Week eight in the race to qualify for the semi final spots in the Abington Glass sponsored Northants league sees group A looking as if it could be any two from the now top four.
Burton Cons lead the group by five points from second placed Exiles, Burton have two tough remaining games left, first host Rushden Cons and then lastly have to travel to the Cock Hotel to face The TNT. It was business as usual for Burton this week as they dispatched lowly Pink Ladies 3-1, Burton fielding an all Coleman line up, with wins from firstly Simon followed by Ian and Stephen, The ladies however, got the doubles match courtesy of sisters Michelle and Leanne Higginson by overcoming father and son Simon and Stephen.
Exiles meanwhile moved into second spot with 3-1 win over league newcomers The Locomotive, The Exiles won the three singles matches through Ian and Paul Jellis with Mick Loake adding the third, Loake and Leigh Holmes couldn't however land the doubles leg which Duncan Sutherland and Micky Keen won for the Loco. Cock TNT and Rushden cons make up the top four but both unable to play this week, Rushden with three games in hand look likely to be a main contender for one of the top two spots.
Group B is now headed by The Storm, this group is now a three horse race with Crown and Anchor Saints and Headlands FC sitting second and third respectively. The Storm made use of the Saints free week with a good 4-0 win over bottom markers The Cobblers, wins for Jason Dunkley, Shane king and Jon Coe in the singles. The doubles match was dominated by an opening break of 10,230 for Ben Foster of the Cobblers, Ben, in trying to leave the table, with break intact, missed the ball which was behind the 30 hole losing his break which would have been his first plus 10k.
Third placed Headlands FC stay in touch, although a game in front of the Saints there's still a possibility of the semi final spot, Headlands took care of the Frog and Fiddler 3-1 with wins for Nick Faulkner and Richard Botterill, with Faulkner and Sean Getty partnering for the doubles win.
