I was in the Cowley Workers Club last night and noticed that the Club are trying to sell their Bar Billiard table on the notice board.
It is a table that is in good condition and one that used to be my home table at the Nelson.
Anyone interested should contact the club on 01865 772920
Asking price is £1,000 o.n.o.

I was in the Cowley Workers Club again last night playing snooker and the BB table was still there with a cover over it, although the pool table had gone!!
It will be shame when it goes, but it will still be better than it just sitting there with nobody playing on it.

This "Jelkes" table is still for sale. :o
I will pop in and take some photos of the table and put them on here, so any potential buyers can see it.

A grand sounds a bit steep to me, £750 - 800 is more realistic.

Having seen a number of e-bay tables and taken the groups advice I'm still being patient and keeping my gunpowder dry waiting for the right machine. I guess it will be like those pesky buses that never seem to come only for two to arrive just as you get in the taxi!!
For anyone on the group who is thinking about selling, and has a nice Jelks in the £500 to £750 range then please give me a tug
Going to a pinball show in Worthing this weekend so must resist the temtation of blowing my hard earned "bar billiard" money on another pinball machine.
Cheers Dave

Hi,
Tables are normally fairly sparse on Ebay for a couple of months after Xmas.

What about making an offer to the table for sale at the Cowley workers club, that Milko pointed out.

"Couldn't you just grab a bit more tax"
Yeah that made me laugh, if only I was a taxman but that was a nickname given to me by my "friends" in the UK Pinball group and one that has unfortunately stuck.
Gave Cowley a ring last night and fixed up to go and see the machine this lunch time Worth a punt I think

Table has provenance so safer than Ebay, also a £1 clock makes it more resellable.
If you buy it vital you transport it on its side and not flat

Thanks Sav for the info on transportation definitely going to come in handy as I did the deal with a couple of very nice guys this afternoon. Paid £500 for a table in pretty good condition although it will need to be recovered in the not too distant future. Three black shiney marks around the D which look pretty immovable and spoil the overall apperance. Not picking up till Monday as I'm off to a Pinball Show in Worthing.
Along with the table came the usual cues, balls etc but also a very smart hanging light assembly very much in the style of those used on a full size billiard tables. I thought that was something of a result so overall happy with the deal
Any other advice from anyone on the group about transport, setting up, cleaning would be much appreciated
Cheers Dave

Sounds like you have a steal there if it is the Cowley Workers one which they were originally expecting a grand for. :o You have bought a table which was, until last year, regularly used in the Oxford league and will have had high scores made on it by some of the top players in the country. ;)
The black shiney greasemarks should be removable with some cloth cleaning spray which can be sourced from BCE Table Sports, Bristol BS5 9DF.
When transporting, as Sav says it is essential to put it on its side which is the best way to protect the slate. But you will also need to strap it firmly so as it doesn't move around. Also put some of that spongy foam used for packing underneath.
Cheers tommo

Take the cue hooks off one side. Keep you eye out for a Starrett engineers level like this (not Rabone) for setting up

It's good to see that it's gone to a good home and hope you have many enjoyable hours playing on it, I was probably one of the last people to play the table when I had a practice game on it the other week.
They must have been keen to let it go for you to get it for just £500. :o
