This is the finalised England team to play against Jersey and Guernsey this year. The venue will again be the Ardington Hotel in Worthing on February 4th. Any players or spectators wishing to stay the night, can book direct to the hotel, quote Bar Billiards when you do so. As usual, the match v Jersey is 11 a side. The Guernsey match (9 a side) next year will be Away and on the same weekend as the Guernsey Open, so book early to get the cheap flights.

Hi Mark, the venue is the Ardington Hotel again in Worthing. The match will start at 8pm so i would like all the players to be there by 7pm if they are not staying at the venue.

If anyone would like to come along to watch the England v Jersey International this Saturday at the Ardington Hotel, Worthing, then they would be extremely welcome. There's no Ladies :( or friendly match :) this year, so there should be plenty of room to watch the current best players from the mainland & Jersey competing at the highest level under the pressure that Internationals bring with it.
We would like to welcome our friends from Jersey in what I'm sure will be a keenly and hotly contested affair that is played in the right spirit of the game.
Keith
PS As we still don't have "Pairs" against Jersey ???, my forecast is 22-11 to England :P

Is there a pub BB table close to the venue, as we will be down around lunchtime and would like a game or two ?

Tell you what, Keith, I've put the Ardington Hotel up on the AEBBA Map as a 'Gold Peg' (= special venue). You can click on the peg and keep expanding the picture until street view appears, then run the little man back down Marine Parade. But the Cask Club and Marine View are quite a way down there - it's a bit of a walk.

Don't forget I'm a milkman and used to doing a lot of walking, anyway they look fairly close to the Ardington to me and should be a nice walk along the seafront in the nice warm sunshine! ::)

You will have a chuckle ;) The New Sussex Hotel is on the seafront in Lancing on the A259 heading towards Brighton and is only a 5 minute drive from Worthing town centre.... the table there is probably better than any of the other venues mentioned and is usually available to play on at weekend lunchtimes, I am not sure if either the Cellar Bar or Marine View are open lunchtimes. ???

That's another option, then, Dave, I remember passing that pub two years ago and thought to myself what a lovely position it was in with the sea across the road. 8-) It's where KT plays, isn't it ? and can't for the life of me remember what it used to be called ?

Yes, it's KT's home table in Worthing and we are playing our home matches there in Brighton League at the moment as we sadly lost our own venue.... :'( Playing there tonight and as it is just down the round from where I live it is very handy.... ;D Will warn them that they may have a rowdy bunch from Oxford coming in at the weekend and to keep an eye on the John Smiths drinker..... :-* ;D ;D

Keith, the Swan is the closest pub with a table, five minute walk, and in my opinion the best pub, with real ales, friendly, a good old traditional pub. Its in Little High Street.

I would advise not going to the New Sussex Hotel. I heard that the table had been moved so called in today. From what i could gather, it played very difficult last night. Made some minor adjustments ready for another league match tonight. There are also functions on this weekend (hence why it has been moved), so the Swan might be a better option Keith ;)

Thanks Kevin & Roger for your advice and opinion.
It looks like it will have to be The Swan or Ye Olde House At Home but I've read some reports that the later is not very good!! ;)

It looks like it will have to be The Swan or Ye Olde House At Home but I've read some reports that the later is not very good!! ;) You would have more room and a good selection of ales at the Swan, whereas you may find a few "enthusiastic" pool players getting in your way at Ye Olde House At Home.... the Swan is a 5 minute walk from the town centre whereas Ye Olde House is probably a 5 minute drive. ;) I will resist the temptation to comment on the tables.... :o :-X :-X ;D

Just come back from helping to get the table into the venue.... it looks as if Jersey have bought a good team over with them and there is an interesting line up of matches so should be a good evening. 8-)

Yet again KT puts on a very well organised day. I managed to reach the hotel around 2.30pm and KT was there with Dave Ingram to help unload the truck and set up the tables ready for a 7.45pm start. Also managed to park the truck close to the hotel, Thanks to the half day parking permit. KT and Dave had the tables set up and ready to play by 4pm so all I needed to do was read my book and while away the hours. The match itself was played under a fantastic banter-full and friendly atmosphere with both sides enjoying the event. After the speaches and presentation of the trophies the venue was cleared in double quick time with KT and Ian Gordon lending the muscle to load the truck for a quick departure by yours truely. Whilst I left Worthing in the pouring rain it wasn't long before I began driving through the snow. I managed to reach the A23 before hitting a long queue of traffic struggling to drive up a snow laden hill. With the help of a snowplough, gritting lorry plus a number of police 4x4s I was able to reach the brow of the hill in only 3 hours, with speeds of only 25-40 mph I reached home at 5.40am. But you know what, I would do it all again just for the thrill of watching all those boy racers with no idea how to drive in the snow. Very comical indeed.

The dreaded Handcross Hill, eh ! Used to be notorious for lorries reaching the top and sliding back down again. In the last few months they've spent several millions widening the A23 and straightening out the more vicious of the bends on that stretch, so to be back by 5.40am was good going !

That sounds as if it was probably Handcross Hill on the A23, which is always "fun" whenever we get any snow down here in Sussex. Glad to hear that you got home safely Dave and a huge thank you for bringing the tables down when the forecast was obviously not favourable for the weekend.... ::) Hope you managed to dig your car out from the Post Office Club when you got back.... :o ;D

Theve done a poor job if they have widened it as so far i see trees down and it will be years before it is the way they want it. but defiantly no surprise with Handcross hill being the pain as people just struggle with the snow
