Result from Roffey CC earlier this PM: Ricky and Dick Dewdney 2, Dick Cable and Steve Hopkins 0. 1st game: Dick C's break, good reply from Ricky, Steve unlucky to peg a 2K+ break. 2nd game: good solid start from Ricky, fairly close thereafter, win by 800 or so.
Pleasant sociable evening at the CC, nice and warm as usual, well played Ricky and Dick.

Here's what happened at Roffey CC earlier this PM: not involved in anything, went along to knock up
ready for Sunday / make myself useful with scores etc. As it was, several supporters came along too (Lee, Dick and Ricky) with Micky keeping an eye on what was happening. Three good games, in the end
a win for Dave and Keith 2-1. Good breaks from Keith, Bill and Dave helped to win each leg, with plenty
of encouragement and banter from the supporters and good shot appreciation from the neutral scorer. Well done Dave and Keith, we stayed for a while to talk about BB (what else) all in all a nice evening.

Had a (free) read of West Sussex County Times in the library this morning, only one
thing worth reading in the sport section: a well-written report on a good weekend's
BB at Ockley. Nice to see some of our names in lights, inc photo of Sunday winners.

Sorry to hear this unhappy news, John and I were team-mates for many years at several Horsham venues / Haywards Heath SC / Mid Sussex I/L
with plenty of car-sharing so that one of us could have a drink. Always modest in victory, graceful in (rare) defeat and willing to share useful advice, will be sadly missed. RIP John, condolences to family.

Here's what happened at RCC earlier in the seniors semi:
Paul 2, Colin 1.
Games 1 and 2: both went with the break. Game 3: I won the toss, started first and built a 4K lead. Break back for Colin, nearly chased me down before the bar went, 500 in it. Thanks Graham for coming along early, ensuring all was ready and scoring the games for us.

From the late 1980's (oppos in Horsham league, Cherry Tree and Crawley Club) till March 2023 (team-mates in Billingshurst league, Windmill Gossops Green), Steve and I had 35 years of competition and/or co-operation including several years together at Haywards
Heath SC (Mid Sussex league) and Mid Sussex interleague team. Always modest in victory, gracious in (rare) defeat, we always got
along well together. Steve was an excellent team-mate and a good friend, condolences to his family, RIP.

Here's what happened at the Windmill earlier this PM.
Senior singles semi: Jim 2, Mick 0.
Good play from Jim, including a 17,520 table playout and coming back from behind with a 9K+ break.
Open singles semi: Paul 2, Mick 0.
Game 1: Mick chased my 5.5K lead, broke down 200 short: I gratefully potted the last few balls. Game 2: my turn to play catch up, overcame a 2K+ deficit with a nice 4K near the end.
Windmill karma quite good, sport not too loud, thank you Clive for coming in early, preparing the
table and doing the scoring for the second match.

Here's what happened in the quarter finals doubles games played at RSSC yesterday PM.
Dave V. & Brian 0, Ros & Paul 2.
Yours truly first up, missed the split and miscued recovery attempt. Pretty close for a while,
then a well-timed 2540 break from Ros meant a win by 1K or so. Second game: my turn to
get a grip, Brian unlucky to peg a 2K+ break, good steady play thereafter saw us over the line.
Steve V. & Mark 0, Dick and Ricky D. 2. First game: fairly close for a while, couple of nice breaks from Dick saw the father and son team home.
Second game: Ricky opened up with a 9280 break, everybody else had a few goes (all good practice). Pairs from Plough and RCC thus through to semis.
Club warm and comfortable as usual, screen by BB table not turned on (phew), Mark was the star of our
show in the raffle. Catering: a raffle prize box of wine gums was passed around, lucky us.

Roffey CC 3, Plough 2.
Colin 9420, Dick 0. Ros 2450, Dave 4360. Paul 5250, Mark 2680. Mick 1890, Brian 3130. Mike 10250, Ricky 1200.
Well, we got the 26,000 plus OK and won the match: unfortunately the 5-0 result
proved beyond us. Well played Plough, thanks everyone for completing the games:
all good practice for comps still to come, other leagues etc. Nice sociable evening,
buffet went down well as usual: team cup finalists are thus Windmill and Plough.

Postponed game (home to Plough) is due to be played on Sunday 26th March,
7-30 for 7-45 pm. A daunting target, we'll give it our best effort. At least there
will be the usual no-expense-spared catering to look forward to....

Yes, RCC members had an email on Monday. Due to the quiet time of year, club core opening hours (Monday to Thursday) will be 17-00 to 20-00 unless there are scheduled events or sufficient attendance to stay open for. For comps games, best to give the club a call (01403 260775) before 8pm to let the bar person know you are coming and check that all is well.
