New Table Lights are now ready. All tables drilled and ready
My thanks go to the following people whom without them there would be no new lights
AEBBA - Committee for sanctioning the proposal for a new set of lights CHRIS SAVILLE - for the many hours of work and traveling whilst making Ten light stands and repairing the light shades CHISSY NEWSON - for arranging delivery of the light shades from JERSEY My son STEVEN - for preparing and spraying the old shades that now look almost new PAUL SAINSBURY/STORMONT TRUCK & VAN LTD - for supplying the decals for the shades at no cost to AEBBA
Their first use will be at the Kent Classic in July.
I have chosen this venue in recognition of Chris Saville & Paul sainsbury.
An awesome set of light that should last for many years to come

I have recently had discussions with most officers of the association about the possible purchase of a Tenth table.
I know the last one I purchased was not quite up to scratch although it has been used many times throughout 2012 with no negative feedback (Great Job Sav).
I have been assured that this one is in tournament condition as it has been used at an Open in recent times. So should be OK. I will however go over this one with the proverbial fine tooth comb (Instructions from the officers)
I will collect a cheque from MT Friday evening on my way back from delivering tables to High Wycombe and take a trip on Saturday morning to view the table. On Sunday I will collect tables from Wycombe (During the England v Italy match) :-X So a busy weekend ahead

OK its done :) Got another table to replace the "Reading Table" 8-) A short trek to Portsmouth this morning to look it over was in my opinion well worth it.
Its just a little bit dusty but otherwise in good condition, The slate is perfect with no defects, Cloth is about same condition as most of the tables we already own. Pockets & side rails are in good condition, Came with Balls, Pegs & Scoreboard
I'm very pleased to have acquired this table as next year is a bumper year for table hire :)
When dusted down and hoovered out it will fit in very nicely.

Tables delivered to the Limes in Surrey tonight. Had a chat with Jason Wadsworth about him holding the tables securely until Friday 13th. I can then collect them on my way to Kent. By doing that it would save me around 4 hours of my time and approx £40 in fuel. He will let me know before Sunday.

My thanks to Jason for helping out with the tables.
Just to update things. The delivery to Kent for the Kent classic went OK. The tables were set up very well for the day, big breaks were made on all tables which just goes to show, If you set them up right the tables are perfect with no defects.
My delivery to Princes Risborough for the Bucks Open was not so sweet for me as I could not get into the venue on the Saturday. This meant I had to leave my house at 5.30 on Sunday morning to deliver the tables, I had a good run as it was so early in the morning, arriving at the venue at 6.30, the Bucks helpers started to arrive at 6.50 to unload and set up the tables. After playing and losing two matches I spent my time walking the golf coarse with my camera, after the event finished the tables were loaded and I reached home at 10.30.
Although a very long day it was still enjoyable with lots of socializing.
Well done to all those involved in running both the Kent Classic and the Bucks Open

Spent today taking 6 tables down to Great Mongeham (Kent)
I can now understand why Sav doesn't play the 'opens' anymore, such a long journey.
Chris will recover the tables ready for the 'Berks Open' on September 9th, He will arrive at 8am on the sunday to help set up the tables.
My thanks to Sav as always

Delivery season under way. First one was the Salfords Club in Surrey. Told the tables played well. May be a problem with the truck as it seems to have no power once it has reached 50mph Otherwise a good run without any delays

Hi All
It has been somewhat of a poor year for me in relation to running the Association. That business has been left to Chris Saville and the rest of the Officers.
My eternal thanks and gratitude to Chris for everything he has done and achieved thus far this year, as well as the private in-keeping.
Issues being resolved means I can at least concentrate on my duties for the rest of the year.
With the national competitions upon us, it gonna be another busy end of year, and hopefully with the competition arrangement for this year, the scheduling won't be such a headache for Nigel.
My thanks to BRIAN DAWKINS (Berks) for the enormous amount of work he has done on the truck, a full 3 days work to get the truck roadworthy before the next MOT.
I cannot put into words the amount of gratitude i have for PAUL SAINSBURY. I have had the pleasure of playing along side him in the same team for many years now, a true gentleman, a passionate supporter of bar billiards, yet i am still in awe of his recent generosity given to the Association, A donation of £1000 towards the cost of truck repairs, without the support given by Paul and Storemont Trucks each year the Association would not be where it is today.
We cannot however continue to rely on such generosity from one person or company, and therefor must find support from others, we must explore other avenues to raise enough funds to not only keep the Association running but to replace the truck within 3 years, Phil and Myra Hawkins has already started to get sponsors for the national tables.

I have spent some time preparing the truck for weight bridge, all dead weight has been removed leaving just the essentials of eight(8) tables plus accessories.
I will try and weight the truck on Saturday morning as work dictating this week as well as having to attend a wedding on Friday afternoon

I have tried to contact all local companies with weighbridge, No luck as all are closed on Saturdays
My only regret is not trying sooner, but as I now know where they are I CAN sort it sooner rather than later.
I did speak to Brian Dawkins and he reckons we are no where near the limit with only Eight tables, Hope he's right.
Truck is driving really well and feels a lot more solid.

Cheers Dave,
Please make sure it's weighed next week.
I don't think Brian is correct on that as eight tables weighs a ton in my book and the truck maximum payload will not be a great deal higher than that.

I had a very long conversation today with Phil Hawkins. as usual Phil has a bee in his bonnet about events that seem to happen without his knowledge or anything discussed on this forum before ever being discussed firstly by the AEBBA committee.
I find it difficult to explain things to someone who although feels very strongly that things need to be done in a right and proper manner, doesn't seem to grasp the big picture, he finds it troublesome when people interfere with or want to make rule changes to allow different forms of Bar Billiards to be played or recognized.
He see's no reason for changing 4-pin rules to allow ranking points to be awarded, or even to become Affiliated to the Association. Phil has said JERSEY play under Jersey rules and we do not interfere with or try to change them, yet it is a ranking competition, he feels that the 4-pin version should be left as is and not to interfere with it.
He say's he has had e-mails from various people about this and he is now fed up with the whole thing.
He has asked me to let the committee know that he wishes to stand down as Chairman at the AGM
I have always had ups and downs(more downs) when talking things over with Phil, however, he may be a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to bringing everything up to date but he has always put the best interest of our game first.

I had a very long conversation today with Phil Hawkins. as usual Phil has a bee in his bonnet about events that seem to happen without his knowledge or anything discussed on this forum before ever being discussed firstly by the AEBBA committee. Hopefully, Phil will understand that there is nothing wrong with "discussion" about Rules or new ideas for the game that are raised on the Forum, that is nothing more than happens in many pubs and clubs around the country on probably many occasions every year! The Forum is a great place to provide information and to discuss things about the game.... however it does NOT change any of the Rules of the game or approve new suggestions, it is only a sounding board that allows people to air their thoughts. From that point of view, I would have thought that the AEBBA Committee should welcome the input from the Forum and I am sure that some of the ideas raised here are discussed at their meetings.... with the resulting proposals going forward to the AEBBA AGM, which is the ONLY way that these ideas can become a part of the game in the future.

The forum is great for those that use it.
It should not be thought of as something that any officer of the AEBBA must use regarding rules or other important matters.
It is a media forum not a decision forum.
Let's ensure we remember what the forum is for.
Let's remember who has supported setting all the tables in Reading the last few years for AEBBA events - Phil ... Are you going to as I am not ???
Who turns up to all events in Reading - Phil and there at the end - Phil
So whom is doing this after him???
Yes with Dave Alder and family being the major workers here

Once again several of us take the opportunity to state what purpose we think the Forum serves.
My own theory (right or wrong) is that it is the official mouthpiece for the AEBBA as the AEBBA is a static vehicle and the Forum brings us all together for discussion and exchange of information.
Unfortunately, not all the AEBBA officials are members of the Forum, and it is of course any person's right to refuse to have anything to do with it. However others use it to make things happen (for example Bournemouth) as otherwise the logistics would be too much of a chore - that's fine too.
There are as many non-members than members who regularly view in to keep themselves clued in with what is going on. So you could say that the Forum is all things to all men/women.
However, unfortunately the Forum also attracts negative vibes from those who don't use it. One of our rules of etiquette is for personae non gratis not to be allowed to use it for "proxy posts." Not saying that anyone has been banned here, but if anyone has something important to say, then they should come on here and say it themselves: Not to do so denies our members the basic right to engage in discussion and offer an opinion.
