The one day interleague competitions are nearly upon us and will take place at the Roffey Club, Horsham.
The dates are as follows
23rd Feb – Brighton B, Brighton C, Redhill B, Worthing B, Worthing C 24th Feb – Div 2 – Mid Sussex, Billingshurst, Tunbridge Wells, West Sussex ;D, Lewes, Eastbourne 1st Mar – Ladies - Brighton, Mid Sussex, Worthing A, Worthing B, Redhill 2nd Mar – Div 1 - Littlehampton, Brighton, Worthing, Redhill, Horsham
teams in yellow have confirmed
Although secretaries have entered teams on their registration forms I would like to confirm the teams that will be entered as situations may have changed from 4 months ago.
Please can league secretaries (or anyone in the know from that league) confirm over the next 2 or 3 weeks of the teams that that league want to enter (ie confirm they are entering an A side plus any B sides). I will be endeavouring to contact secretaries, but a response on this thread does save me some chasing up!
For ladies sides please confirm with Jean B and let her know as she is doing the organising for that event, but if you post on this thread I will make sure that she knows.

Do we know if the affiliation fees have been received from everyone. (Perhaps Richard could let us know).
Could be Lewes are not in white or yellow coz they havent paid but more likely Lewes has just been missed off Div 2 teams

I didn't spot I missed Lewes off the first post. Affiliation forms and fees I think were received from everybody. But I do want confirmation from Marc (as with other captains) that they do intend to bring a team.

There is a clash of competitions for the Div2 One Day Teams (except West Sussex) with the Home & Away I/L.
So could those teams please let Nige or me (Div2 Co-Ordinator) know that you have rearranged your H&A games and will be attending. Dave Jones is aware.
Mid Sussex, Billingshurst, Tunbridge Wells, Lewes, Eastbourne
Yellow = Aware and rearranging

Spoke to Nick Brown about Worthing B last evening and he is seeing his team over the weekend and will find how many available, will talk to Dave Anscombe to do same with Worthing D and am confident we will be sending two teams between Worting B/C/D. Therefore subject to confirmation Worthing should have a Band C side in the B competition.

Littlehampton will be entering a team. I haven't heard of any withdrawals caused by big business hijacking another religious festival (Mothering Sunday, that is). It really is sad that 364 days of love and affection can be somehow forgotten or belittled if we do not succumb to the commercial exploitation of this one day.

Exactly my point. Even 4 year olds are being indoctrinated and exploited.

I think on reflection that I would like to withdraw that last remark. There is a danger that such a remark could be taken personally, and that was far from my intention. I would prefer to respect other people's views and feelings.

Without going into the rights and wrongs, Richard - it's my understanding that the One-Day Interleagues are this year being held quite locally for you (at Roffey Social and Sports Club).
I have a slight problem too - I see my mum once a week and want to look in on her on either the Saturday or the Sunday, but margo and I are involved on both days.
But as she lives in Horsham and the tournaments are at Roffey, we'll be able to look in on her either beforehand or afterwards.
It will be a shame if you and Lloydy miss out on a tournament held virtually on your own doorstep.

Sorry agree with dave on this. The interleague is usually held on these two weekends.
Mothers day is usually held a lot later in March.
Its not a religious festival and not all circumstances can be accounted for. Its just an exploitation. Great excuse for florists to treble their prices on dafs. Go into a card shop and see the cards for aunties on mothers day and grandmothers on mothers day.
Mums should be thought about every day not just one day of the year.
Having said that its great that you want to celebrate it but its certainly not the same for everyone and a lot of people will visit parents sometime over the weekend be it the friday saturday or sunday. I know that at sometime (probably the Friday i will put flowers on my mum & dads stone).
Saying you cant believe its being played on this day at this late stage is wrong. If it means that much why wasnt it mentioned when the dates were first publicised before venues, table hire etc was sorted.
Can you imagine what would happen if counties tried to take everything into account of religious holidays for other religions etc Dont think any competitions would ever take place.
Sorry but i had to say what i think but a few weeks before the competitions is far too late to cancel if its such an important date surely people would have queried this much sooner.
Im also sorry you and Gareth wont be able to make it. Nige as it now looks as if your captain of btn a i will be quite happy to come along on that day to help with the admin desk.

Jean I am not asking for it to be canceled I hope you all have a great tournament, I have never asked for it to be changed. Obviously people have different priorities and my family is more important than a game of Bar Billiards.
Mothers Day can be a bit commercial but only if you let it , there is no reason why you have to buy a mothers day card , Harrison is looking forward to making one, granted I am a bit old to make one :).
I was merely stating its not a great day to play the tournament on in my opinion.
I am not sure what you are getting at with your comments on helping Nige on the desk on that day ?? I was not under the impression I was doing that ??
Nigel is not now Captain this has been handed to Chris Reeves
Hope you have a great Tournament

Richard Just to clarify a couple of points.
Your comment - I really cant believe the tournament is to be played on mothers day - As Sussex chairperson i just wanted to defend the committe for holding it this day the 1st Sunday in March which is when its normally held. Mothers day unfortunately changes every year.
The reason i offerd to help Nige on the admin desk wasnt because you were doing it but because i knew that Nige had offered to assist Graham on this day. You did say that the armband has been passed to Nige so i assumed he was captain. Theres nothing worse than trying to captain a team and be stuck on the admin desk. Hence my offer of help. Youve since said that Chris is captain so Nige should still be ok for the admin desk.
Hope you have a great mothers day and that the lunch goes well. But dont forget when kids are let loose in the kitchen the clearing up normally takes longer than the cooking itself!! :D

These dates have been out for a while now and Richard’s is the only objection to it being held on mother’s day.
It was held on mother’s day on 2005 and there were no objections then. As mother’s day moves around in March from year to year it will undoubtedly clash with one of Bournemouth or 1 day interleague or home and away interleague every year. So it is a case of priorities for various people I am afraid.
As Jean says, you can’t cater for all these religious days in the calendar as tournaments would never be held. If you hold 1 day interleague any earlier you clash with the international and Oxofrd Open, and later and you clash with Bournemouth as the tournament has to run in 2 consecutive weeks as the tables are hired for that period and stored the venue for that week.
