Hi Killing time in Somerset while attending a wedding. Sad to report that the Rudloe Arms while listed on the map has had no table for at least 3 years. It does have several mummified christ sculptures. Off the map it comes.

Hello to Bar Billiards Players of Northants. After putting to the group the possibility of a match against another county, the enthusiastic response leads me to post here. Looking at the list of venues you have it seems that the Cock Hotel would be best for us to get to, and also provides us with the opportunity of playing a 'B' team. We would like to come from Nottingham to the Cock Hotel at some point within the next 6 weeks to play our first ever inter county match, looking at the scores posted for your 'B' team we think we should be able to challenge. We are looking at it as a learning experience as we have never met a player who was not entirely self taught. Our (provisional) team is:
Ben Crowe Stephen Smith Max Bollu Amy Aplin Daniel Overton
And obviously we would be more than happy to host a return leg
Any questions or ideas on dates on this thread please.
Yours in Anticipation Stephen Smith

Hi Pete, I couln't find the county championships on the calendar, is it the div2 county opens to be held November 16th to which you refer. I think some lower league low division 'B'team action would be all we could handle at the mo, looking at the score tables these breaks are intimidating! Stephen

And Greetings from me Stephen Smith
I am The Chairman of the All Nottingham Bar Billiards Association.
As we approach our first anniversary I thought it prudent to finally get on these boards especially as one of the stated aims of the A.N.B.B.A is 'To form a 5 person team capable of playing at a competitive level to represent Nottingham on the national bar billiards circuit'
We have chose to put the 'All' in All Nottingham Bar Billiards Association as there are many different organisations with the acronym N.B.B.A and only a few italian B&B's with A.N.B.B.A, also after much effort we could find no Nottingham group to join, so we formed our own.
We practice at the Newshouse Inn in Nottingham on a Monday Night and would welcome any visit from any passing billiards enthusiasts, at the moment our scores are low, for example a break of over 1000 is a cause for celebration, but things have improved greatly in the last year. After much research it turns out there are only 2 working bar billiards tables in the whole of Nottinghamshire(to the very best of our knowledge) but i have seen that there is some history to the sport in the county, we would be interested to see any old score sheets or records of old Nottingham pub teams and associations. We have records and full score sheets of our own group, but at the moment no logo or website, the group do not feel ready to compete as yet, these things will come in time, but for now hello, and were glad to be here.
Kind Regards Stephen Smith

Hello From Nottingham!
There is a small but dedicated team of Bar Billiards enthustiasts in Nottingham, We practice at the Newshouse Inn, which is a fine pub with a working table in good order.
We meet to practice on a Monday night. Now that the association has been growing and the standard is going up, we have started to look for matches.
With this in mind I have personally visited (on my push bike) almost all of the pubs listed as having a bar billiards table on this thread, the results are as follows, and i'm sorry but its not good news.
Rum Runner - Didn't go there as Retford is practically Doncaster (hence the postcode) However a phone call revealed that they have a table in working order with occasional players but no team as such. The landlord John was very enthusiastic and explained the table was refurbished about a year ago.An exploratory visit and hopefully a match are in the offing.
The News house - good table, friendly staff, great beers and a thriving bar billiards community. all welcome on a Monday night.if anyone reading this wishes to drop by please do, you will be more than welcome.
The Vat and Fiddle - This is the castle rock brewery pub and they do have a table, it is continually missing parts, balls, batteries, bits of mechanism etc, we have been down once a quarter to assess the situation as it is our best hope of having a match up and it has not worked in the last 18 months.
The Grove - Shut down many years ago.
The Plough - The Nottingham brewery pub, has not had a table for at least 6 years, excellent beer, the Nottingham extra pale ale is the best i have ever had.
The White Lion Bramcote - a Greene king pub of excellence, very nice surroundings and beer, has not had a bar billiards table for over 9 years .
The Steamboat Inn - Beautiful setting on the Erewash canal, got rid of their bar billiards table over 5 years ago and now have a pool table, you can still see the screw holes where the score slider used to be, uncomfortably cold pint of tasteless beer.
The White Lion Long Eaton - does have a table as stated and photographed, plasticy mushrooms, broken mechanism (clockwork) and someone stole the red ball, it is used as a beer rest and consequently the felt is stained and sticky, management will probably never sort this out as they don't really care, no-one plays as ...one cannot have a proper game .
So there you have it , 4 tables in the whole of Nottinghamshire and only two that actually work.. a sad state of affairs.
Its worth mentioning that word has got around to the owner of The Lion at Basford who is considering installing a table after one of our members (Amy Aplin) had a chat, the Lion is a great pub and im sure that things would gather momentum quickly if one was installed.
Ill keep my ear to the ground for any tables that are currently off the radar and keep you all up to date.
I hope this information is of use to any visiting Bar Billiards Enthusiasts and will find its way on to the map.
Many Thanks
Stephen Smith
