Keith PS If you look back at the old league tables on this section of the forum you will find that there were no draws, just wins & losses. “C” TEAM SHIELD 24. League positions are decided in this order: number of legs won, number of overall matches won, average points per match over the season.

Thank you for telling me the rules Keith ;D ;D but it is simply a matter of information/presentation and we all have our own styles of doing so. The competition tends to be fairly polarised anyway due to the point per leg format but rest assured that all teams will be aware of their position throughout the season. cheers Tony ,,,and now we've clogged this results thread up...doh! ;)

Reading C 4 - 1 Oxford C
Played at the Our Lady of Peace Social Club
Well all I can say is everyone struggled with the table and the break was a massive advantage as it was near enough impossible to get it back - can't remember more than 1 or 2 occassions all night and I think only 1 /2 scores over 3K
I don't have the scores or their players names but for our team
Sid L (against break) Adam L Ian L Keith W (against break) classic game of alternative rules with all the scores coming down the bottom and a couple of hundred shots along the way Bob L
Return leg I believe is this Friday

Reading C 4  Witney C 1At the OLOP club, Earley, Reading Ron Cox     8600     Andy Barton    180 Janet Burns   2340     Jenny Parsons    0 Colin Brooks  3490     Debbie Barton   4260 Andy Burns   5430     Roy Wain      340 Lee Warner   3620     Enid Wain     1440
Report by Jenny ParsonsOn a very new looking and very green table Ron had an opening break of 3820 and after a lot of toing & froing he got another 4K so claiming the first for Reading. Â The next game was close all the way through but was not helped by the chalker getting confused and maybe causing Janet to lose a break of over a thousand by missing a ball. Â After the chalker had done a lot of number-crunching it left Jenny with the 200 to win and encouraged by the rest of her team she went for it. Â A great shot, straight in the hole but the ball appeared to change it's mind and jumped out of the hole and took the black out! Â A good point lost by Witney! Â Debbie struggled with her opening break, leaving the red up and only getting 600. Her opponent Colin played well and had an initial break of 1500 but with both players having mixed fortunes throughout the game, Debbie prevailed and Witney gained their point. Â In the fourth Andy Burns had a convincing 4K break and towards the end of the game Roy got the measure of the table and was playing well but then missed a ball and lost his break. Â The last game was quite busy - the two players were on & off the table, Enid having peg trouble with the ball coming off the back cushion quite readily on this uphill table. Â Lee eventually took the point for Reading. Â So a 4-1 victory to Reading C and congratulations to them. Â Lets see what happens on the Bletchington table on the 17th September!

Report by Jenny Parsons; The return match: Deb took the first against Janet including a good 3040 break. Roy and Mick spent a lot of the game on & off the table and with the bar gone and the scores equal and one ball on the table, Roy potted a 20 and finally got the 100 to win. The third game was a game of misfortune especially for Lee as he lost more than he kept but it was just enough to take the game from Enid. So the pressure was on Witney to win the next 2 games and Andy Barton played a sterling game starting with a 5110 break and scoring an excellent 7720. Unfortunately Jenny didn't have a chance in the last with Andy Burns going in with a fine 7080 and then a second break of over 3K to finish with a final score of over 11K. A good night though with Reading C winning 6-4 overall.

Congratulations to Wallingford C who have made it to the Final of the Inter Area C-team shield with an 8-2 victory over Oxford Ladies. The final table in GROUP B reads; Group B.............P...W...L..Points.Aggreg...Av/match 1..Wallingford C....3...3...0...25....176060....58,687 2..Wallingford D....3...1...2...15.....88320....29,440 3..Oxford Ladies....3...2...1...14.5...91260....30,420 4..Reading D........3...0...3....5.5...47670....15,890
In the other Group Oxford C are leading the teams by one point with both Oxford and Reading C having finished their games. However both Wycombe C and Witney C have a theoretical chance to take the group if either can take 9 or 10 points respectively in their outstanding fixture. They play each other in the Oct/Nov series of games. Group A.............P...W...L..Points.Aggreg...Av/match 1..Oxford C.........3...3...0...17....109230....36,410 2..Reading C........3...2...1...16....104720....34,907 3..Wycombe C........2...0...2....9.....59180....29,590 4..Witney C.........2...0...2....8.....54680....27,340

Witney C beat Wycombe C 4-1 at Bletchington.
Witney C have a mathematical chance of catching Oxford C on points but Oxford must end up group A winners on the basis of matches won (3/3).
Congratulations to them and we look forward to the C-team Shield Final between Oxford C and Wallingford C. :D
As ever please let the Secretary (i.e. me!) know the dates arranged for this final.

Of course it is on a neutral table (or it was last year) although there is nothing in the rules about the format. I will investigate - I'm new to this you know! ;D ;D I will be in touch with you and Mick Shephard and we will sort a time out but we'll try and get it around the same time as the main final games in November. In the meantime I will try and find a fair venue for both of you and let you know. cheers Tony

Right - I've checked back and it is certainly been played on a neutral table at the end of November'ish for the last 4 years (at least) so we'll go with that. I'll sort a venue out after consulation with the rest of the committee and get in touch with Ian and Mick about availability of teams.
It's a repeat of the 2007 Final by the way.
