I wasn't going to enter again this year, due to this tournament always finishing late, but as there are only 3 entries, so far :o, it may make me think again about my decision!!
Even if I don't play, I'm sure Pauline will have no problem finding a partner, so that makes 4 pairs. ::)

I`m a bit puzzled that nobody seems to be bothered about the number of entries ???
How can we expect the P.O. Club to open up the function room for 16 people ???
I certainly don`t want to travel that far for a poor competition. Where are all the players that entered last year and the year before that. Chris & Chrissie are away, but what about the rest ???
With a small number like this, it means that if you`re not playing, you will be scoring. No fun in that i`m afraid :(
This certainly needs to be looked at at the AGM and probably paired up with another competition, possibly the Under 25`s ?
Doesn`t anyone else think it should be postponed until there is a better response ?

Probably too late to do much about it this year, but I agree with your recommendation that it be combined with the U25's next year. Also, the County Div 2 seems to be considerably later than usual this year, we are used to this being staged in September. So maybe for 2012 the two slots could be changed around - Mixed and U25s in November, and County Div 2 in August (as a curtain raiser to Div 1). :-/ |

Due to the lack of interest in the mixed pairs we have decided to move it to a later date in the year
SUNDAY 21st AUGUST HAS BEEN CANCELED
Only 9 pairs showed any interest in this competition, It is not ecconomical for any party involved in stageing competitions and therefore we are left with no alternative except to cancel this weekend.
It is without doubt a sad and sorry event of affairs when things like this is done.
It is with regret that I have to do this.
PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND THE POST OFFICE CLUB THIS WEEKEND

I was told that there were only about 20 players combined for the U25's, Ov50's & Ov60's last month, so if you take the U25's off this date, then you will have the same problem again!!
As these competitions are not very well supported I think the only thing to do is put all four of them on the same day, but if you did that I suppose you wouldn't be able to play the Mixed Pairs in Groups (round-robin) because of the time factor.

PS I think you should have left the Mixed Pairs ON for this W/E, as it's not fair to cancel a tournament at such a late stage!!

Sorry Keith, don`t agree with leaving it on. The club would have lost money having to employ someone to run the bar, plus all the electric that is used when running a one day competition. The steward was brought into the discussion and I think you`ll find he wasn`t that keen with so few people.
You need to look at the broader picture, not just the Bar Billiards ;)
