For those of you who didn't know... I used to race slot cars before returning to Bar Billiards. Currently the ISRA World Championships are being held in Chicago, its a week long event and for the first time its being shown live via webcam. We complain about early start times in BB land but these guys are racing already... at 8.30am Chicago time :o I believe it starts at around 8 each morning :o :o There are a number of Brits competing including Brian Saunders who I sortof coached in his early days. Anyway my point is.... Slot cars... Bar Billiards... both minority sports, so why dont we have our World Championships somewhere exotic ;) dont get me wrong, I love Jersey but somewhere like the Seychelles would be nice for a change, and we could have the whole thing on webcam. ;D Link to Chicago world slot car champs webcamFor anyone who is interested the format for racing is (as far as I can remember) each driver has one minute track time to post his/her individual fastest lap, these qualify you for a series of finals with the fastest 8 drivers in the A-final, the finals are segmented ie each driver uses all the lanes in turn and the total distance travelled determines the winner. There are a number of classes of racing held throughout the week. Have a peek, these cars are VERY quick, they lap the circuit in around 4 seconds.

........plus, to make the trip worthwhile it would have to be for more than just a long weekend. Which all goes to bump up the costs.
I like the advert by the way where Omid Djalili catches Mansell's car: "Nigel, when it comes to negotiating a hairpin bend you are world class, but when negotiating Insurance you are British!" ;D

I think we should look for sponsorship . . . . . . . LOTS of sponsorship :-)
BTW the idea of having the final live on webcam was actually a serious suggestion, if facilities at the hotel allow.
