I think it's definitely time for an English manager of the National side again, my choice would be Harry Redknapp with Louise Redknapp as the trainer. ::) :-* ;D ;)

;Dwhat's proper football? do you mean the premiership, which is full of foreigners, which is why the national team is what it is :-/ Yes, Blue Square Premiership. ;D ;D ;D Good point, which Sav touched on earlier: English national league at top level has been overrun by foreigners. The abilities of the few Englishmen in the top sides are flattered by the service they get from their world-class teammates. When they are extracted to play together as England, they don't get the same service and only have each other to rely on (eg no Torres for Gerrard to link to, no Drogba for Lampard to link to, etc.) So while the situation is allowed to remain, our National Side is always going to be a pale shadow of our multi-talented Premiership sides.

Louise though don't think the FA have an issue with her......where are my boots! ;)!

Just a thought.....
Is England the only team where every player plays in their domestic league? ???
Maybe that should be an advantage?
Good game today with good officials think every decision was vindicated with the exception of getting hoodwinked for the penalty in the 93rd minute! Not sure that Nederlands were that convincing but you did get the feeling they were ready to crank it up if they needed to.....we shall see!

I would disagree with this, how many truly World Class players are there in the Premier League ? If you selected a World XI, how many would come from the Premier League ? I can't think of any! But the Premier league do have a lot of mediocre foreign players and the reason for this is...... they are cheaper to buy !

I would agree 50% only on that. Good point that a good percentage of them don't cut the mustard. But I'm talking teams like Arsenal and more recently Man City who play continental-style football and their world-class foreigners are a foil for any Englishmen lucky enough to get a chance in the team.

But I'm talking teams like Arsenal and more recently Man City who play continental-style football and their world-class foreigners are a foil for any Englishmen lucky enough to get a chance in the team. According to the Premier League Website, there were 337 foreign players last season..... almost 17 per Club. :o Little wonder that the English players find it hard to break into the top teams...... regardless of how much talent they may have...... especially when they cost more than most of the foreign equivalents. ::) Having said that, I blame the Clubs themselves for the demise of English Talent..... with so much money sloshing around thanks to the Television Deals, it is far easier to pay the money and get foreign players in for a quick result than it is to invest and develop young players here. :'( However, if you then compare that outlook to Barcelona, who are arguably the best Club Team in the World..... much of their success is down to the players that they have nurtured through their youth policy (La Masia) which has produced some of the best players around...... including Josep Guardiola, Albert Ferrer, Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernández, Gabri García, José Manuel Reina, Víctor Valdés, Gerard Piqué, Andrés Iniesta, Sergio García, Sergio Busquets, Cesc Fàbregas, Lionel Messi, Pedro Rodríguez, Mikel Arteta and Jeffrén Suárez....... with minimal outlay. ;D ;D ;D Until the Premier League teams are forced to have a minimum number of English players..... which will then mean that they have to invest time and resources into producing good home grown youngsters..... the England Team will not be able to effectively compete at International level. As for Fabio Capello's excuse that the reason England lost to Germany was that "the players were tired"...... surely it is the job of the Coach to ensure that the team he picks are all fit and able to play. :P Personally, I have never heard such a load of nonsense, especially as the season ended over a month ago..... and I can't say that I have noticed any of the foreign players in the Premier League who are representing their countries looking so "tired" that they cannot tackle, head, pass or shoot the ball in the direction that they want to....... all of which seemed to be beyond the "Golden Generation" of England players! ::) I hope that the FA realise that being a successful Club Manager..... with plentiful resources to buy the players that you want...... does not necessarily mean that you are a good international manager.

Cesc Fabregas left Barcelona when he was sixteen. Arsene Wenger is the one who has made the player he is today not Barcelona.
The youth team at Arsenal is one of the best in the country except possibly Southampton. You will start to see the youngsters coming through or maybe sold on to benefit other lower premier/championship sides players like Jack Wilshere, Sanchez Watt, Henri Lansbury, Craig Eastmond, Kerrea Gilbert and Mark Randall to name a few. And they are all English!
And if Cesc does go back to Barcelona there is an ideal replacement in Aaron Ramsey when he is fit again

Talking of Arsenal youngsters, England left the best one (Theo Walcott) at home. Maybe the players you've named will form the new 'Golden Generation' - certainly the existing so called one has become somewhat tarnished!

Watching Brazil v Holland at the moment. Great match.
20 mins to go, Brazil are 1-2 down, we'll see what they're made of.....
73 mins......Brazil now have had a man sent off for trampling on Arjen Robben. It's hotting up....................
That's it, Brazil are out, but at least they showed some fight right to the last.
Holland v who of ? Argentina/Germany/Spain ? in the Final. We'll have to wait for Semifinal 2 on Wednesday to find out. :-/

Interesting post this is. We started off with a discussion on who would win the World Cup it then progressed onto nearly three pages of why England lost, got knocked out and what should be done about it. My answer to that is teach our youngsters better and give them more competition. The coaches who teach youngster I have spoken to tell me that they could only get the kids to warm up by getting them to run around the park. Only qualified physiotherapists could give the kids further warm up exercises in case the kids got injured. What about the games they play in, can they not get injured in those? When I was at school the local schools had a football league and it was quite competitive. Seems now the do gooders have ruined that because they feel that the kids who keep losing may get a feeling of inferiority. Load of c**p. >:(
One last thing before I return to my nest. Note I said Spain right from the beginning. :) :)
Not that I don't like blowing my own trumpet ;D and being big headed ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well done indeed, Dave. Out of 19 votes polled you were the only one who went for Spain. ;D
Makes you the outright winner. 8-)

Sorry to say England seem to be just a one trick pony this tournament with too much reliance on Rooney who couldn't score in a brothel at the moment. Or could he .............. ? More predictions and breaking news on guernseygossip.com
