so i go and write and say i want to play but so far any of my phone calls and messages seem to have been ignored. :( a very un happy boball [slight moderation to text]Colleen would also have liked to have played, but not included anywhere....... ??? ::) For once, I didn't actually complete the entry form and somebody else booked the hotel for us as well, however it seems strange that somebody who normally plays in every Open and has played in this Competition can be booked in for the hotel for the weekend, but is then not included as a player...... or even as a reserve. :'( I do not know how we were supposed to know that Colleen was not in the draw, as no list of entries was ever put on the Forum, despite this being requested.... Can we have a list of entries put on here? I did manage to speak to Eric about this at the Oxon Open, however that was AFTER the draw had been carried out..... at that time I was told that there were a couple of people who still did not have partners and he would see what could be arranged..... yet I now see that another "new" pairing has subsequently been put in to the draw..... apparently in preference to somebody who should have already been included. :o >:( Have to say that I'm pretty unhappy about the situation and, if it were not for the fact that we have already paid ( FOR BOTH OF US)..... we would not be going. >:( A proper explanation from the organisers would therefore be appreciated....... ::) :P

I know tables & times have been sorted already by Nigel but perhaps something could be arranged so that any pairing that still wanted to participate could play one of the pairings that have a bye into the 2nd Rd of the draw? :P

Bob, only one player from Jersey has got in to partner Harry Barbet, the other 2 are from Bucks, I can see why you are disappointed but hopefully Colleen & yourself will still be allowed to take part in this superb event!! Chris Hi Chris, I know that it is not your fault and appreciate the time you have taken to put the information that you have received on here...... 8-) It does however highlight how important the Forum is in the game today...... ;D and the benefits in putting up a list of entries received before each Tournament. If this had been available, we would have been able to avoid players being missed out before the draw had taken place..... ::) Hopefully something can be sorted out when we all get there...... :-/

To clarify the Colleen situation I was the one who submitted the entry form and it was my error not putting her down as a player as well as booking the rooms, can only openly apologise to her as this was my oversight. Just wanted to show that in this case the organisers were not to blame, but as Dave says there would have been a chance to see the error if a list of players was published as in the case of most opens. sorry to have caused this trouble and hope the situation can be rectified. Some great matches and big scores on nearly all of the tables (big thanks to Dennis Atkins for setting them up so well 8-)) over the weekend..... and a final that ebbed and flowed to keep us all interested. ;D
The Quarter-Final line up was as follows...
Keith Sheard & Mark Trafford v Jon Bamsey & Tony Willis Keith played the table out for 19.5k..... Jon replied with a superb 20k+.
Nigel Senior & Marcus Chipman v Dave Alder & Sam Alder Nigel's 16k+ proved enough....
Phil Collins & Leon Beer beat Geoff Jukes & Dennis Atkins
Steven Sheard & Pete Phillips beat Ian Coleman & Simon Coleman
Semi-Finals
Jon & Tony beat Nigel & Marcus (sorry, don't know what happened as I was scoring the other game. ;))
Steven & Pete beat Phil & Leon Steven & Pete won the toss and elected to go first...... Pete stepped up and knocked in a terrific 15k opener, touching up just about on the bar. Phil broke in game 2, reached 16k+ and came off leaving Steven enough time to make 3k. Steven then ran the table out with 21k+ in the next game meaning that Leon need to hit 23k+ in the last..... unfortunately, he broke down and Steven & Pete went through.
And so to the Final....
Jon and Tony won the toss and put their opponents in first..... and Pete was promptly at it again, touching on 13k in the first, again just short of the bar dropping. Jon broke down on about 4k next game and Steven knocked in 9k plus to take the 2nd game and, with Steven to break next , his pair looked in a very strong position...... only for Steven to break down around the 4k mark and Jon to get the break back straight away and get up to 9k before whipping a ball out of the 100 hole and parking it right against the left hand white peg. :o Jon played a terrific shot off the side and back cushion to save the break and keep his pair in the game, although 2-1 down in games and 14.5k down on aggregate, but with Tony's break to come. Tony unfortunately was off at about 2k and Steven was first to get the break back and touched up with the match won. 8-)
Meanwhile, in the Plate Final...... Darren Izzard (playing with Ray Hussey) opened with a 16k break, leaving Paul Sainsbury enough time to get about 2.5k back, with Bernie McCluskey then touching on just under 20k to give his pairing the win. ;D
Nice to see lots of familiar faces, great company, good food, usual quiz and karaoke in the evenings all added up to a brilliant weekend...... the only downside for us was that Colleen didn't get a game, having been told on Friday evening "no chance of fitting you in"..... she was then told (10 minutes before the start of the competition on Saturday morning! :o) that they could fit in another pair if she could find a partner..... ::) ....on the Friday night we could have sorted something out, 10 minutes before the start - no chance. >:( :-X

Well done Steven & Pete on winning this for the first time, now people will stop saying that “If Steven changed his partner he might win it” as Pete was brilliant in the 4 gamers when he was called upon to do something.
I don’t think players realize how good he can play, as he reached the final of the “Oxfordshire Open” in 1994 losing to Kevin Clark on agg 18,340-15,940 after being over 11,000 up from the 1st leg.
They had a great win in the Semi’s to beat the favourites Phil & Leon.
Unlucky Jon & Tony losing out in the final. I must congratulate Jon on a tremendous break to beat Mark & myself in the quarters......well played. 8-)
Shame we couldn't retain our title but I must congratulate Mark who was also in great form getting me through the early stages when I was struggling a little. I now must learn to go faster!!
As Dave says, the tables were set up superbly by Dennis. The only problem that was mentioned was on table 1 where the “D” was not very good and “odd balls” may have contributed to a few shots going differently than the players expected them to do.
The “Merit award” went to Darren Isard & Ray Hussey for reaching the plate final although I would have chose between either Bella & Kevin Stoner who beat Terry Isard & Ernie Jordan with Bella making a break of 13,000 after being 12,000 down or Pauline Withey & Ian Gordon who knocked out one of the favourites in Paul Sainsbury & Bernie McCluskey.
Great time had again.
Keith
