Due to the inclement weather at the moment it is highly likely that tonight's C-team Shield Final at the Post Office Club Reading will be postponed until later. :( Please contact your respective team captains or Terry Alder for up-to-date info.
cheers Tony

Many, many congratulations to the Wallingford D team on taking the Inter Area C team Shield last night at the Post Office Club, Reading after an exciting game of billiards against past winners Wallingford C. Not only was this their first victory in this competition, it was the first time that a D team has won the title in the Shield's history. The C team went ahead 2-0 with good wins from Paul Caistor and chairman Terry Alder against Chris Bateman and Jon Scoones respectively and it was looking as though the mighty C side were taking the title with ease. The D team had other ideas though and struck back to make it 2-2 with solid wins by Arthur McIntyre (5260) against rising star Lewis Stratford (4000) and Frank Cox with a dogged 3550 to captain Mike Sheppard's 1740. The final game was between Pete Barnes (C) and Bert Lovegrove (D) and the scene was set for a tense finish. As it happened Bert found the table to his liking and had a break of 7320, the highest of the night, and enough to take the title for a jubilant Wallingford D team. The trophy was kindly presented by ex-chairman Phil Hawkins to D team captain Sonya McIntyre and the PO club provided an excellent supper to round off a great evening. Thanks to Terry Alder for arranging everything, to Phil for setting up such a fair table and to the Post Office Club for their hospitality on the night. Both teams have performed consistently well throughout this year's contest and this game was a fitting finale for the 2010 Inter Area season - well done to both of them for reaching the final of this prestigious competition. Scores were; WALLINGFORD C WALLINGFORD D Paul Caistor 5780 Chris Bateman 5520 Terry Alder 5200 Jon Scoones 3400 Lewis Stratford 4000 Arthur MacIntyre 5260 Mike Sheppard 1740 Frank Cox 3550 Pete Barnes 3900 Bert Lovegrove 8200
Highest break 7320 by Bert Lovegrove
cheers Tony PS Don't forget Inter Area AGM at Bletchington FC on Sunday at 2.30pm[/b]

Well done to Wallingford D 8-)
So does that mean that the highest away breaks go to Mark Turner in the Inter Area Cup and to Pauline Withey for the C Team Shield ladies break??
Why is there only a highest away break for the ladies in the C Team Shield?

Why is there only a highest away break for the ladies in the C Team Shield? Keith Hi Keith Due to 'administration difficulties' :( we have been unable to definitively resolve highest breaks at the moment. I am almost certain that Mark takes the highest break in the main contest and that Bert Lovegrove's break in the C team final takes the C team highest break. I have Bert on 7320, Jenny Florey on 7150 and Sue Atkins on 7020. Pauline's highest recorded by the Secretary appears to be just 4840. I don't know where you got your info about only Ladies being eligible for C team high breaks unless you know something I don't ??? ??? cheers Tony

Hi Tony, when the Inter Area Ladies finished a few years ago and were introduced into the C Team Shield it was decided that there would be a ladies highest away break as well and as Jenny's & Sue's break were at home then this would mean Pauline would get it as hers was away.
I was wrong to ask why there isn't a mens break as there is one for the C Team Shield.
It's also a shame to hear of "administration problems". :(

I just have a list... I'll sort it out before the Sevens and please apologise to Pauline for me when you see her next. So as far as we are aware :-/ it stands at the moment; Main high away break - Mark Turner 16,600 C team Shield high away break - Bert Lovegrove 7,320 Ladies high away break - Pauline Withey 4,840 cheers Tony
