recently moving venue from the Victoria Inn in playing in what was effectively a first division winter match, Jason Neal top scoring for Rushden (8850).
Burton Exiles make up the other team in this division, Exiles becoming another scalp for the Locomotive.
Group B is headed by Storm Headlands (Northampton), Storm managing a draw with Crown & Anchor Cobblers (Northampton) 2-2, Storm needing the last leg for the two points.
In the groups ther match Headlands FC saw off the Frog & Fiddler (Northampton) 3-1, Headlands captain Dave Evans winning both his singles and doubles match.
The format is again the same as previous seasons, the semi final will see the winner of each group playing the runner up of the opposite group the winner of each will contest the final, the two leg final not due until mid September.
