Hurst A v Sportsman has been postponed for the 5th of November is all ok with Mrs hall competition secretary as a number of my superstars including myself will be over the channel practicing for the world championship.
After seeing Ros in tesco's she was more than kind enough to postpone it until we return i hope this will be ok

A very pleasant evening made welcome by the landlord as always at this the Brewers.
A close fought match where none of us came to terms with the pile of firewood masquerading as a bar billiard table.
Nice to meet one of the new teams and one or two of my old customers from the Liverpool days.

Royal Oak v Handcross Z (played at the Sportsman)
Jan Hinkins 1060, Alan Downs 6200 Russell Jennings 2430, Graham Daniels 3950 Anne Stockinger 320, Johnny Haigh 4420 Val Gritton 660, Barry Timson 3690 John Brocklehurst 1930, Mick Holmwood 1880
Royal Oak 1 H/X Zeds 4
Pleasant evening, sporting opponents, nice table, accommodating venue, food provided (included Scampi :-*). Pub has a notice "we can do any kind of function". Thought "this would be ideal venue for a Masters competition". Ran the idea past Jean and Alan (who came along to spectate) - they agreed that two extra tables from Tarratts could easily be fitted in for a day.
That's it now, no more b/bs till Jersey, will see Mama Hall over there and hand the card over then.

Plough 2 vs 3 Laughing Fish
Des Gasson 1450 vs 2850 Keith Fantom
1k opener for Keith. A few smaller breaks proved enough to win!
Keith Potter 4840 vs 1240 Les Whiteman
Keith missed on his first one up, but Les couldn't capitalise letting keith in for a few medium sized breaks followed by 1.7k for the win.
Mark Webber 3100 vs 3220 Ray Carpenter
Ray opened with 1.7k and followed with another 1k. Mark tried hard to reply but put the break down 4 times. He then managed a 1.7k and got close but Ray potted the last ball for the win.
Geoff Parsons 5410 vs 710 Andy Brooks
Geoff started with 800 but Andy couldn't get going so Geoff added another 2.8k and a few smaller breaks for a solid victory.
Marc Fuller BP vs 10830 H
I started with only 1.6k missing a 50/10 split, I got back in with another 3k, and then another 5k with Marc stuggling to get going, and an unlucky black peg near the end!
A good night with a good opposition. Really, I can't not complain about the lack of food. We at the fish will always provide food for any teams that play at ours, so we are understandably a little bit miffed that nothing was provided for us. Nonetheless, we enjoyed ourselves this evening!

Hi Q The quote you used was from 13th Oct. I think you will find on 30th Oct, I apologised for trying to spice things up and have some fun and nonesense, and have refrained ever since.
I now also declare a ceasefire against the 'table police'. You may all moan, whine, mank, and be as rude as you like about each others tables, and I will leave you alone. Therepentantone

H - congratulations on your great Cup win over the Premiership leaders - who remain unbeaten in the League. And the decider taken in style !
Regarding the food, I think I read somewhere that in a Team Knockout match, played on a neutral venue, there is no obligation to provide food unless a prior arrangement is made. It is up to the Captain of the team drawn as 'Home team' ie the first named in the draw to phone up the venue. Most venues are compliant to this - but the teams have to pay for it ! The procedure was followed last night for our match, and the venue (Sportsman) did both teams proud.

Well nothing was mentioned about food arrangements to me prior to the match, we all said we would have had no problem paying for it, but not even that option was presented to us. Nevermind, life goes on...

Thanks nice to know that my efforts over the summer really paid of!!!!! This would be the same pile of firwood that kev hall hit 10,500 on, adam bateup with at least 2 9k+ and myself with a 6k+ and 8k+ just last week, to name but a few, pretty impressive pile of firewood, if you ask me!!!! Despite the pile of firewood we played on last night we managed a 5-0 whitewash, all be it with the white horse missing a player and colin pegging a 3k break whch would have won him the match, mama hall fighting through the tops difficulties to post a great 5180 and the mighty sherriff giving ole coleman a lesson in getting the break back on that top, banging in a further 5260. So to echo shaun, we obviously played it as we found it. Massive thanks to the landlord, Trevor I think for providing an excellent spread of food, FREE of charge!!!!! Highlight of the evening was returning home knowing that we don't have the worst table in the league, buy a long country mile! Low point of the evening coming home and reading crappy comments about your own top. Which are of course taken personnally!

To be fair, since my initial disastrous game on the Brewers table, I have since played there in the Lewes League, and while the table was far from easy, I hit a good 6k on it and it seemed to play a lot better. I think its just one of these tables that changes with temperature and humidity etc. It can play very well some times, and some times not.

Oh Jock You missed out my 9k break on your table. Wouldn't mind so much but it left me with a crippled back, and it's the best break I have achieved since the old king died.
On a serious note, I know I let things get the better of me on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The ex ptg was aware that I arrived at the game in pieces, having had to take care of a young girl after an horrific firework incident. Got an email last night to let me know that the girl is fine apart from cuts, and a massive lump between her eyes. It is a miracle that she did not loose her sight or die. My girl Chloe is fine and seems unafected by the incident. Bar Bills can be great fun, but is not all that important. regards to all. Theshakenone

I understand that. The club not have any staff then? Don't know how these Social Club things work, used to pubs... Not to worry, no harm done, and certainly no responsibility placed on either of the hurst teams!
