Quizzes aren't everyone's cup of tea, but a lot of effort goes into them: So thought we ought to guage how popular they are.

I am a floating voter as usual, but surely if you don't like them, don't read them.
Just wait for mine

I've just posted a positive vote. Even if I do often seem to arrive when most of the questions have already been answered.

Can't wait ;D A Bar Billiards quiz by any chance ??? Now that you've mentioned it, it's occured to me that Elsie wasn't the first to do a quiz, there was an earlier one by Johnny George on bar billiards, and perhaps he could arrange another one. Elsie must take the credit for kick-starting the recent trend though. Pity he's been off-line for most of the past week. I've got some good subjects lined up, next one will probably be on Astronomy. Thanks for taking the time to vote. :-*

Margo is impressed with the lyricicity of your waxing, Mr Mike 007.
If Herr van Puebik is watching, you'll have scored tart points on four counts : being a poet, mention of sheep, mention of other food (hogs), and taking a pop at the worthy fellow himself ! ;D

BUMP !
Another chance to vote on whether you think the quizzes are a good thing or not.
We had a total of 117 last year and 35 people took part. This year I have overdone it a bit - 37 quizzes already and we're still in January. But it hasn't stopped 29 people from taking part.
I would like to see some more questions set about bar billiards - this is after all a bar billiards Forum. But who best to set 'em on Bar Billiards? Step forward Mario/Nigel Senior/Mark James/Alan Messer maybe - as where Sussex is concerned there's more activity on the coast and I'm a bit isolated here !
Any suggestions of a positive nature welcome.

I still enjoy the quizzes, and also enjoy occasionally contributing my own quizzes. When I check these boards, I tend to read the General BB Discussions & Members Chit Chat boards first, then this board afterwards. I don't therefore think the quizzes detract from the rest of the board.
They also help pass some of the time during long night shifts at work.

Why not do them Tommo, while you've got people taking part in them there's obviously an interest , I have a look when I've got time or the subject is something I know a bit about :)

I do like the quizzes, but the only gripe i have is with the people who answer them who "look up" the answers, rather than knowing the answers! I know there is no way of stopping this, but just had to say it !

I agree on that Mark, however some quizzes are so far 'off the norm' it is the only way people could possibly score points for the 'points league'. The only way to stop people from doing this to some extent is to: a) Do away with the league points system b) Use a more general knowledge only quizzes
I liked the technical electronic quiz for example but most of the architectural ones for example I dont even bother looking at, so in some ways are very biased towards certain people and I guess quizes will always suit some people. What I would agree on however is that most of the quizes would never be used as questions in a pub quiz or certainly very few. I like getting out and love old buildings churches etc however I couldn't names 3 parts of a church, you would have to be very dedicated to know anything about this type of quiz.
As Tony put, I would like to see them spread out a bit more and see a little more billiard discussions going on, maybe we have all been playing the game so long and on too many nights now that we can't be bothered with billiard chat any more. :(

Some interesting comments so far, which I will try to take aboard.
I would like to stress that while it may seem that some of the quizzes are very technical and specialised, these are the ones which are visible at the moment because they have a high percentage of questions left.
Remember others are too easy and get resolved straight away and confined to history. In 113 quizzes last year - and 30 plus already this year, you can't tell me there hasn't been a variety of subjects !
One thing I will promise: I don't try to catch people out with trick questions. And I make a lot of them pictorial ones, as every quiz can eventually be answered with a help of 'googling' - which is all in the game.
Here's a taster of what I have in the pipeline : Humour - Peter Kay; Fawlty Towers; more Blackadder Sport - County Cricket Culture - The Bible; Tall buildings; Heraldry; Astronomy TV/Film - Famous Film scenes; "The Prisoner".

And I make a lot of them pictorial ones, as every quiz can eventually be answered with a help of 'googling' - which is all in the game. That is my point exactly, whats the fun in having quizzes, if people are just going to cheat instead of using their brains. If they don't know, thats fine, just dont spoil it for the rest who like to have a challenge and think about the answers! I have only answered if i know - or a calculated guess, how many others can say the same ?

I can Mark. I will admit to Googling however that is just to make sure that the answer I was going to put is the correct one, a double check on it.
Tommo some interesting ones there, can we not have a few more general stuff rather specialised in single subjects for example Motor Racing rather than specifically F1, as I think if the questions covered various topics within a quiz from F1, drag racing, motorcycling, touring cars etc then more are likely to know the answers.
Maybe we could ask for 'honesty' from everyone that NO googling for answers for 3 days to give people at work and other reasons a chance to fill in what is 'known' already before the googlers fill in the rest. Just an idea, and honesty from participants.
