Tony Temple asked me to publicise this event on his behalf.........
Any teams from Billingshurst/Horsham area wishing to put in a team for this event, please contact either Peter Gibbs or Tony Temple as soon as possible - as the competition is due to start in early June.
The usual format of three singles and two doubles will apply, a Plate will be run as per usual.
As entries have been dwindling in recent years, it is hoped to make the 2011 competition open to any leagues within the administrative county of West Sussex: With the help of sufficient advance publicity, and an increased trophy fund, this long-standing competition could occupy the niche vacated several years ago by Horsham's Festival Cup. :-/

The Railway versus Alfold SC @ The Blue Ship
Mike Cork v Robin Burgess
Both players struggled with an indifferent table, struggling with balls on bottom cushion. Mike did put together a 1k break to take the first game for The Railway.
Mark Davies v Garry Fisburn
Gaz started with a 1.2K break, Mark managed to put a few points on the table, but like the previous game both players were not reaping the benefit of good shots due to the table. Gaz did manage to put another 1.2K together to put the game out of reach, but to be fair to both players, who played well in my view, the table did neither of them justice.
Mick Clack v Malcolm Greening
Mick started well but only managed to put 1K on the board before leaving balls up. The Major did not take advantage and came off without accumulating many points. Mick remained steady throughout the game stringing together a couple more 1K breaks. Not the Majors most confident performance. The result put the Railway 2-1 up.
Mick & Ray v Garry & Dave (Scotty)
Gaz broke confidently and it seemed the singles game earlier gave him an insight to the table as he put nearly 2K on the board. Mick came back in the same vein putting a little less than his opponents score up. Ray and Scotty made decent contributions, but this was a game dominated by Mick and Gaz who held his nerve to steer Alfold to another win 2-2
Mark Davies & Mike Cork v Malcolm Greening and Trevor Goacher
Mark broke and very similar to his singles game struggled to accumulate the points finishing just short of 1K. The Major however, seemed a different player and put together a break just short of 2K. Mick managed to add a few more points for the Railway, with Trevor matching him and more. The next few visits for all players were nip and tuck with modest points being added, before the Major put together another 2K break to seal the victory for Alfold who won 3-2
Mike Cork 2410 Robin Burgess 1700 Mark Davies 2710 Garry Fishburn 4230 Mick Clack 4210 Malcolm Greening 1710
Mick & Ray 3750 Garry & Dave (Scotty) 4440 Mark & Mike 2360 Malcolm & Trevor Goacher 4630
(sorry did not know Ray's surname)
A smashing night with plenty of laughs and banter, it was a shame there had too be a winner.

I do not have any scores but the Dun Horse lost 3-2 to Southwater 'A' with only Tony Franks getting on with the table, at all. Hopefully IanG may have a copy of the scores.
