No worries Tommo. Thought you might be chomping at the bit since it is on narrow tables. I am a bit confused about these transfer fees. Are you really only offering me a few quid to take these people off your hands? ;) Is there a list of players who you have already signed Gandalf? I would like to offer the place to people who support the 4 pin open first, and only resort to 'dragging someone out' if no regular 4-pinner wants to play. There are some Kent and Oxford players who I wouldn't associate with Hastings/Eastbourne but if you have signed Sav then you may have signed others too. Hi Mal We have invited Sav as we could arrange to pick him up on the way through and we would obviously prefer to keep him in our team but i'm sure we have a spare player somewhere if you need one, theres plenty of time though for you to find a 4th from your part of the world Hastings team Phil, Bob, Colin & Sav Eastbourne team Chris, Peter, Mick and Gareth Reserve Dave White

End of Handicap report by Andy Ellison
Old King John drew deeply into their years of experience to pull off the needed 5-0 victory to win the title in the Handicap competition of the Hastings Bar Billiards League, frustrating the hopes of Jenny Lind A. The victory was achieved on the visit of Ashburnham Arms E, who could not match their high scoring of the previous week. Mark Bailey won the first game for OKJ and Andy Ellison followed up with 7060 to take the second. Skipper Andy Eldridge returned to form with a win in the closest clash of the night and Garry Tomlin battled through for the next. Chris Lamb stepped up at short notice for the final game but was able to absorb the pressure to record the win that secured their only 5-0 scoreline of the season and second title for OKJ.
Nags Head B edged out their A side colleagues with a 4-1 win to claim third spot. Fred Pope put Nags B into an early lead with a win that confirmed his position at the top of the wins table. Teammates Peter Crabtree and Stewart Chant provided backup wins whilst Nags B skipper Colin Southouse met Nags A's Clive Minihane in two games; they took a game each to leave Nags B as 4-1 winners over the A side.
Ashburnham Arms A recorded a 4-1 win in their clash with Jenny Lind B. Ron Young, Mick Osborne, Dave Pearce and Sandy Harmer were the winners for the home side but Andy Horsler put in a winning performance in the last game for Jenny B to leave the result at 4-1 to Ash A.
Next week sees the final of the Rix Cup where Jenny A will have another chance of a trophy as they take on Ash A at the Nags Head.

week 13 report from Andy Ellison
Jenny Lind A confirmed their status as favourites to win the Handicap Competition in the Hastings Bar Billiards League with a comprehensive 4-1 home victory over closest rivals Old King John this week. Jenny A fell behind initially as Andy Ellison won the first for OKJ but that was the only success of the night for the visitors. Billy Skinner, Ray Norton, Nick Speight and Andrew Lipscombe turned in consistent performances and were well worth their wins. Old King John are left ten points behind Jenny A with one match to play. A 5-0 win will be necessary to finish above their rivals who have completed their fixtures.
Nags Head A forfeited their interest in the outcome after a 4-1 loss at Ashburnham E. Clive Minihane was the sole winner for Nags A as the Ash E regulars notched impressive totals. Skipper Chris Haynes led the way with 9620, Gareth Dell managed two good wins and Mick Reilly hit 6410 to provide the 4-1 success for Ash E and leave Nags A in third spot.
Nags Head B were similarly frustrated following a 4-1 home loss to Ashburnham Arms A. In-form Fred Pope put Nags B ahead but Ron Young, Mick Osborne, Sandy Harmer and Dave Pearce settled into a pattern of steady scoring to record an impressive away win for Ash A. Whatever the final outcome the handicap-based format has proved a great success and other leagues in Sussex are reputedly showing interest in the system.

Everybody will get three single and three doubles games. This is just an experimental tournament this year, thus only 8 teams, if this goes well next year we will look at using more than four tables, this will mean a larger venue and a much longer day so we have tried to keep this year simple to see how things go Sounds good dave

For those lovers of soft rock who are over in Guernsey next weekend, The Doghouse just down the road from Rocquettes has a superb tribute band playing on Friday and Saturday evening. Fleetwood Bac, the top UK Fleetwood Mac tribute act. I have not seen them for a few years, but if it is still the same line up, they are well worth a listen to. Free admission, but get there early if you want a seat. Well once I'm out of the plate that's where I'll be

Rules of Play
1. In all matches, a coin shall be tossed to determine the order of play. The away player to call. (Deleted) 2. 4 Mushrooms (not pegs) should be placed in front of the 4 high scoring holes. There must be 7 White balls and 1 red ball in the tray after the timer jack is pulled. To start the game, place the red ball on the spot above the 'D' and play a white ball from the centre of the 'D'. This is called the break shot. The centre of the 'D' should be marked with a spot. Thereafter, with the exception of further break shots, and the last ball, either coloured ball may be played from any position within the confines of the 'D'. All strokes throughout the game must be played from the 'D'. 3. The player must not play the cue ball directly into a hole. The cue ball must first strike another ball to become a scoring shot. 4. When the red ball is sunk, the score of that ball is doubled. When 2 balls are sunk from the break shot position on 3 consecutive occasions into any pockets the scorer will call “One Up” if both balls then fall in any holes a foul is called and that break score is lost. 5. When all balls are in play, and none left in the tray, the ball nearest to the baulk line is returned and played from the 'D' to continue the game. If two or more balls are equidistant from the baulk line the ball nearest to the centre should be returned to continue play as it is "nearest to the D". 6. When no balls are left in play, the red and white balls are positioned as for the start of the game. 7. When a ball returns to cut the baulk line ( not the edge of the baize), that ball is removed to the tray. 8. If a mushroom is knocked over by a ball and cannot be replaced because of obstruction by a ball, that ball shall be removed to the tray. The peg must be replaced to its correct position immediately. 9. If a mushroom is knocked from its correct position without falling over, if possible it shall be immediately replaced on its spot, if a ball is obstructing the spot the mushroom will remain in its position until such time as that ball is moved from the spot then be mushroom should be immediately replaced correctly. If a break ends the mushroom will be respotted and the ball returned to the tray. 10. If a ball and peg are wedged in a hole together, the peg is to be removed first and the ball allowed to drop down the hole and not returned to the tray even after the gate has dropped. 11. Each player continues until a non-scoring shot is played. 12. Once a player leaves the table their break is deemed over, should a ball fall down a hole after they have left the table this will not count towards their break or their opponents break unless their opponent has first struck the cue ball whether or not it strikes another ball. 13. Scores shall have the same value before and after the gate has dropped. The red ball will continue to score double. 14. The last ball on the table shall be played from the centre of the 'D', into either 50,100 or 200 holes only off one side cushion only. If the last ball is correctly played, but not holed, the player keeps the score of that break. Foul Shots 1. The player looses his/her entire score if :- a. The last ball is holed without striking the side cushion. b. The player causes the peg covering the 200 hole to be knocked over. 2. The player loses the score of that break if :- 1. The cue ball fails to strike another ball. 2. Any ball returns to cut the baulk line (not the edge of the baize). (The 'D' counts as baulk). 3. The same break shot is played more than three times in succession. 4. The player causes any peg, other than that covering the '200' hole, to be knocked over. 5. The player fails to keep 1 ball up when instructed by the scorer 6. Any ball leaves the table, or strikes the backboard, even if that ball returns to the normal play area. 7. Any ball is played other than from the 'D'. 8. The player causes any ball to move other than a shot played correctly from the 'D'. 9. If a break shot or final ball is not played from the centre of the 'D'. 3. If a combination of foul shots occur, then, regardless of sequence of events, the player shall suffer the greater penalty.
Table Rules
The table shall be set out as follows:
• Mushrooms shall be placed (the baulk line side) to cover the 200 hole, the 100 hole, and the two 50 holes and shall be set 6mm from the edge of the hole + or – 1mm • The spot for the red ball for the break shall be exactly halfway between the rim of the 200 hole closest to the baulk line, and the back edge of the “D” +/- 20mm (this allows for tables with older cushions which may have uneven bounces) • The number of balls shall be seven white and one red. • Tables must be maintained in good condition, and spare cues and chalk must always be provided . The lower scoring holes should be marked with the 30 and 10 holes reversed in relation to the current AEBBA 3 pin rules
