Burton Cons hold on to top spot in Group A in the Abington Glass sponsored summer handicap league by virtue of a 2-2 home draw to TNT Cock Hotel, Burton, losing the first two legs to a Jim Thomson and then a Dave Williams victory looked doomed but TNTs challenge fizzled out as first Ian Coleman grabbed the last singles frame and then youngsters Tom Ablitt and Stephen Coleman secured the doubles leg. Exiles remain in second place by securing a 2-2 draw at Rushden Cons, Damian Coates and Andy Chambers taking legs for Rushden sandwiching a win by Exile Mick Loake. The real drama however was left to the doubles game, Rushdens Jason Neal amassing some 9000 points to almost guarantee victory saw that score evaporate when partner Jim Smith fell the black peg later in the game to wipe out the whole score and hand the leg to a grateful Loake and Leigh Holmes. Pink Ladies recorded their first victory of the campaign with a fine 3-1 success at home to the Locomotive, Sisters Michelle and Leanne Higginson taking both their singles matches and then sharing the duties in the doubles leg, only Pete Sutherland able to reply for the Loco. Group B has a new leader, Crown and Anchor Saints take over at the top after winning away at the Frog and Fiddler 3-1, The Saints went marching as they took both opening legs through Simon Millward and Dave Wilton, Chris Stalker stopped the rot for Fiddler but it wasn't to be as Millward and Gary Tipping took the doubles leg for the Saints. Headlands FC moved a step closer to the top two after dispatching The Crown and Anchor Cobblers 3-1, Sean Getty, Dave Evans and Rich Botterill all scoring for the footballers, Ben Foster and Al Humphries getting the boot in for the Cobblers in the doubles leg.
