Martin Russell beat Neale Chamberlain 3-2 last night at the Imperial in an absolutely cracking game to reach his first Open Singles Final.
Neale put Martin in to bat and he touched up at 11 to take the first. Neale took the 2nd to level things up and could have had Martin in trouble in the 3rd when Martin faltered early on. Neale also broke down early and Martin played the table out. Neale took the fourth comfortably to take us to an equal time decider.
Martin set Neale a stiff 13,830 target in a shade over 15 minutes. Neale started fluently but, maybe trying to play a bit quicker than he needed to, got into trouble and broke down at the 7k mark.
Martin goes through to the final where he will face the winner of Bryan Stevens and Ian Wright who play at the Imp next Wednesday. If that game is as good as last night's, then it will be well worth seeing.
Scores (Martin first)
11,450 v 600 6,360 v 9,780 13,040 v 2,020 150 v 12,840 13,830 v 7,140 (equal time)

Add me to the list of those that felt the Latvian pirates should have won.
Couldn't believe that they were 50/1 so lumped it each way. Had a side bet on the night with a mate who had bet on Bosnia and even managed to lose that. Should have remembered that the whole thing is as bent as a fiddler's elbow.
Thank god I didn't bump into a one-legged bloke on the way home. ;D

I heard this afternoon the news that we'd all been dreading. My thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Ray's family and friends at this very difficult time. The bar billiards community is a much poorer place this evening. Sleep well fella. Vinny

Imperial B 3 White Hart A 2
Skippy was the undoubted man of the match in this one, thrashing both Martins and racking up over 15,000 in the process. We insisted on a drug's test which of course can back positive.
Bizarre moment of the evening came when Dennis, winning comfortably, jumped out of his skin when the bar went resulting in a Jack Douglas-type shot that took out both white peg and scorer's eye:
Skippy 8,280 Martin L 1,460 Dennis 930 Dizzy 2,490 Doug 400 Vinny 8,220 Ian 6,140 Vinny 3,980 Skippy 6,880 Martin R 4,300

Hi Sav,
Apologies for the late reply but if the Altzhiemers is as bad as has been reported ("It's the wrong petrol Grommit) it won't matter.
All the best from all in Tun Wells league.
Kind regards,
Vinny and the rest of the pisstanks.
