Burton Cons 3 Cock A 2
Apologies to the Cock for the poor Cons table. The thing now has leg adjusters that have been screwed right in, how this has happened I don't know ??? but it needs sorting out, the front two legs appear wonky, this, I believe is due to the amount of times that the thing has been 'dragged' across the floor to be put against the wall. We were told last night that it will be moved again for the weekend as there is a do there on Friday and sunday night. We have moved it against the wall ourselves. We told the people there that the table is knackered, but they seemed not to care and just joked that they would give us some books to level it up. This is the exact same table that was our home board at Barton, there it enjoyed a consistent 15+ years, high scores, many league titles etc etc. The beauty at Barton was it was NEVER moved about. At the Cons it has never been good, or on a rare occasion maybe, no body has any confidence on it. People are saying, ' why don't you move?' 'why don't you go to Thrapston?' Well, the intention was not to do that, the intention was to have a table installed for us Thrapston boys so that we could have a game when we fancied it, not to pressure anyone into moving 'just because we have a table in the town'. That is a selfish thing and is not my way of behaving. Our intention was/ is to have a summer team there on our doorstep. The Thrapston table is looked after and does not get dragged about and plays well. I am really looking forward to the next summer league, can't wait. Just one thing, We were going to set the Cons table up last night after the game but having it moved against the wall put pay to that i'm afraid.

I personnally would never say that you having a table in Thrapston is a selfish thing at all Ian.
All I want to know is now...........when do we move!! I am prepared to play from Thrapston after seeing that table and venue at the Kipling Event, and after seeing the attitude of the Cons first hand!! Can't see it staying open anyway!!
I know that it has to be a team decision (including the Exiles) but at least everyone knows my feelings now.

We haven't fully discussed it yet but I think the majority are for moving to Thrapston as we are sick of playing on a table where there is no possibility of improving our game. Looks like we will be going Thrapston on Friday if there is a do on at the Cons so maybe we can talk about it then. We had a really good night last night at Rushden and I am sure if we had a decent table to practise on we could have given the Rushden lads a better game.

I spoke with Dave the manager at the pub last night, I explained the situation with him, he is more than happy to receive both teams, which is obvious. The food situation is the same as the skittles team...it's free on match nights. The skittles play Mondays, it'll be every other week. I'm told that the Exiles have cancelled their game next Monday due to the table. well if you do move then you can play there monday.
let me know.

Selfish in as much that the end game was to move here? No, I would stay at the Cons for as long as everybody wanted to for the winter league. Move for the Summer 2008 though. Next week if you like.

Thats whats good to see as well, with people wanting to play on good boards to better themselves, with the Exiles that has always been the case and you can see the improvement that has been made in the last few years. But after speaking to the Cons on Monday with Chris, i could of easily of told them there and then " thats it for me ". They were not interested at all and the choice we were given was either put books under the legs or move back in the back room!!!! >:( :-/ I'm afraid that they are both out the question for me >:(

I do wonder what is going on there, but i've never heard anybody talking in there about closing down. I will have to think about re newing my membership though in light of the conversations that are being had.

Pete's last words to me when we left were, write a letter to the committee to tell them the problems. They will do their upmost to do what they can to keep you. They know that need you here on a Monday and a Friday.
With the attitude of the ex-Chairman and of the Steward, I think the letter is a waste of time!
