Very news indeed. People have said that Ray was a nice guy and a true gent. It seems inconceivable that as recently as 13th April - just six weeks ago - he was giving me a good thrashing (both games) in the Portsmouth Open. And I sensed that rather than rub my nose in it he deliberately let me have a chance of a go at the end to restore a bit of pride. A true gent. The bar billiards world has lost a player of International standing, and it must have been an emotional experience to see him turn up at Wallingford. Unbelievably sad news. Our thoughts to those he leaves behind. Rest in peace m8.

news that we had all been dreading hearing. Ray was a great guy and a formidble opponent. It is poignant that he got reselected for England this year (and won) after a tough first international a few years ago. That is a testament to what a good player he was. He will be greatly missed, my thoughts go out to all his family and friends.

Such a loss and when it is someone like Ray it seems worse, but will remember him for both his undoubted playing skills and the friendly chats we had.
My heartfelt condolences to Ray's family.

From here in the C.B.B.L. here in Medway in Kent, may I say, as President of our League that this is truly news indeed. I had the pleasure and privilage of playing Ray a couple of times in the Open competitions that I went to, and that Ray was a true sportsman, and GENTLEMAN. From all of us in the Medway area, we send our deepest sympathy to Ray's family, friends, and Bar Billiard collegues. All our thoughts are with all of you at this, the saddest of times. Dave May K.B.B.A Chairman, and C.B.B.L President

I heard this afternoon the news that we'd all been dreading. My thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Ray's family and friends at this very difficult time. The bar billiards community is a much poorer place this evening. Sleep well fella. Vinny

I really do not know what to say, i have known Ray for many years, as have all my family. Such a great loss of a true and honest gentleman. My mentor as a bar billiards player and i just hope to achieve half of what he has in his career. Such a sad loss and a real loss to everyone who knows him. RIP Ray, heaven will be a better place for you being there.

As you may know, I am just back from holiday. My thanks to Pauline for letting me know about this terrible news as soon as she could (1030 hours Tues, Italian time) . Not the sort of news you want to get when you are enjoying yourself, but I would not have wanted it any other way. I abandoned all other plans for the morning and just walked alone for a few hours, thinking of a few of the games Ray and I had enjoyed together, in the same team and as opponents. Sadly the two scheduled between us for Eynsham finals day June 14th will now not take place. I will request that Ray's mum receives the trophies because it is as sure as daylight is not due for a few hours yet, that I will not be accepting them under any circumstances.
I tried to find a church in the town I was visiting which could have allowed me to light a candle for him.
I am one of many who will miss Ray's presence and friendship beyond anything else.

This is such sad news and may I offer my personal condolences and those of Witney Bar Billiards to his Mum, his family and to his many close friends who I know will be deeply affected by his passing. It is measure of his popularity that I received many calls yesterday morning, all tinged with incredulity and great sorrow. Put simply, everyone - without exception - liked Ray because there was nothing about him to dislike. His outlook on life and his courage over the last few months should be an example to us all. Rest in peace Ray - your memory will live on for a very, very long time.

Ray's funeral will be next Friday 6th June @ 3pm.
It will be held at a church in Kennington, with a private service afterwards at Oxford Crematorium.
I will let you know the name of the church when I find out.

I am very upset that, having just returned from holiday, and another weekend away coming up soon, I am simply unable to get another Friday night off work. I would have been there otherwise, of course.
I am so sorry but I will be there in spirit only.

I will let you know the name of the church when I find out. Keith. There is only 1 church in Kennington, about 150 yards up from the Tandem. If it is a nice day, it would be best to park in the Tandem car park and walk from there.
