Could not the U25s competition be brought forward a week and be played at the Salfords Club Horley, along side the National Off-the-Spot ? Kyle, Jack and Joe are going to be there anyway and you'd only need one more for a competition that shouldn't take much organising. This would emulate what happens in Jersey with the young players competition. The alternative seems to be just 2 playing a final - or cancellation altogether.

If someone wants to drive to Brighton and pick jack up and bring him back I am sure he would love to play but he is only 15 and can't get there. Some of us spend a lot of money travelling to away venues and can't do it all!!!!

Is Chris too old to enter? And do you and jack drive?

Not really viable if they are also entering the Off the Spot competition because of how many tables they could be playing? At the end of the day, does that really matter ? We are facing a unique situation here and a positive outlook is required if this competition is to be saved. Besides, if duplication of tables is a matter of concern, the 3 or 4-way player competition could be held on the Salfords Club's own tables: (A second one, from the Old Oak, has been added whilst the pub is closed for refurbishment.)

Playing The Under 25's the same day as the National Off the spot works for me quite well - saves me another trip to Oxford and would be a shame not to have the competition. :)

Wonderful thoughts but you cannot change the dates for Competitions this year.
You can though make proposals for next year trough the AGM but you need to get your proposals in 21 or 14 days in advance cannot remember timescales - but in the rules for you to read on here.
Thanks Chris

On a personal note Clive and not anything to do with the committee - I have absolutely no issues with changing dates when it makes common sense to do so.

Dave Alder and I have discussed the U25s tonight and realise there will be no event on the date marked.
We both agree that this could be held with the Grand Prix. Common sense prevails here.
So the date now for this event is the Grand Prix.
So guess again I am about to be banned !! xxx
Or no event held xxx

Still at Didcot, though.
There is a precedent for proceeding with just 2 players:
In 2001, Steven Sheard and Dominic Kuligowicz played a best-of-five 2-leg matches; In 2005, Steven Sheard and Chris Reeves played a best-of-seven 2-leg matches.
Full details can be found in BBQ43 (page 4) and BBQ60 (page 45) - viewable via the Witney website.

If there's a precedent why was it suggested it be played at the Off The Spot?
Surely it can only be a good thing that the dates been moved. Even though it's in Didcot hopefully some of the youngsters from the South will be able to get lifts from people in the Grand Prix
I wonder if the players involved when there were only 2 in it were happy with the situation. Somehow I think not

My point with the 'precedent' was not to try and keep to the original date, but purely in answer to the statement "or no event held". And the earlier suggestion to move to the off-the-spot date was so as the Sussex guys could enter as they would be there anyway.
I am trying to encourage the playing of bar billiards, not the reverse (as people seem determined to paint me).

Perfect!! :) The more players we can get in the competition the better, it would have been quite a way to come just for the two of us in it. The change of date suits me so please keep me in it. Thanks for the update.

I have sent a PM to Lewis. Hoping he picks this up...
This is one of those times when you know entrants need to declare before the event.
As far as we know there were only two entrants??
The under 25's though is now with the Grand Prix
Thanks Chris

Sorry. I am not able to make it on Sunday for the over 50s/60s due to Inter League clashing with this date. A bit ambitious to try and get from Didcot to Hastings by 7.30.

Would like to attend but not getting up at the crack of sparrow's fart to travel the 150 miles.
If I am lucky with the trains after cycling across London to Paddington then I can be there at 1100hrs, if I miss the connection it would be 1120hrs - but will be there. Is that OK Nigel?

No wasn't me Clive I started off like a train not dropping a leg anywhere but ran out of steam at the end. I lost to the Silver Fox in the Over 60's final following his 10k opener and to P.B. in the over 50's semi in a cracking game of four sizeable breaks on a tricky top that saw me 500 behind when the bar dropped. Ernie Jordan won the other semi and I believe was winning the final against P.B. when I conceded and dashed out of the hall to get the ten past eight train! If I'd missed that it would have been a cold night!!
It was a day of surprises with neither Tony Martin or the Silver Fox qualifying from their Over 50's groups! Only twenty in the over 50's and no under 25's as expected. It really was not worth the caterer and the barman staying there all day.
Certainly needs looking at by AEBBA.

Over 50's was done in four groups of five and Over 60's was done on a knockout basis. Ernie played Dennis in the 1st round of the 60's and lost, then Cliff Slade played Dennis in the 60's and lost - not sure who Dennis played after that until the final against Chris. Ernie's group was Cliff Slade, Dennis Atkins, Geoff Pitt and Pauline. Ernie won all his games apart from against Pauline, winning the group. He played Myra in the Quarter Final, then Ian Moquet in the Semi, then Pete Burton in the Final. It was to see the club looking so empty after Dave's efforts of setting all the tables up (and Dave Tooke I think) and running the day with Janet - thank you to all of you. I also felt sorry for the caterer as it seemed like an awful waste of her day, but I am sure Dave is trying to come up with ideas so this does not happen again. A special mention to Myra for beating Tony Martin with over 8,000 :)
