Week 11 report by Andy Ellison
After stumbles in their previous two matches second-placed Ashburnham Arms E gave notice of their continued involvement in the title race in the Hastings Bar Billiards League with a 5-0 win at home against Jenny Lind B. Peter Payne, Mick Reilly and Chris Haynes with 5570 established a strong base for Ash E allowing Gareth Dell the freedom to step up with two wins to complete the whitewash.
Old King John remain top however as they recorded a good 4-1 home win against Nags Head A. Nigel Doe, Andy Eldridge and Andy Ellison put OKJ into a 3-0 lead, and then Garry Tomlin hit his seasonal best for a fourth win for OKJ. The final frame of the evening went to Nags B as Steve Featherstone played a determined game to cut the deficit to a 4-1 scoreline in favour of OKJ.
There was a close encounter at Jenny Lind A where visitors Ashburnham Arms A benefited from a return to form by Dave White who with 6250 won with the best total of the night. Mick Osborne and Sandy Harmer gave winning support for Ash A. Regular winners Nick Speight and Denis Cole dug in well for Jenny A leaving the final score at 3-2 for Ash A.
All teams enjoy a break this week in preparation for the final run-in.

This weeks report from our Andy Ellison
In the Hastings Bar Billiards League second-placed Ashburnham Arms E met title holders and table-sharers Ashburnham A this week. Peter Payne put the challengers into an early lead but the holders were pushed into a vigorous response as Dave White and Mick Osborne both recorded winning totals of 5600. Dave Pearce added a sound win for Ash A before their skipper Sandy Harmer helped his side through to a 4-1 win with a high break of 7500 against a luckless Mick Reilly who scored 6200 but suffered a narrow loss in one of the games of the season.
Steve Featherstone continued his good run of form for Nags Head A, with an early win against previously unbeaten Nick Speight of Jenny Lind A. Andrew Lipscombe and Billy Skinner were winners for Jenny A to set up a close fight but Clive Minihane and skipper Sean Croft stood firm to give Nags A a 3-2 win.
Colin Southouse, Nags Head B captain, recorded another massive total, this week he managed 11600 at Jenny Lind B. He was ably backed up by teammates Stewart Chant, Alec Pope and Fred Pope who had two wins in the 5-0 result in favour of Nags B. This pattern of results left Old King John as league leaders with two fixtures to play.

Week 13 report from our Andy Ellison
The outcome of the Hastings Bar Billiards League has come down to a final week shootout between Ashburnham Arms E and Old King John. Second-placed Ash E gave notice of their intention to take the league to the final week with an emphatic 4-1 win at home against Nags Head A. Chris Haynes was at the forefront for Ash E with two high-scoring wins, and Mick Reilly echoed Chris's scoring feats with 7300 in his win. Gareth Dell was Ash E's other winner while Jamie Minihane recorded the consolation score for Nags A.
Old King John were unable to take the opportunity to secure the title as they went down 3-2 at Jenny Lind A. Mark Bailey and Chris Lamb were winners for OKJ but Andrew Lipscombe and Nick Speight were clear winners for the home side and Denis Cole stayed strong to thwart OKJ skipper Andy Eldridge and secure the 3-2 win for Jenny A in the deciding frame.
Ashburnham Arms A found the going tough at Nags Head B. Once again the best scorer of the night for the home team was skipper Colin Southouse with a winning total of 12260 and he was well backed up by Stewart Chant who won two games and Fred Pope. Dave White rescued a point for the visitors but the overall result was a 4-1 win for Nags B.
The final fixtures including the game between the top two take place on the first Wednesday of the New Year.

Week 14 report from Andy EllisonOld King John Bar Billiards team achieved their second Hastings League title in three yeas with a 3-2 win over closest rivals Ashburnham Arms E on a tension-filled evening at the Old King John last week. The first game set the tone as Andy Ellison for OKJ and Phil Osborne for Ash E kept pace until the last few minutes when Andy settled into a break of 3000 to post the best total of the night of 5410 and ease the home team's nerves. However match scores were levelled as Garry Tomlin and Gareth Dell fought out another tight leg with Gareth prevailing for Ash E on the penultimate ball. Nigel Doe put together a very sound game with a winning score of 4250 for OKJ in the next, then OKJ skipper Andy Eldridge repeated Nigel's performance and had the honour of seeing his side to a winning 3-1 position. Chris Haynes took the last game for Ash E to leave the final score at 3-2 and ensure a creditable runners-up position for Ash E in their debut season in the Hastings League. Nags Head B secured third spot with a 4-1 win against stablemates Nags A. Pete Crabtree, Colin Southouse, Stewart Chant and Fred Pope were victorious for Nags B whilst Jamie Minihane hit the highest score of the match of 4710 to record the consolation win for Nags A. Ashburnham Arms A found the going tough at home against Jenny Lind B. Les Thomas set the Jenny B on the way with the early victory. Dave White and Roy Harmer responded well for Ash A but Tom Palmer and Andy Horsler kept their focus to record wins and an excellent 3-2 away victory for Jenny B. The bar billiards season is far from over, however, as the teams participate in the knockout Rix Cup and the Handicap League as the year progresses. Report on The First match Alec Popped in to play tonight at his fav. Hastings Pub (rare for us to field 5 players) and quickly took advantage of his opponent, and also took advantage of the Theakstons Barrel but remained upright till the end I had a quick game of snooker before his match, not sure this is relavant but i missed both holes on my opening break shot and spent the rest of the game visiting Stewarts' relatives in a galaxy far far away culminating in BP near the end after a nice recovery break of 5.5k, several of the opposing team spent the rest of the night reminding me of my diminishing BB prowess, its a good job my Altzheimers allows me to forget quickly. Peter and Sandy found the table tricky and sandy pulled away at the end Stewart started 1k behind but made a nice 2.5k break and kept it, Roy Chased valiantly but was unable to catch thanks to a 16 min clock The Best game of the night saw Dave and Fred battling it out for the honours in the decider, in the end Fred needed to keep 1 of the last 2 up but failed to pot and it was Dave who sunk the last two balls at his first attempt to take the game and Match. Plenty of fun and frolicks all night, we always have plenty of chatter with our ash mates, and pleased to say i took my ribbing from ALL in good spirit. ( probably more to follow ) regs cs
