Good luck all. Result cards should be at all venues. Landlords were sent them last week.

Gardeners 'B' have just phoned to advise that, due to illness, they cannot raise a team tonight. We are hoping to re-arrange.

Good luck all. Result cards should be at all venues. Landlords were sent them last week. Atlas B v Swan A No Result Card at the Schooner, landlady knew nothing about a match being played there last night and said that she was "fed up with never being notified of Cup matches, every time there is a match the first thing she knows about it is when the teams walk in"....... No food for us then, sadly the same thing happened to us at the Romans in the Preliminary Round. :'( >:( And so to the game itself...... Alan Messer 1,630 - 1,490* Dave France Dave off very early with a peg, Alan managed a 2k break but then took the black peg on a later visit to the table and it turned in to a real battle with the balls stuck at the back of the table after that. 1-0 Edge Butler 840* - 1,240 Chris Scott Edge off early and neither player able to get the balls back after that, Chris playing the back of the table slightly better to take the win. 1-1 Gina Sherratt 880 - 1,190* Terry Denyer Terry off early, Gina did get the break back and looked to be building a winning lead at 2.5k only to lose the break with an unfortunate peg and the game then turned into another episode of the first 2 games with Terry just staying far enough in front. 1-2 Dave Ingram 1,980* - 2,670 Vern Blake I managed to open up a lead of nearly 1k early in the game with Vern struggling, he then got the break back.... :o .....and knocked in a very good 1.8k break to overtake me. I did have one chance late in the game, got caught out by the table again and never managed to catch him up. 1-3 Charlie Cooper w/over v Ron Brewer Perhaps Ron knew what the table was like and made the sensible choice of not turning up on the night...... :'( 2-3 As for the piece of firewood that pretends to be a bar billiard table, if I really gave my true feelings about this then I would deservedly receive a lifetime ban from the Forum..... perhaps the match scores say enough anyway. Suffice it to say that I don't think any competition matches should be played here in the future. >:( :-X At least the teams enjoyed each others company and there was plenty of mutual support and commiserations during each game...... ;D Congratulations to the Swan A, who fully deserved their victory on the night and we wish them good luck in the next round...... as they said as they were leaving "at least neither of us will have to play here again this year"! 8-)

Schooner - 0 - 5 - Swan `B`. Best game of the night was Doug V Helen with Doug touching up on 4.000 plus being kind, and Helen coming back with a 5.000 plus break shocking Doug back into action to finish on 6.000 plus.
Great food curry, chilli and rice.

Gardeners A 1 Duke of Wellington 4
S.Aylmore * 1340 8390 N.Senior Steve of early when he played ball in frnt of 50 hole, slow ball and it rolled left to cushion before hitting ball, Nige lost 4k but got them back and made sure.
A.Squires 3850 H.Brooks * 4670 Henry opened with 2.5k, Adam struggled with roll and couldn`t get them back, Henry got increasingly frustrated with not reading the roll. Adam got them back built small lead, Henry eventually got them back to make sure.
TJ * 2940 Tupps 2760 TJ off at 1.5k then turned into battle at top off table as Tupps got no run of the balls, but he kept chipping away and had first go at 100 to win, whipped out, TJ made sure
R.Cunningham nil P.Brown * 2620 Pete off at 1.5k, Rick could not get to grips with the top.
D. Anscombe * 1940 M.Spier * 3630 With the game over Terry Molloy stood down and Dave played instead. Both players played within themselves as expectes when match over in a cup situation.
Card was set out on table for us and we were supplied with sandwiches at the end. Shame that at least one venue was not aware of game at their pub, but majority do seem to have been aware and supplied hospitality.

Schooner - 0 - 5 - Swan `B`. Best game of the night was Doug V Heather with Doug touching up on 4.000 plus being kind, and Heather coming back with a 5.000 plus break shocking Doug back into action to finish on 6.000 plus. Great food curry, chilli and rice. Just a little point that it was Helen (not heather, dont know who she is lol) who really went like a girl posessed. Needless to say we're all very proud of her! Here are the scores from the match: Schooner 0 - 5 Swan B J. Hudson 0590 - 4610 B. Richards * * H. Cleveland 5170 - 6350 D. Mahy A. Brewster 2000 - 6360 R. Taylor * * A. Cleveland 1380 - 5250 M. Squire (EB) J. Shurey 1580 - 5310 P. Oakley (EB)

The unfortunate fact is that it is seriously miss treated when we are not around to keep an eye on it. The number of ring marks seem to increase every time we come to either practice or play a match and nothing we say does any difference. I agree completely that the table should not be included in cup matches for starters. I cant say much else here about my feelings as (like david) i feel too that I would be banned, I'm just sorry it had a negitive impact on you and your opersition team's evening David.

Well done to Helen on highest score so far this season, and at least gave Doug a bit of a scare.
Jay the problem with the table being mistreated is the main reason we left the pub for new venue. We always were fighting a loosing battle trying to keep it decent, unfortunately the locals do not give a damn, and Gina was not always around. She was always supportive, but like most venues these days the landlords do not play the game, therefore do not always understand the problems with tables being ill treated.

From Hem; this computer is still logged to Jay's account.
Agreed. I would not be offended in anyway if, and infact do encourage, it to be withdrawn from competitions. As you said, keeping that table going is an ongoing battle. We're struggling immensely with it, even in practice. When its levelled, ironed and cleaned it plays beautifully; flat as a die and most things go. BUT as you said, the locals bump into it, we grow sticky beer rings weekly and its not an enjoyable play. And mysteriously our balk line seems to be on the drink.
The only way for that insult to tables to be playable would be for us to level it a minute before the match (and hope the rings dont stick to the balls). Which we will have to start doing for normal winter league matches in the future.
My highest score & highest break in a while. Defo proud of that.
