And to mark the new season, I have acquired a new mascot to assist the Zeds in our quest: it should be putting in a first appearance on Wednesday week. 8-)

does it vibrate and/or make a noise ? :-X No, nothing as complex as your singing unicorn, but it does have a special party trick which I'll be happy to demonstrate. ;)

Think it's about time I posted here. Can I just say I'm looking forward greatly to our debut in the Mid-Sussex League on Wednesday. Will see you all (and indeed, meet some of you for the first time) throughout the season, starting with the Hurst A guys this Wednesday. I have been giving the table some TLC and it should provide us with a good night of BB.
All the best for the season ahead lads, game on!

A very warm welcome to Mid-Sussex for both of our new teams this season, we look forward to playing at a couple of new venues and meeting some new (and old!) faces throughout the year.
Good luck to all of you.....!! ;)

Champions humbled.........
Handcross Z 2, Sportsman 3
Well, the Zeds threatened to start the season as they finished the last, and the new pink mascot was rampant, however it did not last and the evening finished with the tail firmly between the legs ! ;D :-[
Graham Daniels 3250, Tony Driver 1640 Barry Timson 7560, Colleen Park 980 Mick Holmwood 750, 'Aunty' Ros Appleby 1990 John Turner 1470, 'Sir' Trevor Appleby 2100 Alan Downs 2850, Dave Ingram 3740
Suffice it to say that it was an evening of mixed fortunes (Barry playing a beautiful game against an under-the-weather DA-DM), and then the Applebies rallying well to make it 2-all. We were then treated to a cracking last game, where Alan unfortunately 'Down-ed' 3k-plus but the BB Warrior edged him out with some fine steady play.
A pleasant evening with some interesting banter which - according to Margo - revealed some hidden depths in Sir Trevor ! :o ;D

To expand on the Hurst vs. Fish match:
H 16900 vs. Peter Hall 670
A few goes at the table to get off the mark, but a 3k, 6k, then two 3.5k+ breaks from H lead to victory.
Jim Ashford 2190 vs. Nigel Senior 7270
Both players again struggling to get going to begin with, Jim lost a 2.5k break early on but nigel got comfy and knocked in 3 2k+ breaks to seal his victory.
Ray Carpenter 3230 vs. Roy Wells 2310
Ray struggled, being slightly behind throughout the majority of the game, but a late 1.3k break lead to victory in the end.
Chris Ashford 4350 vs. Kevin Hall 8340
Kev took an early lead with a 4k break, with Chris following with about 2k. Kev then racked up another 3k, and a further 2k from Chris made for an excellently played game of bar billiards by both parties.
Les Whiteman 2970 vs. Bob Hall 2110
A steady game from both with Les just coming out just ahead in the end!
Many thanks to the Hurst club guys for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. May it be the first of many in Mid-Sussex!

Welcome to Mid Sussex Nigel! Welcome to H and the new teams too. :)
Thanks for a great opening game tommo, Margo and the rest of the Handcross team.
I'd emailed Dave before the match to say that there was a pink mascot whose reputation needed denting, but I was sad to see him with his tail between his legs at the end :'(
Nothing wrong with the table tonight, but both teams decided to make hard work of it, only Barry managing to really get going, and that only because a poorly DA-DM let him off the hook after his shaky start. But I'm pleased to say that my team grafted well for the win - I'm hoping we can hold our own this season after our unexpected promotion.
Excellent sausages, crunchy string chips and onion rings 8-) plus a large helping of good humour (didn't you know that Sir T is famous for his jokes Margo?) made for a lovely evening, with Margo and tommo winning the final friendly by exactly 100.

Glad you enjoyed your self last night nigel and thank you again for helping the Hurst A out, even if you didn't know who you were playing for when we walked into the pub ;D ;D
Well played to the laughing fish and a fantastic score from H hope you can do it on the away tables too ;)
Fantastic hosts and a lovely playing table am sure there will be many more scores on there and quite possibly the table to have the highest away break and score on ;)

Greyhound 3 St Francis 2
Paul Goodwin lost to Matt Geal Neil Burchell beat Chris Little Geoff Fairs beat Shaun Morris Peter Burchll beat Bob Ellis Trevor Rees lost to Ray Fogwill
Everybody a bit match rusty on the first match of the season. A good win for Matt in a fairly scrappy first game. Neil only got 300 off the break but redeemed himself later. Geoff and Shaun had the best game of the night with Shaun black pegging after the bar in a desperate attempt to score 800 from 7 balls. Peter went off with 3k and held on to his lead. Only three goes each in the last game with me not getting the break back until the last two minutes, you cant do much if you are not on the table well played Ray.

Enjoyable evening, as always, some good games on a table that only Barry really did any justice to.............. with the new mascot starting off in rampant form - before seemingly succumbing to brewers droop later in the evening, goodness knows what Sir Jock will make of him when they meet! ;D

Well played to the laughing fish and a fantastic score from H hope you can do it on the away tables too ;) Very impressive debut by H from the sound of it. Like to welcome Nigel too, obviously he won't be a regular once Brighton gets underway, but good to see him making the effort to see what Mid Sussex is about. ;) Rumour has it that Boball has also signed Sir KT, so he now has both the No.1 and No.2 players in the world on his books. :o :o Impressive !
