The next BBQ (out Sept) will include a fairly long editorial, but I am taking the unusual step of reproducing parts of it as it stands now, bearing in mind that small changes or additions may be made before then.
There has already been a few major deletions after input by Glenn himself.
I have already posted parts of it under the relevant threads (The Rankings and England Selection Process) but here is the part which covers the BBQ support or otherwise of the Forum.
THE FORUM
Sadly, THE FORUM, which has been wonderfully successful in getting (and instantly publishing) all the bar billiards news over the last year or so, is no longer being directly supported by the BBQ.
This has had a few minor repercussions, e.g. the newly-created “BBQ Tipsters Derby” is cancelled (as far as the BBQ is concerned anyway), but will have no other effect on the much-maligned (by some) content of the BBQ, other than to perhaps severely diminish my own interest in continuing to support bar billiards in general with my own valuable time and effort.
Please feel assured, dear subscriber, that (unfortunately) this BBQ editor will retain his warped sense of humour (?) to the bitter end of the existence of this publication and beyond.
When that will be exactly is up for debate (in the editor’s tiny mind anyway), but is currently only guaranteed to the end of this subscription period, i.e. No.64, which is due out in January 2007.
Your support will be much appreciated until then.
BE ASSURED THAT SUBSCRIBERS WILL BE THE FIRST TO KNOW MY DECISION ON THIS MATTER WHEN IT IS MADE
I am sure there will be some “NET-nut” prepared to maintain records of all the various events as was my only intention when the BBQ was conceived in Dec 1990, albeit in a very different form (supposedly online? So if you are not “on the Net”, forget it!), but whoever does take on this task must be prepared to either attend ALL events him/herself or heavily rely on many other people to be accurate and reliable enough for it all to be taken seriously. Experience tells me that is dangerous.
The BBQ wishes it to be known that its withdrawal of support for the Forum in no way reflects upon Glenn Chubb, and still greatly admires his work to make the Forum such a huge success and his support for the game in general.
Meanwhile, those millions who do NOT share my sense of humour should either desist from reading the BBQ now, (especially if you are not the subscriber, you are just taking a free peek at what everybody else is talking about), or see it for what it is: JUST A BIT OF FUN.
If you do share my sense of humour, or at least can put up with it for a little longer, please feel free to READ ON.
You could even send in a comment for publication in the next issue. That would be welcomed….. (SUBSCRIBERS ONLY)
Whether the BBQ editor ever recreates any personal on-going interest in the Forum has not been irretrievably decided at the time of writing this editorial, the vote is 50/50 at the moment. But that is much more than votes on the proposed new ranking system. ;D (smiley entered late).
