Hi All
Papa Hall and myself have just been down the Club to look at the table and it is now playing like it was. It was give a Brush, iron and have put a piece of carpet under each of the back legs.
I hope all will enjoy it as much as Papa Hall and I did this afternoon as nothing under 11k was scored ;)
Regards Kev

I did also clean the pockets with some baby wipes. But the main thing is NO adjustments were made by twisting the legs. The table was only picked up to make it more level with the front. Best of luck to you and your interleague team tonight Ian. Regards Kev

Thanks for your good work - the table played pretty well in the match against Brighton C last night although we unfortunately lost 4 - 3.

Glad you enjoyed the table ;) and sorry to hear about the lose. I am glad someone played it well as i had a phone call from bobhall saying there has been a complaint put in by someone on Sunday saying it is violently up hill and has a Violante left hand roll which meant i had to come out of a nice warm house to make sure the table was still playing as i had left it >:( The table Was playing as i had left it with the same left hand roll it has always had ::) Admittedly it is SLIGHTLY up hill, (Would never say Violently) But you are looking at the thickness of a 2 pence piece from the 'D' spot to the back of the the table :o Does that make a table Violently up hill? or slightly up hill? Anyway we shall see how it is playing at the weekend and then See what Hurst 'A' and 'B' teams think of it before any other adjustments are made to it if any at all as it is after all there table. But back onto a more positive note thank you Trevor for your positive feed back, it makes stupid trips like that worth while. Happy New Year to you and best of luck for the rest of the season ;)

I did not notice the uphill as the speed up the table was fine. I thought the left hand roll was a bit more than usual but I would leave well alone. It certainly deserves its place in the top three tables in our league.

In view of the fact that there was an Interleague match being played there that night, a League Match tomorrow and the Sussex Comps being held there next weekend...... I was trying to be helpful to make sure that the table is playing to it's usual high standard. Again, my apologies for your wasted journey...... next time I will keep my thoughts to myself. :-X :-X :-X

some people did not agree with the table tonight and once again was told it was violently left but they didnt go to specsavers as its a natts bo**ocks left its all in people head. You will note that I didn't post anything last night about this, however here are some facts & figures about the Hurst table this season:- Average combined team match scores before table was "moved":- Hurst A games - 33,988 (Home Team 21,770, Away Team 12,218) Hurst B games - 32,725 (Home Team 18,523, Away Team 14,202) Interleague * - 56,095 (Home Team 31,340, Away Team 24,755) * Interleague based on combined scores for Mid-Sussex A & B Teams Average combined team match scores since table was "moved":- Hurst A games - 21,510 (Home Team 11,530, Away Team 9,980) Overall score dropped by 36.71%. :o Hurst B games - 21,160 (Home Team 11,560, Away Team 9,600) Overall score dropped by 35.34% :o Interleague * - 46,200 (Home Team 29,020, Away Team 17,180) Overall score dropped by 17.64% ::) * Mid-Sussex B Interleague match v Brighton C played last Sunday Having played for Hurst A last season with personal average scores (Mid-Sussex & Interleague matches) of 6,519 and played Interleague matches there this season (average of 6,615) I do feel that I know the table well enough to say that it is NOT playing the same as it was before the carpet was laid...... there is a noticeable roll to the left and it is more uphill than it was before. If the roll is a "natts bo**ocks left", then all I can say is that there must be some pretty big "gnats" in Hurstpierpoint! I can honestly say that every table I have played in Mid-Sussex so far this season has played better than the Hurst table did last night. >:( :P To an extent, you can overcome the roll by hitting the ball harder, but you then run the risk of the balls whipping out of the back pockets and coming back "down the hill" to hit the pegs...... if it hadn't been for the lip of the 100 hole, Bobhall himself may well have flattened the black peg with 1 shot that he played (towards the 100 hole possibly, although it was hard to tell at the pace that he hit it!?) with the ball ending up about 6 inches up from the baulk line near the right hand side cushion. In case anybody says that this is just a case of "sour grapes" because I lost, they should note that I pointed this out on Sunday to IanG & Bobhall who had an Interleague match there that night. :P So, please don't insult me Bobhall, my glasses came from Specsavers only a few months ago........ you agreed when we spoke outside that it was uphill and that it did have a left hand roll, the only thing we disagreed about was how much! So, just look at the figures above, they say far more than I ever can about whether the table is playing the same as it was a few weeks ago. :P :P With the Sussex Comps being played there this weekend, I will be interested to hear the thoughts of those who are playing on (and setting up) the tables there, who are far better qualified to comment about this than I am. :-X :-X :-X

dave is on the end off a few losses and these things happen thats all im saying on the matter at this moment That's strange...... I thought that I had won my match in Lewes League on Monday night..... and I won my Mid-Sussex singles & doubles games just before Christmas as well. ::) :P :P Yes, I did lose an Interleague match on Sunday night (against the break to a good player who hit 13k past me) and I did lose my last Mid-Sussex game before Christmas to someone who played better than I did (as I pointed out on the post I made after the match!), but does that qualify as a losing run? I don't remember making any nasty comments about you Rob when you lost you first 5 games running and were in 99th place on the Mid-Sussex players list....... although I certainly remember congratulating you on your winning run a few weeks before Christmas. I am glad to see that you are now winning your Interleague matches as well, so keep letting your cue do the talking..... :P

Before this gets all blown out of proportion i admit it is uphill but you are looking at the thickness of a 2pence piece from the 'D' spot to the back of the table! It does also roll left but by a minute amount, a straight ball could still be played to each of the 30's and 20's. Regarding your comment that says 'I can honestly say that every table I have played in Mid-Sussex so far this season has played better than the Hurst table did last night'. I am not quite sure how you can say that Dave! I put in an 8k break without breaking in to a sweat after playing the 3 horseshoes table whic is completely different. I admit it is not playing like it was before the carpet was put down! But in my opinion it is easier to play now than it was. The red ball is far easier to controll on the 1 up, and was able to leave it near on the same spot each time for the split. All i can say is an off night might have been had. I have moved my posts here, as I feel it is more relevant than taking up thread space on Week 14 Results.

It does also roll left but by a minute amount, a straight ball could still be played to each of the 30's and 20's. To answer these points...... Obviously, it is up to every home team to decide how they should set up their table...... But, I really struggle to understand why any team would want to leave their table KNOWING that it has a roll and is uphill...... when a very simple adjustment would correct both of those. ??? ::) There have been many comments this year in the Mid-Sussex area of the Forum about tables that are not looked after as well as they should be..... I would NEVER say that about the Hurst top which has been the best table in the League for the past few years. So, why have it playing differently to the way it has been.....?? I have moved my previous posts to the "Hurst Social Club" thread as they have more relevance there than taking up space that should be kept for this weeks results. It would seem that the "Hurst Social Club" thread has now been locked...... ??? ::) So, my final comment, which I had left off earlier would be..... Kev mentioned that the "uphill" part of the table was equivalent to the thickness of a 2 pence piece..... presumably, this was measured using a Spirit Level? Apart from the fact that using a spirit level is not the best way to set up a table (although it can be used to start with)...... I would only say that it would depend on how long the spirit level was! Obviously, a 2 pence piece under a short spirit level would indicate more variation than under a long spirit level. ;D Perhaps whoever locked the other thread could transfer this post to there as well? Thank you, in anticipation. Nothing more for me to say now. :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X

Regarding your comment that says 'I can honestly say that every table I have played in Mid-Sussex so far this season has played better than the Hurst table did last night'. I am not quite sure how you can say that Dave! Unfortunately Kev, I can say it very easily..... although it did sadden me to say so. The simple facts are that the table has more of a roll than any other table in Mid-Sussex that I have played so far, is more uphill and the pockets at the back whip more - in my opinion, anyway. Since the start of last season, I have kept records of all my scores and performances and also notes on the tables and how they play on each game I have played..... (yes, sad git - I know)...... which have helped me to improve (I think) my game in the last couple of years. I will not (for obvious reasons, as it would be unfair to the home teams) post these comments here on the forum, but I would be prepared to PM you an edited copy of this seasons matches if you wanted me to? You will perhaps then understand why I initially mentioned the roll to IanG & Bobhall at the weekend...... it was not to be critical or unpleasant, it was simply a case of trying to help to get the table playing as well as it always has done in the past. You, of all people, should know that I have always considered the Hurst table to be the best in Mid-Sussex....... you also should know that I will (usually) blame myself, rather than the table, if I don't play well. As I said earlier, the Sussex Comps are being played at Hurst this weekend..... I will be interested to hear the thoughts then.

Well done Hurst 'A' After having a phone call again tonight with a complaint saying it was violently up hill and rolling left i thought i had better pop down and check for myself before the County weekend. 3 Down, 1up and 50/100 split :o :o what is the problem ??? and that was After playing the Three horseshoes table which is completely different to Hurst. a straight ball also to each of the 30's, and 20's before giving Bobhall a good spanking. Again Well done Hurst 'A' ;)

Surely here the issue is that the table has recently had a carpet fitted under it and will take some time to settle.
A good table doesn't become a bad table overnight, and patience is needed while it 'beds in'.

We'll let Mama Hall have the last word on this one: Why don't you all give it a rest and let the table settle, we all have problems when tables get moved. Thread locked for the time being.

Down to the Hurst Club and wondering what we'll find there. Well, Bobhall was there but not a lot of temperature. Game 3, TOF's break, and a win for Peter 1600 to 1500 Game 4, Peter's break, my win, 2k to 1k8 The table was disappointing, despite Bobhall's protestations. Oxford shots it may be good for, but we're not all that way inclined. So into the decider, Peter opens with 2K+, SFA for TOF. Peter continues with a steady progress of points, not so me and I finsh with something around 2K to Peter's 6K something. Well done him, it was a damned good match. I've played at the Hurst Club for a number of years now, and if that's the table I've now got to play on, I think I'll sign for the Greyhound next season. I may not get to play every week and I'll have to pay more for the beer, but I'll start enjoying my billiards again.

I had a sudden deja vu moment then about a previous post that I had read a few weeks ago................. :-X :-X :-X Well done Bobhall........ I would love to have seen your flawless 8k break, it's a great achievement and usually only ever done by the very best players. 8-) Personally, I will have to settle for the (very flawed) breaks that I get and hope that if I keep practicing that I will also reach a higher standard. ;) ;D ;D ;D

That doesn't sound good........ I hope that whatever the problem is (uphill & left-hand roll?) What ever!....... There is one thing bugging me about all this table business! You play an away table and you adjust to it, Correct? and you dont moan about the tables! So why cant you do the same down Hurst? I know its not playing as it was before the carpet business. So why dont you get your Bottoms down there and start practicing? it is your interleague top after all! I am getting ticked off with reading every week on how bad the table is. It really cant be all that bad! How many 10k scores over the sussex weekend? plus an 18k break by Richard Wootton. Perhaps there needs to be more time practicing the table and less time moaning about it! If you cant do that get the four teams down there and sort it out! Just stop moaning about it and do something about it. Choice 1 Adjust your game to suit the table. Choice 2 Adjust the table to suit the four teams playing there! Either way make your choices and get on with it!

I wasn't moaning about it at all Kev....... although I note that you chose to put in my comment, rather than the points made by one of the (very experienced) HOME team players who knows the table very well. >:( With all respect, it is NOT up to the Interleague Captains/Teams to start making adjustments to a Teams table when they are not the HOME team. :P Since one of the Home Teams captains seems perfectly happy with the way the table is set up....... even if (at least) one of his own players clearly isn't...... then I will be intrigued to see how the situation can be resolved if the other Home Team aren't happy and the Interleague teams who also play there are also affected? ??? For whatever reason, the table is NOT how it used to be....... but, surely it isn't rocket science to at least get it level. :P

That carpet has a lot to answer for. ;D ;D ;D But speaking as a 'neutral' who's had matches on it 'before' and 'after' I can honestly say that I haven't noticed much of a difference. As Kev says, treat it as an 'away' table, and adjust your own game to suit it, rather than expecting to adapt it to your own style of play. ;)

for the record. i myself have organised a meeting with the four team captains down hurst to decide what to do about the table this is the plan of action so far. we will not adjust the table and if we do adjust it it will not be one of the four captains touching the table i will leave it to two players who know how to set up tables. i for one am playing well on it why because i practise on the table every week. and i practise alone i dont have team mates joining me not from my league team or my interleague team except one and they know who they are. this table is still a high scoring top and unfortunatly unlike the grey hound i dont have radiators right by the table. i have tried speaking to god about getting sum heat in the uk but he ignores me and well as for the weather man there just useless.

Glad to hear that something positive is being done, hopefully the 2 people who would make any adjustments will get the table playing well for all the people who play there..... not just 1 or 2 individuals. The weather can make tables play differently, we all know that, but it certainly didn't make this sort of difference last season.
