The Colemanator's cheesy :D reference is to the National Pairs tournament to be staged soon at the Queens Hotel, Bournemouth - but there's no permanence about the tables: they'll be whisked away immediately afterwards. Sorry Paul, I have actually played on a bar billiards table in Devon, this one, which we chanced upon on the last night of a holiday........... www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/28/28334/Royal_George_Inn/Appledore...........but that was ten years ago, and when we paid a return visit a couple of years later there was a revolving Pool table in its place. We have touched on the subject before when investigating tables in Dorset and Somerset, but concluded there is nothing west of Bristol/Bath/Shepton Mallet - if that !

Sorry Paul, Tommo, you don't have to apologise for me :-/ I have re-vamped the previous message, with slightly better punctuation, so that you don't think I was apologising for you, Ian. ::)

Hi and Welcome Paul; Basically Somerset is not in the All England association of counties, thus we have little or no knowledge of tables in the county. I doubt that either of the principal hire companies have many in the South West, but I would make contact with Bar Billiards Ltd of Ascot at www.bar-billiards.co.uk/. They are the only likely source if info apart from Google. HTH Sav.

I've not found anything in Devon yet but my search for Cornwall has come up with this: Keep in touch Paul, 'cos there is a very good chance that I will be moving down to Cornwall in the near future and I will be looking for venues and players to hopefully start if not a league then at least a group of like minded individuals to have a regular game or two. You'll see I've thinned the list out for you a bit, so now there's only eleven for you to visit. ;) ;D

This is the best advice I've been able to find, Gandalf: I have visited the Wellingborough 4 pin league since honchair moved up there. The 4 pins are over the main pockets, 30 and 10 holes reversed. I am assured by one of their players that the perfect break pushes the red to the 20 or 10 and leave the white so next shot you stun the red into the 200 pocket off that white! You have to play the red if available. Tell you what, after a couple of sessions of practicing 4-Pin, it doesn't half make the 'normal' game seem a doddle ! ;D

I checked out the Journey's End in Ringmore last night and alas there is no longer a table - the landlady told me it went about two years ago. A shame, particularly as it's such a great 13th century inn. :'(

There is a BB table in The Bank in Exmouth next to the Number 9 Sports Bar that I go in regularly when I'm down that way, it's a supreme and is in an unplayable position just inside the door. The Bank 5A St. Andrews Road, Exmouth, EX8 1AP Milko

Had contact from the Swan Inn at Noss Mayo near Plymouth re converting his £1 clock in his bar billiard table to take the new £1. Seems likely the pub has a table, will advise. The Swan Inn, Pillory Hill, Noss Mayo, Plymouth PL8 1EE

But I have seen similar where an electronic timer has been fitted, with a coin slot round the side of the table.

With so many sad tales of pub closures, it was good to find this report of one, originally closed in 2011, saved by the local community and (after refurbishment) recently re-opened under new management:
Kings Arms Inn, Stockland, Honiton, Devon EX14 9BS
Whether the bar billiards has been retained is a matter for future investigation !
