Only a couple of weeks left to get your entries in and as places are filling up fast, sooner rather than later would be advisable. (Especially as quite a few of the top guns havent yet entered)!!!

Hi DA
The Sussex Masters takes place at the same venue (Inland Revenue Club in Worthing) on the Saturday, I believe it starts at 12.30pm.
There is a list of the players taking part on the "Sussex County" Section of the Forum, so you would be able to see if there are any people playing that you would know. ;)
If you do come down, it would be nice to say hello and meet the "Legend"......!! 8-) ;D
Hope that helps.
David

hmmmm, have to think what to wear. c x Aaaah............... the seemingly endless problem for a lady.....!! ;) Like you, I think that I will be going there just to watch as I am listed as a reserve for the Masters, but it will give me a chance to catch up with some friends and have a look at the tables before the Open on Sunday. :) Obviously, I will also have to consider my choice of attire for the occasion........ ok, that didn't take long ;D ......... and make sure that my hair looks good......... even less time needed for that!! 8-) ;D ;)

Gook luck to everyone in the Sussex Open, would love to be there but with a bit of luck (and if the builders do some work for a change) I should be moving back into the house that weekend.

Just read the draw. Some real juicy games there. Looks like the Plate will be extra hard to win this year. Good luck to all who are taking part. See all those who know me on Sunday week. :) :) :)

A quick bulletin as nothing forthcoming yet (but I'm sure there will be !)
Congratulations to Oxford's Gary Johnson in winning the 2008 Sussex Open. He beat Sussex perennial performer Iain Lelliot in the Final.
It was maybe fitting that Gary should win it, as he took over the place of the dear departed Ray Sturgess in the draw. In his acceptance speech he said "this was won for Ray".
The competition was full of drama from the start, with Keith Sheard emerging from the Group of death, having beaten (in turn) KT, Nigel and Phil Collins, only to fall at the last 16 stage to Leon Beer. Earlier Phil Collins had recorded a break of 24k - the highest of the day.
Kent were guaranteed a man in the Semi Final when Mark Brewster came up against Curt Driver, but it was Curt who emerged victorious, only to fall to Gary.
In the other half of the draw, Sussex had a passage to the Final booked when Mark James overcame Leon and Iain Lelliot beat Tony Walsh in the quarterfinals. Mark sportingly conceded when Iain had run up an unassailable lead in the second leg of their contest. Gary then made the best of a difficult-looking table in the Final.
The Plate competition was won by Bill Kerr, completing a successful weekend for Bill (who was runner-up in yesterday's Masters Plate competition. In the Final he beat Hampshire's Tony Webster who had earlier overcome Richard Jeffrey (aka Sir Jock'o'the Strap) by the slenderest margin in the Semi-Final. Bill's semi-final win was against Alan Shaw (aka the Yorkshire Terrior on this Forum)
Well done to Jean Brackenridge for her tireless work over both days in running these events. Never was an impending holiday in the Greek islands better deserved ! ;D

Well done Gary, a VERY well deserved and long-awaited Open victory. Seems a VERY long time since the last one, and wasn't that against Ray? Can't find my BBQs at the moment!

Congratulations To Gary for his excellent victory over Ian, both players were deserving finalists and a fitting tribute by Gary to Ray, who was in our thoughts over the weekend. :)
Also, congratulations to Bill Kerr, who flew the flag for Sussex, beating Tony Webster in the Plate. ;)
Many thanks to Jean & Alan who, with Nigel's help on the program and Richard's help setting up the tables, ensured that the weekend ran superbly..... ;D
Venue was excellent, sorry to hear that it will be the last time the event will be held there.... ::)

Well done to all those who took part yesterday and to Jean for the putting it all together bit.
I have one problem though. Has anybody seen my coat? It's a short, sandy coloured raincoat. The really important thing is the bunch of keys in the front left pocket. If any of you have seen it or picked it up by mistake, I really would like the keys.

Well done to Jean & Alan for an excellently (is that a word?) run tournament. :)
A big well done to both winners who had to overcome probably the hardest set of tables i`ve ever seen. :o Commiserations to Ian for his second losing final in a row :(
