(this was all before i joined obviously !) we were the Langstone Conservative Club from Havant, but were probably not conservative enough........no idea why.... ;D 8-) exotic sausages are these - www.topsausages.com/menu/exotics.htm

I'm feeling hungry having looked at that, shame I'm on a diet :'( You might like to tell him that his on-line shop isn't working :-/ I wonder if his bangers are as good as the butchers in Henfield, I believe he won 'Best british banger' 5 times on the trot.

Thank you for all that info Colleen. Google only threw up a Sausage Tree in Wycombe, Bucks.
But I was only sprucing, I knew it was VPL's pub. That was equally a mystery and subject to much speculation as to what the initials stood for, apparently it's 'Very Polite Landlord'.
Now, where are those bangers left over in the freezer ? :P :P ;D

Now, where are those bangers left over in the freezer ? :P :P ;D Never mind the bangers....... it's the table there that is the best thing since sliced bread! ;D Without doubt, the Riley table at the Woolpack is the best table I have played this year, totally flat and pretty quick with a fast return on the balls from the pockets (which don't whip) meaning that you can really build up some speed when you get going on a break. 8-) We had a quick knock on the table when we arrived there and 1 quick practice game in which Colleen ran in a PB Score of 8.4k against me, with me having very little table time...... well played! :-* In the match, my opponent managed to get herself into trouble early in her break and took a few minutes to score about 600, I got the balls back straight away and made a steady 5k break before touching up around the 50 hole - although I could easily have continued. Next visit I knocked in 5.5k in just under 5 minutes, again touching up to give me opponent some table time. By this time, I would happily have had babies with the table....!! :-* :-* :-* Hoping to be able to play another game down in West Sussex again soon..... lovely pub, very supportive landlord (VPL as Tommo correctly pointed out), great fun with my team mates and fantastic atmosphere in the pub...... even though the juke box was playing, football was on the TV (Liverpool winning 4-0! ;D) and the pool team had a match as well..... but so different to what happened at the Eight Bells the night after. Oh yes..... and the table was lovely...... did I mention that already!? ;D 8-)

Last years Woolie Pink team all had initialed nicknames which we all use as our user names on this site. As for the name, it is the second time that TTO and myself have had a name not associated with the venue we play at. We were once called FSB's, another set of initials that resulted in a lot of guessing the meaning, but was often heard after a bad shot. As our table seems to be getting a lot of praise, I will talk to VPL and BFG and maybe organise the first ever "Sausage Challenge" in the close season.

Can't help wondering, James; shouldn't you rename yourselves The Cumberland Sausages, to cater for the ringers you are attracting from across the county border????

Mr Honchair As I am sure you are aware, the first of our "ringers" played for many years in West Sussex..... and has always sung the praises of your League. 8-) When she found out that the Sausages were having to play 1 short every week, she was more than happy to make the 80 mile round trip every week as we (in Mid-Sussex) had a surplus of players most weeks. ;) We had to "borrow" her back for the last couple of weeks as 2 of our players are away on holiday and, in return, I was very pleased to be asked to play for them in a re-arranged match from earlier this season as one of their regular players was not available to play on Tuesday evening. I thoroughly enjoyed the match and the West Sussex League certainly lived up to everything that she had told me about...... 8-) If invited to play again, I will happily go west across the border (from East to West Sussex ::)) again to help them out as, and when, required. :o I trust that this explains the situation...... ??? Kind regards The Cumberland Sausage Ringer (Number 2) ;D ;D ;D

OK - it's amazing just what some people are prepared to do in order to play the game - support the game, if you'd rather.
It's just a personal view and I like to think that I l know James well enough to offer my opinions on his team; but I can assure you that there are players across WSBBL who reckon that a team should be comprised of players who have, if not a primary loyalty to the league, but (as the Lhampton and some Worthing players do) actively support two adjoining leagues. Cumberland sausages it is. If you, Mr BB Warrior, play two or three games and manage to influence the destination of a trophy or two - what if you should hit the highest home break for example? Then I'm not sure just how that would be received. It's a genuine quandary I admit. ???

I agree, trophies should only be awarded to regular players, not to those who only play a few games as a reserve. Possibly, the criteria for winning trophies should therefore reflect this? As anybody who knows me will tell you, I enjoy the game and will happily play most nights of the week, I currently play every week in the Lewes, Mid-Sussex and Worthing Leagues, so at least one of those are adjacent to West Sussex! ;D Although I also agree that teams should be mainly made up of regular players, however I would ask you to consider this...... is it not better for a team that are struggling to get enough players to be able to ask additional people to play and enable them to fulfill their fixtures, rather than lose a team from the League and let down the opposition......? ::)

Nothing unreasonable there - this is a minority sport after all.
Generally, teams with a shortage - general or short lived - of players will either re-arrange or simply drag a regular from the bar; it's that sort of league. I can't remember over more than 20 years of captaining teams in the league, ever encouraging someone to travel the sort of distances you do simply to bail out a side. True, your other half is a W Sx player; so I'd hope that you would embrace the league in full - you'll find the emphasis upon fun; winning is important, but fun is the key. W Sx has some of the premier players in Sussex (and beyond) so actually winning trophies is not easy, but the way the league is structured does encourage players at all levels to play and improve. So far, we have survived without the need for the cavalry - my point I suppose. 8-)

Yes, I agree with you there entirely..... ;)
West Sussex certainly has some very good players, you only have to look at their results in the last couple of years at the Sussex One Day Interleague competitions to realise that...... and it would be lovely if they were to enter a team into the Main Home & Away Competition at some stage in the future! 8-)
I would also agree that the emphasis is on enjoying the game and the players that I have met so far (both at the Woolpack and the One Day Interleague Team) have proved that in the manner in which they approach the game - regardless of the result. ;D
Although I do travel to play in the Open Tournaments, I would not normally choose an 80 mile round trip to play a League game, however Colleen has thoroughly enjoyed her games and meeting many of her old friends, so since the game I played in last week was on a night that I didn't have a match, I would have gone along to support her anyway - even if I hadn't played myself.
That is how much I enjoy playing and being involved with our great (if minority) sport....!! ;)
I know that there are a few matches left in West Sussex that will take place on evenings that I don't have a game elsewhere, so I will happily take my cue along and play again - if needed. 8-)

I guess we should be aware that the sausages were in fact the cons club until such time as they declared they declared they were unable to complete their fixtures, so I guess warrior is kind of the second line of cavalry!!
One of the nice things about warrior playing in west Sussex is that he totally gets it. Unfortunately he is quite good at the game! So when he touches up and gives the other player a chance and they don't take it........
He has also played quite a few friendlies at the woolie and has been a keen supporter of west Sussex players at county tournaments this season. ( thanks the last 3k was yours!! ;D) I would not expect many people to know this as only the pinks the sausages and the Winnie B were involved. (spot the link! surprise?)
I would certainly see honchairs point of view which is based in the culture and traditions of the league. To suddenly change a 3rd div team into a team that would would rank amongst the top 1st div teams could be misunderstood!!!
But I don't see it happened that way.......Besides which they have no chance of catching the Winterton B and i am sure that Warrior would not allow a highest break to be recorded!! ;)

May I just throw in my two penneth
I don't think one or even two players would transform a team into one of the top 1st Div teams, maybe an average 1st Div team. And, as far as high breaks go, let them stand, the challenge would be enjoyable. Just don't do it on the last week of the league ;D ;D
As I said at the last committee meeting and got into trouble for, teams should endeavour to play their games on the designated date or very soon afterwards and if that means bringing in ringers (ringers, did I really say that) then thats ok.
It looks like the mixed doubles at the knockout weekend could be a very interesting, international/inter county affair (no I didn't mean affair, I meant competition) See you in the final Dave and Colleen 8-) 8-) 8-)

:( :'( oh bother. looks like a withdrawing from the mixed pairs coming up - we can't play on the sunday as we've entered the Surrey open. sorry alan xx
::) guess it also stands for any other that carries through to the sunday - i would be unable to attend so will have to withdraw from any that will.
you will just have to play Steve & Jacqui in the final !(provided they get through of course - and they aren't tired after travelling down from wherever it is they live now - wellingborough/burton latimer). :-X :-X :-X
Anyway, it looks like Kay is having so much fun with the new pink cue that I wouldn't bet against Kay & Tim in the final...... :P ;D ;D
on a final note..... I'm only helping out until the end of the season and made a deal with the warrior that because i had to be recalled for two games we would need him in return to make a full team on a couple of occasions so any worries from Honchair are unfounded. >:(
I'm pretty sure tho Mr Shaw that should you like a 'friendly' against the Warrior on the riley (best of 3 etc) he would happily do so !!! and we can arrange it if you like...... ;D ;D

We'll only be a threat if someone puts another peg on the table! One with three pegs looks awfully bare you know; although Jacqui did beat Kay last weekend by all accounts; so you never know.

Three pegs always prove to be more than enough for me........ thank goodness they don't do pink pegs though!! ;D ;D ;D
Have heard some great stories about the West Sussex Weekend and looking forward to meeting some (new & old) friends there...... hopefully we won't need to withdraw although, as Colleen pointed out, we are playing in the Surrey Open on the Sunday. ::)
But..... where is TTO......? ??? :o
Surely, she should be counting down the sleeps by now!! :o 8-) ;D
