Pages 54 and 55 may provide a bit of interest to anyone associated with the Home and Away Interleague competition in the years either side of 1980 - either in the A section or the B section.
Tony Temple provided me with an old notebook which provides a full record for Billingshurst A and Billingshurst B over a three-year period, and these match cards and stats have now been integrated.
It has been very interesting seeing names of people who played for Portslade, Worthing, Littlehampton, Crawley etc in those days - many of whom are still playing now.
One mystery exists, and I wonder if anyone can throw any light on it ?
A match between Billingshurst B and Littlehampton B was played at White Horse, Bury on 30/3/81 after the first match (on 5/1/81) was abandoned at 3-3!
The question is, what caused the first match to be abandoned at 3-all ?
- possibly match overran and final frame couldn't be played as the landlord had called "Time".........licencing laws were a lot stricter in those days.

Website may be look strange for a couple of days as I have been obliged to make some more space by shuffling page numbers.
Updates have been taking a while to come through, but hopefully it will be reading okay soon.

Hall of Fame Page seems to be the only one not reading correct at the moment. - resolved 08/05/12.

As luck would have it, the long-lost Runners-up cup turned up last night at the club. ::) Not presented to us (Mill House Dragons) at the Final last August, but thankfully found last night on a shelf at Roffey Club. Has polished up rather nicely and will be returned along with the Winners cup at next month's AGM. Here is a list of the engraving, which will fill a huge gap in known information on the website: JUBILEE TEAM KNOCKOUT RUNNERS-UP CUP 1977/78 Green Man 1778/79 Michell A 1979/80 Mucky Duck A 1980/81 Green Dragon 1981/82 Alfold SC 1982/83 Coot A 1983/84 Alfold SC 1984/85 Bell A 1985/86 Green Dragon A 1986/87 Green Dragon A 1987/88 Alfold SC 1988/89 Green Dragon A 1989/90 Blue Ship 1990/91 Crown 1991/92 George & Dragon 1992/93 1993/94 1994/95 Wheatsheaf 1995/96 Cranleigh RBL 1996/97 George & Dragon 1997/98 Green Dragon (no engraving after this date.) The last four years are known - thanks to the Forum - and could be added. Any information anyone has on the 2 'missing' years and the nine years between 1998/99 and 2006/07 will be welcome.

Billingshurst website finally working as it should, following a problem whereby the dependant pages on the menu didn't match and I had to wipe all the files and reload them from scratch yesterday. ::) www.billingshurstbarbilliards.co.uk/News, Fixtures/Competitions, League Table all now have their own dedicated pages, and the two Interleague pages have been merged into one to create the extra space needed. And the 'about us' page showing the League venues now contains links to their own websites. 8-)

The work begins.........finals night results, photos, and updating Roll of Honour - all work in progress. In the tradition started on this thread, I have made a detailed study of the engravings on the Second Division Winners Shield, and compared them with what is displayed on the website, and have found two "anomalies" - which will be amended on the website as there is zero chance they are errors by Percy or Peter. The first one is 1986/87, which has a shield bearing the name Green Dragon B (and not Crown). It transpires that a Christmas table was the only one that could be found for that season, showing the Crown top - so obviously the Green Dragon were able to overhaul them in the months remaining ! The second one is a year later (1987/88) which has a shield for Cranleigh RBL, whereas according to the published final table, Windmill finished top with Cranleigh second. The conclusion here was that as the two teams finished level on points, a play-off for the title was ordered, with the result going the way of Cranleigh RBL. One final point of interest is that I now know the first three winners of Div.2 since its inception, and they can now be added to the relevant webpage. These are: 1967/68 Southwater CC A 1968/69 Cricketers B 1969/70 Three Compasses This now resolves the mystery of the old picture of the Southwater team on the Archives/Photos page: they are actually holding the shield in the middle of the picture (I had to do a double take ! :o :o) so that can now be billed as the picture of the first ever winners of the award when it was commissioned in 1967/68!

Errors now corrected and the Hall of Fame updated, including a new page for the 2013 Finals Night (some photos still to be added.)
Next time I'm at Roffey I will have a look at the magnificent First Division shield, as I need to take note as to who were the first five winners.
Yes, done and added to Hall of Fame. - tommo

On the Mid Sussex board I have explained something about the loss of a huge chunk of the website which was designed four years ago using software that is no longer supported by my provider. This is necessitating a complete re-design of the website, which I have already made a start on.
So far progress has been slow, as time as moved on and things don't work exactly as they did before: I am having to learn/try to grasp the new concept of CSS (= Cascading Style Sheets) and a whole new selection of accompanying features, as well as trying to transfer across 40-odd webpages using a File Transfer Protocol client.
Although the Horsham and Billingshurst websites were unaffected, I will be obliged to similarly re-design these also, as they use my free computer space but are inextricably linked ("pointed") to Mid Sussex. Which means that when the new Mid Sussex goes live, they will have to follow in their new format, which also means they won't be visible for a couple of days.
Horsham and Billingshurst will remain in their present state for as long as possible, with only limited updates (I think the daily 'sweep' for movement has become a weekly one, so you'll have to bear with me).
Hopefully, though, the end results will be worthwhile as they will be less simplistic and have more of a professional feel to them.

Just to confirm that, as I conveyed to JT on Tuesday, as a result of problems and delays with getting the new design websites under way, I will be now be holding on to the websites in their current format for as long as humanly possible! I can no longer add new pages, but am fairly confident at being able to work with the 40 pages that exist at present. And I have good backup. I will record some of the problems I have encountered - and solutions found - on the Mid Sussex thread separately.

A study of the engraving on the Div 1 Runners-up cup has revealed the following winners, hitherto unknown: 1965/66 Kings Arms A 1966/67 Blacksmiths 1967/68 Five Oaks A 1968/69 Five Oaks A 1969/70 Cricketers A This info will now be incorporated into the Roll of Honour on the website - as will all of last night's winners and runners-up. The Team Cup Winners details are completely intact on the website, but I could do with a sight of the Team Cup Runners-up Cup sometime - as the information is missing for 15 of the years between 1965/66 and 1990/91. If someone can let me know when it has found its way safely into the Stout House I'll ask Barry if I can have a quick squiz ! Thanks, tommo The Div One Runner-up Cup

Just noticed the date for the AEBBA "off the spot" comp is wrong on the website.
It's Sunday 27th July.
Not sure where the May date came from ?

Thanks Curt, It was copied verbatim from another source - obviously before dates were set in stone.
I'm due for an update of the calendar with the recently-announced Autumn dates for the AEBBA competitions, so will address this now. Same for my other two websites !
tommo
PS Of course in an ideal world we'd be able to see all the information at the drop of a hat on the perfectly good Forum Calendar which no b*gger can be bothered to update !

tommo's been busy over the last few days......... - News updated (some put into archive);
- Finals Night report moved;
- Comps page shows Jubilee Cup Draw;
- Roll of Honour updated;
- League Averages page updated;
- League tables page updated;
- Interleague pages updated.
All pages with a button link have been converted to Google-style web pages. This will make life easier when I eventually become obliged to redesign the main menu pages (something I've managed to avoid since last Christmas !). Not only does this invisibly reduce the size of the website, but I can update the Google pages in real time (ie with changes visible immediately !)

I can no longer add new pages, but am fairly confident at being able to work with the 40 pages that exist at present. And I have good backup. John wanted a special page for the spanking new set of Billingshurst Rules which were painstakingly compiled when the old ones mysteriously vanished and no-one could find a copy ! These were authorised at the recent AGM. I have addressed this on the website by making the Fixtures/Competitions tab exclusively for Competitions, and replacing the Crawley Page which now reads Fixtures/Rules (well it will do when the service provider gets round to updating the menu template for me !) Here for your dilectation: www.billingshurstbarbilliards.co.uk/page10.htmlThe Crawley Page is in the process of being transferred to the Horsham website instead..... Resolved.

Try this for size.......a full history of bar billiards on a National scale in three separate parts:
Click on where is says TIMELINE at the top of the Billingshurst Hall of Fame page, making your selection from the three choices available: 1972-ON 1991-ON 2007-ON
Everyone who has ever won something nationally is in there somewhere, and I am constantly updating with extra photos. The third file provides links to each of the 30 Newsletters so far from Nigel Senior.
Okay, let's try one.......Jim Greensted was recently a semi-finalist, but in which Open ? v v v Click on (3) There he is: 2012 Kent Classic Nigel newsletter 22, click on that ....and read all about it !
[edit - this may not work straight away, overnight update may have to run]

Converted the News page over to Google Cloud (for personal convenience) but for some reason it wouldn't display on Firefox - although it worked perfectly okay when using Google Chrome as the search engine. In view of this I have been having a further dabble which has involved realigning the menu into a more logical sequence. But this could take a couple of days to ripple through to the www. version of the site. In the meantime, best to use this link rather than www. version: home.btconnect.com/horshambarbilliards.co.uk/(yes, it says horsham, but billingshurst website is piggybacked onto it and shares the webspace)

Unfortunately my 'fix' didn't work with Firefox which has something built into it which makes it default to the other website if a main page listed on the menu is 'missing'. I have been troubleshooting this problem for the last couple of weeks and only just arrived at this conclusion.
I have been obliged to convert more of the Horsham files over to Google to allow further shuffling with the menu on both sites. The rest of the solution involves restoring links, deleting unused pages and renaming of buttons on one website, and a massive renumbering of pages on the other.
This all takes time, and I would ask you to bear with me if the Horsham and Billingshurst websites seem to be behaving strangely for a while.
Hope to have it all done and dusted by the end of the weekend.

WHOOPIE - DO ! After much wailing and gnashing of teeth - over what is probably the last 3 weeks - the latest fix seems to have worked......with everything still crossed (arms legs fingers toes) HDBBL website seeming to work on both Google Chrome and Firefox, finally. Now just have to bring Billingshurst back and touch wood that too will be okay tomorrow. The troubleshooting continues.........having cleared the caches on both browsers and reset Firefox completely, I now know which path I have to go down. The problem is to do with the website's Index which controls the Menu and which has somehow become corrupted. At present, rightly or wrongly, the topframe and the homepage are pulled together to form the Index. But I have an idea the Menu page should also be linked in to form part of the equation. Sorry to be so specific, but this gives a good example of what happens when you get a 'bug' in the system and have only limited time, skills and patience to sort it out ! Meanwhile, please continue to use the website from the following link: home.btconnect.com/horshambarbilliards.co.uk/

Change of plan !
I have now decided the best way forward is to reconstruct the website using the copy I saved back in June. So I am now digging in for the evening armed with Lemsips and two laptops.
The link I gave will show old information whilst I work towards the target, so "Bear with".
