Can anyone remember past winners of this contest? I am trying to get the Inter Area history up to date and this is a big gap as there is no perpetual trophy to refer to.
Any ideas?
thanks Tony

Thanks Keith - that's fine. I don't think it's been going very long. Did Steven never win it?
Thanks a lot Tony

Also, Tony says we haven't even got a trophy for this event!! :o Quote; "and this is a big gap as there is no perpetual trophy to refer to."

My mistake, Keith, and my comment retracted. One of our best items down here has White Hare engraved instead of White Hart, and in another League, Black Dog has become Black Doe. ;)

Hi Chris Strangely enough, I had the very same thought after Sunday and guess what name I came up with - The Ray Sturgess Trophy!! Ray brought a lot of young players on over the years (including Mark T) so it would be appropriate but I would need to ask his family and friends of course. Thank you for the very kind offer and I'll contact you directly as someone else mentioned the same thing to me at the last AGM. I think the only reason it has not been done before is that this competition has a somewhat chequered history with it not being worth running in some years due to lack of entries. Also if it gets too many entries then the day will need a total reschedule :o to fit the extra players in. Speak to you in Bournemouth about it perhaps. Tony

If the entry numbers are always low, and this causes difficulties in staging the event would it make sense to increase the age limit for the event to say 25? Just a thought as this way it may see the competition better supported in the future.

Theres an under 25s in july? That's the trouble Lewis. If we make it under 25 it's a bit of a duplication of the All England under 25s at Reading... cheers Tony

Everyone may be keeping it as an under 22's, it is not for me to state otherwise, however it just seems a shame to me if someone is willing to donate a nice cup to this event, if the event is then difficult to stage due to a lack of entries. We all know and appreciate that there is a need to encourage new players in to the game why restrict this to only those under 22 when that leaves only a handful of people who can enter. Obviously something for discussion for those involved in the inter area scene. I never knew Ray Sturgess but everyone seems to talk very highly of him and I think it would be a missed opportunity if a cup were to be named after someone so well regarded if that cup was then difficult to stage on a yearly basis due to a lack of people meeting the criteria as it currently stands. ::)
