Sav don't be antagonistic, there is no need. This was not an assault on 'your' tables. You do not know what tables I played nor how they were set up or how they played at the time I played them. I did not say the tables were incapable of getting a break, I said one worthy of 15k+ and seeing as some of the tables played 16:30, you need a table that behaved itself to get over 15k. Tables don't get breaks, players do! If you have a problem with a table, epecially if it is running short as all clocks were set at seventeen and a quarter minutes, then please report it to the tournament organiser so that it can be recorded on the National tables board, as requested, so that I can arrange correction if a pattern emerges. Sav.

RE the breaks, yes well done to Steven who got the 15k high break, I'll be going for it next year as I got 10k and touched and had plenty of time, then didn't play another table worthy of a high break. A good player adapts his game to the table, not the table to his game. All the tables are excellent, I know I refurbished them! >:(. What may be lacking is players offering to help ease the load on Dave and Phil by getting there early enough to help set them up. Sav. Having either played, scored or watched every table in the room at some stage yesterday, I would say that ALL of the tables were excellent and had been very well set up and I am sure that the scores achieved will reflect that. ;D What seemed to catch out some players was the speed of the tables as they are now much quicker than they used to be and you do have to adapt your game to allow for that.... as I found out to my own cost in one of my games. :-[ :'( I think that there will be some very high scores made in the Open Competitions next year as the players become more used to the tables and they will certainly be easier to set up to play well than perhaps they were earlier this year. ;D

I wish this thread was about how good the standard on the Under 25s was yesterday instead of how bad or good the tables were. ???

I wish this thread was about how good the standard on the Under 25s was yesterday instead of how bad or good the tables were. ??? It certainly started that way..... ;D Who won im eagre to hear? Congratulations to Lewis Stratford, who beat Lorenzo Hickman in the Final. 8-) Well played to all the young guns taking part.... some very good games played during the day. ;D But at least talking about the tables is much more interesting than the "70's Fashion Show" that the thread had turned into at one stage!! ::) ;D ;D

Well done to all who took part and proved we have some very good up and coming players coming through the ranks. ;D
Congratulations Lewis on winning the title ;D
Also congratulations to Stephen who had his first competitive table play out to win the highest score, and who knows if you had lost your 11k break in the Semi's it may off been a different story. ;) ;D

As someone only just too old to have entered, the use of belts has never been an issue for myself, I understand it no more than you do, suggesting that perhaps age isn't the issue here lol

Congratulations to Lewis and commiserations to Enzo. Some really good games in the Under 25s. Also well done to Stephen. I had the pleasure of scoring your first ever table playout and to be honest it was never in doubt. Never looked like missing.
Also want to say thankyou to the young lad (sorry dont know his name. Think he was from Northants) who scored my first match against Jenny. After getting a 8960 break in the 2nd leg he asked me if I played County and when I said yes he then said hed never seen anything like it. (Not sure how many female players in Northants lol). Made my day though x

I must admit, every table i played on was fantastic, they suited my style of being quick, and there was no quirks at all.
I must also agree with lewis, i think the standard of the younger generation was great yesterday, there was some really exciting games, some big scores, and also a great attendance. I think it is important to try and keep the enthusiasm within the younger generation, because it is a sport in decline, and regardless of ability, it is important new players come along!
I hope to see some of the people i played yesterday attending opens and testing our abilities against the oldies :)

(Not sure how many female players in Northants lol) Penny Burch was the last, and was considered good enough to play in the mens county section as recently as 2008....she held her own with a 5k and nearly shocked Dave Ingram, losing 3k - 6k.

Yes, I remember that game, it was my debut for Sussex B in Divison 2 and she played well against me.... she also beat Doug Phillips from Kent on the day. ;)

Thanks for all the Congrats :)
I'd also like to thank the organizers for making it a well run day. I didn't realize that all the tables had been re-clothed, they were super quick. A couple of tables I played on i found that it was hard to get the break back but when I eventually did there was no faulting the break and one up.
During the tournament it looked as if Stephen was gonna walk it with ease, every game he played he never looked like missing ::) But when I heard about what happened in his Semi-final against enzo no offense to him but the trophy looked alot closer for me to take :) . Commiserations to the Runner-up, my Jersey buddy Enzo it seemed like none of us wanted to cross the finishing line in that final but I just got there ;D
Hopefully I can retain it next year 8-)

Me and craig mace played table one which had a very strange one up, but we had a cracking game on it where i got my best break on the day and came so close to punishing him but fell short, we both sussed it and treated it with respect and saw the rewards. I think it was all there for the tables, but required a lot of adaptation.

Would love to see the average for each table. Every player is different . The 3 tables I played in my group games I thought were fab. This included table 1 which myself and Pauline had a really good game on (probably scoring 20k between us).Denise and I both struggled a bit to get to grips with table 3 in the final although we did eventually but this was the table that phil had 22k on earlier.

I did feel confident, mostly down to the quality of the tables. Maybe a little too confident and should have came off the table earlier without risking my break, could have been a different story. All in all I think a very good day had by all, and I echo the comment made about playing it alongside the Grand Prix, it was a great to be able to watch some exhibition quality Billiards.

Sav. Again Chris, you misinterpreted what I was saying and assumed I was slating the tables whereas I found them in a lot nicer condition than I think the Berks Open in the same venue where everyone was complaining. I did not find them overly quick though as some people are saying so the league tables I play on must be quick and I am used to it. It was the way in which the table's quirks which developed throughout the day that meant a 15k+ break was a tall order even for elite players let alone myself who would need a near perfect table such as table 5 or 6 to get one. I didn't mean to imply the other tables were bad, jheez it's hard to say anything without covering your on backside but yes now I've read it again I see why you reacted this way. Perhaps I should have worded it differently. EDIT: After seeing Dave's averages I don't think it's unfair to name the tables I was talking about 15k being extremely unlikely.. 2 and 8. I also struggled with 3 but Phil's 22k on there made me feel very pedestrian. Also 16:30 is perfectly legal, why would I report this unless asked to? I will take note that they should be 17:15. Also it could have been the way me or my opponent pulled the bar. P.S. Table 9 ran 19+ minutes LOL - Did we have "the hoodie" versus the "full tuxedo" in the Final ? ;D ;D ;D Unfortunately not Clive, I felt that it would be disrespectful to the Grand Prix players and could be seens as 'mocking' them by wearing the same attire. I will have to earn my right to wear the Tux.

An overall increase of 10% in the scores for both the Open and Ladies Grand Prix Competitions and high scores recorded on all of the tables throughout the day.... 8-) I think a big vote of thanks should go to both Chris Saville for the excellent job he did refurbishing the tables recently.... and also to Dave Alder and the AEBBA helpers who set the tables up on the day. Great work all of you.... THANK YOU SO MUCH!! 8-) ;D ;D ;D
