well first home game for the ash e tonight, thought it was going to be much tougher! peter payne beat colin quite easily 2220 to colins 840!!!!! mick played fred, and won with 3500 to freds 610, chris just about beat peter crabtree 1840 to peters 970, 3-0 and coasting, gareth played nags a clive, gareth black pegging final ball to clives 1860, and mick played again against an in form stewart 2520 for mick and 2750 for stewie, so 3-2 the final result, i'll leave colin to mention anything else!!!!! yes I'm and continue to be an easy touch Always great fun with our old (very) Eastbourne friends playing as the Ashburnham E, the table should be arrested for crimes against bar billiards with no one able to keep a break going, still t'was the same for all and there were plenty of Laughs and interesting shots played all night.

Week 3 report by Andy Ellison
This week saw the first home fixture for newcomers Ashburnham Arms E in the Hastings Bar Billiards League and they began as if they had played there for ever. On an evening of low scoring, playing against Nags Head B, the new team shot into a 3-0 lead with wins for Peter Payne, Mick Reilly and Chris Haynes. Guest player Clive Minihane replied with a victory for Nags B and Stewart Chant added a last gasp win for the away side, but Ash E were happy with a 3-2 score line in their favour.
Old King John remain top despite a 3-2 loss at home to Ashburnham A. Dave White and Mick Osborne were early winners for reigning champions Ash A, but Andy Eldridge and Andy Ellison hit back with near-identical totals of 4300 plus to level the scores at 2-2. The final frame of he evening was another close encounter, resolved in favour of Roy Harmer of Ash A on the penultimate ball.
Jenny Lind B claimed bragging rights over their A side in another tight match at the Old Town venue. Andy Horsler kept up his unbeaten seasonal record and Les Thomas added to the total to make it 2-0 to the B team. Andrew Lipscombe and high-scoring Nick Speight responded well for the A squad to ensure a tight finish . However pub landlord KC Challis chose the right moment to step up for his first victory of the season in the decider, giving Jenny B a 3-2 win.

This weeks report sent to Hastings Gazette by our Andy Ellison
Very few teenagers will have celebrated their birthday with a winning performance in bar billiards, but Jamie Minihane did just that with a vital win for Nags Head A in their match at home against Old King John. Chris Lamb and Garry Tomlin put the visitors into an early lead, before Jamie's dad Clive showed the way with a clear win for the home team. After a slow start, Jamie recorded 4120, the best total of the evening to level the match score at 2-2. Nags A still needed Steve Featherstone to clinch the 3-2 victory with a win in the tight finale.
Ashburnham Arms E remain top however thanks to a 4-1 away win at Jenny Lind B. Andy Horsler maintained his undefeated record for the home team but he was Jenny B's sole winner as Peter Payne, Mick Reilly, Gareth Dell and Chris Haynes with 5910 were all solid winners for the Eastbourne-based Ash E.
There was another close encounter as Ashburnham A went 2-0 up against Jenny Lind A at home with Mick Osborne and Dave White on target on their home table. Jenny A replied strongly however and good wins from Nick Speight and Denis Cole saw the visitors draw level. It was left to Ash A skipper Sandy Harmer to step up for the win that meant a result of 3-2 to Ash A.

Report from Andy Ellison
Eastbourne-based Ashburnham Arms E maintained their lead in the Hastings Bar Billiards League, helped in part through the recruitment of Hastings star Phil Osborne. Skipper Gareth Dell put Ash E into an early lead at Nags Head A, but Jamie Minihane with an impressive 8340 and Steve Featherstone replied with wins for Nags A. Having warmed up with a respectable 6920, Phil, who has been focused on inter-league play in the last couple of years , went to town in his second game of the night with the League's seasonal second highest score of 11670 including a break of 5220. This gave Ash E a vital 3-2 winning margin.
However Old King John were able to narrow the gap at the top as they returned to winning ways with a 4-1 victory at home against Jenny Lind A. Captain Andy Eldridge, Mark Bailey, Chris Lamb and Andy Ellison were the winning players for OKJ, but Nick Speight kept his seasonal unbeaten record for Jenny A, so avoiding the whitewash for Jenny A.
There was a similar score line in favour of Ashburnham Arms A in their home encounter with Nags Head B. Roy Harmer, Dave White, Mick Osborne and skipper Sandy Harmer with 6700 were successful for the holders as their season gains momentum. Stewart Chant was the only Nags B player able to halt the home team's progress as his win kept the score at 4-1 to Ash A.
The top two teams meet this week before the League's mid-season break.

Week 7 report from Andy Ellison
Ashburnham Arms E remain top of the league, meanwhile, thanks to a 3-2 home win against nearest rivals Old King John. On an evening of tense individual contests, Mick Reilly secured an important win for Ash E, but it was Chris Haynes who proved the key player with good victories in both of his games including the crucial decider. Andy Eldridge and a revitalised Nigel Doe had battled well to claim parity for OKJ at 2-2, but Haynes kept his nerve to see his side home.
Ashburnham A went 2-0 down in their away fixture against Jenny Lind B, with Tom Palmer and Linda Challis recording early wins for the home side. Ash A were stung into a response with Mick Osborne, Dave White and Roy Harmer securing a 3-2 victory to enhance Ash A's challenge for second place.
The clearest result of the evening came in the internal clash at Nags Head, where the A side prevailed against the B team 4-1. Steve McGill with 6350 and Steve Featherstone were early winners for Nags A, while Clive and Jamie Minihane with 5090 were on target later in the evening. Consolation for Nags B came midway through as skipper Colin Southouse returned to his best form with a total of 12350 including a high break of 8340.

Games in the Hastings Bar Billiards League last week were overshadowed by the sad loss of Jenny Lind landlord, KC Challis, player and great supporter of the League.
Sympathy is extended from officials and all players in the League to Linda and to KC's family.
The Jenny Lind B team made the decision to proceed with their game against Nags Head A last week, and the result was a 4-1 win for Nags A, although the outcome was of little concern to either side in the circumstances. Sean Croft, Clive Minihane, Steve Featherstone and Steve McGill were winners for Nags A, whilst Andy Horsler secured a success for Jenny B..
The gap at the top of the table was reduced to 4 points as Ashburnham Arms E lost their first game of the season at home to Jenny Lind A. Chris Haynes and Gareth Dell were winners for the leaders but Ray Norton, Denis Cole and the still undefeated Nick Speight with 4600 showed the way with good away performances in the 3-2 win for Jenny A.
Old King John narrowed the gap with a 4-1 victory at Nags Head B. Andy Eldridge, Chris Lamb, Nigel Doe and Andy Ellison put OKJ into a 4-0 lead with sound play before Nags B skipper Colin Southouse put in a late appearance to record the best total of the night, 7240 to keep the final score to 4-1 to OKJ.

Week 9 report from Andy Ellison
Nags Head B skipper Colin Southouse warmed up for his participation in the Bar Billiards World Championship in Jersey with two more records in his team's fixture at Jenny Lind A in the Hastings Bar Billiards League. His score of 13800 was the highest ever recorded on the Jenny Lind table and his break of 12780 was the best of the season in the League. Jenny A were not overawed by this performance though, Nick Speight maintained his unbeaten run with a total of 4910 and Denis Cole won as well. However father and son Fred and Alec Pope stepped forward to support their captain and claim the wins that gave Nag B the 3-2 success.
With leaders Ashburnham Arms E on an enforced rest, Old King John took the opportunity to leapfrog them and go top. At home against a luckless Jenny Lind B side, Mark Bailey, Nigel Doe, Garry Tomlin .Chris Lamb and Andy Ellison showed a familiarity with their home table and recorded the very similar scores that saw OKJ through to a 5-0 win.
Missing Skipper Sandy Harmer, Ashburnham Arms A found the going tough at Nags Head A. Jamie Minihane was the highest scorer of the night for the home team with a winning total of 5630 but he was well backed up by dad Clive, Steve McGill and captain Sean Croft who were all winners. In-form Mick Osborne rescued a point for the visitors but the overall result was a 4-1 win for Nags A.

Report from Andy Ellison
There was a real nail-biter in the Hastings Bar Billiards League as Old King John consolidated their position at the top with the narrowest of wins at old rivals Ashburnham A. Their hosts made a strong start with fit-again skipper Sandy Harmer recording a winning score of 6400 and Mick Osborne following him with 5000 for his win. At this point OKJ dug in and Garry Tomlin turned the tide with a hard-fought success. Andy Ellison followed up with a winning score of 6170 to level things at 2-2, leaving Chris Lamb to grab the decider by the narrowest of margins, downing the final ball with his third attempt, resulting in a 3-2 win for OKJ.
Although ultimately unsuccessful in the World Championship, Colin Southouse showed that he hadn't left his form behind by outscoring his record of the previous week. This week the Nags Head B skipper rattled up the massive total of 14870, recording a break of 10800 in the process. Facing Ashburnham E at home he was well-supported by teammates Fred Pope with 6550, Stewart Chant and guest Clive Minihane who were winners for Nags B. Gareth Dell registered the only win for Ash E with the outcome a 4-1 win for Nags B.
The internal battle at the Jenny Lind was as close as ever with a 3-2 result in favour of Jenny B this time. Andy Horsler got back to winning ways for Jenny B with two victories on the night after Tom Palmer had put Jenny B away well with a win. After this it was left to Nick Speight who still remains unbeaten and Denis Cole to record the wins that narrowed the margin of defeat for Jenny A to the 3-2 scoreline in favour of Jenny B.
