I have written a letter of apology to Maxi McDonnell which I will be handing to Dennis Atkins at tommorrows meeting.
Maxi was treated unfairly and deserves at the very least an apology from the AEBBA committee

AEBBA Committee Meeting 21st March-Post Office Club Reading
present: Dave Alder-Dennis Atkins-Phil Hawkins-Mark Trafford and Eric Hill
The following was discussed
MAXI McDONNELL: Because of the fiasco in Bournemouth, it was agreed by all committee members to send a letter of apology to Maxi
TABLE FUND/PURCHASE: These discussions are on going
COMMITTEE MEMBERS: A discussion on the lack of cohesion from the committee and little support for the secretary was highest on the agenda. More effort and communication between all members will improve considerably and should be benificial to the association
BOURNEMOUTH ACCOUNTS: These accounts are almost ready and should be released within 2 weeks.
NEW COMPETITION: The viability of a new competition was discussed with favourable results, more details soon
WEBSITES: It was agreed that any expense to upgrade the existing site will be met by the association, It was also agreed that links with British Bar Billiards website be encouraged and not frowned upon.
COLLECTING PLEDGES: AEBBA Treasurer Mark Trafford will begin the process of collecting pledges for the competition tables, beginning at the Portsmouth Open
SECRETARY: The secretary has agreed after a long discussion to continue for the forseeable future
Meeting Closed

A meeting will take place at the post office club on 23rd august 2009 at 12.30pm. This meeting is for everyone who has pledged to help AEBBA purchase tables. Almost everything is in place ready for the takeover. Anyone who may be thinking of making a pledge but are not quite sure should come to the meeting also.

Had a bit of a rant today ??? ??? Then discovered a thread thanking everyone for what they did throughout the year ::) Boy do i feel sheepish :-[ :-[ :-[ Anyway Xmas is coming ;D My favourite time of the year ;D listening to the kids opening their stockings in a quiet yet noisely fashion so as to wake up the whole household :) even though its only three in the morning ::) and i've been in bed two hours because i've had to stay up that late to put up decorations and fill the stockings to put on the beds ??? Then being woken up again after falling into a shallow slumber at 5 o'clock so Daddy can have breakfast with the little ones >:( >:( spending the rest of xmas day in a haze somewhere between reality and noddy land ;D bless their cotton socks ;) ;D

Well this didn't really work very well at all for me this year. stopped writing but never stopped working.
I'll do my best to rekindle this flame and put more postings of what goes on behind the scene's.
since my last post there has been a number of changes for the AEBBA.
1) AEBBA has purchased competition tables to enable us to continue with National Competitions as well as Local ones. 2) AEBBA NEWSLETTER provided periodically by Nigel Senior and his Team given full recognition from the Association 3) AEBBA secretary and British Bar Billiards Forum joining forces to better improve relations between the Association and players/Counties/Secretaries 4) Rankings produced by Nigel Senior and his team given recognition by the Association 5) Some AEBBA competitions brought forwad to July/August to releive pressure from intense schedule between Sep & Dec 6) I am one year older ;D

I think you can with a certain amount of confidence add that you have gained recognition from the bar billiards world for having worked your socks off to make the table hire and supply work, getting personally involved in a hands-on capacity, Dave. Simon Ellam and helpers from your own family also deserve a big pat on the back.

Dave, this is worth looking into - I saw the first series and it was good fun, with Paddy and Rory looking into pastimes across the country fro nettle eating to pub cricket. I always though Bar Billiards would be right up their street....it would be great coverage for the game.

warmed up for the national competition season by running Berks Open yesterday, although there were only 49 entries the day ran ok, a couple of not so perfect tables but nobody comlained so I guess most were happy. Congrats to KT on another fine win.
Got round to paying in the last few table hire cheques today as Berks was last of the year.

The cancellation of a party at the post office club meant I was able to set up the tables today. Nigel has since sent me a message to say the format is based on 9 tables. So tommorrow I will set up the 9th table. A quick thank you to my 2 girls Kay and Deedee for thier help today as Sam was working.

I thought yeserday went very well. A slow start due to me wanting to make sure tables were level. As it was there were a couple of tricky ones, So I will try and get someone else to check them before the start.
My thanks to Dave Tooke for his efforts to level tables and thanks to Sam, Phil & Myra, Ron & Eileen, Kay & Kat and anyone else I may have forgot. There help was much apreciated.
I have just put the finishing touches to yesterdays format & have sent it to Nigel & Dave Ingram.

Great day yesterday at the Ladies county champs and men's Individuals. A superb day of bar billiards and socializing mayhem. something of which we tend to forget about at these events. Its great to play bar billiards and just as great to socialize. especially when its ladies day ;D ;D
Congrats to Curt Driver of Kent on becoming the men's Individual champion for 2011 :) Also congrats to Simon Coleman from Northants for reaching the final.
For the Ladies its Sussex A for Div 1 and Surrey B for Div 2 receiving the congrats for for their respective wins
Commiserations to Berks after suffering relegation into Div 2 :(
Tables were very good and no complaints of any significance. Even Ros was impressed :)
Phone call from Treasurer Mark Trafford regarding the accounts file I sent to him recently. It appears I can't add up correctly (even when using the functions provided by my excel spreadsheet) :-X Still the outcome was pretty good as It seems he owes me money ;D ;D ;D
I've also sent Completed format of Sundays Competitions to Nigel, Tony and Dave.

A few phone calls and text messages today has boosted the entry list for Sundays alternate rules competition :)
Also received a call from Nobby(Post Club) to say I have access to the club tonight or tomorrow to set up the tables. Tonight is better for me so I will do them then. I guess as long as the tables are flat and level it don't matter about the break ;D ;D ;D

Spent 2-1/2 hours at the PO club last night setting up and leveling the tables.
My thanks to Sam, Kelly(12), Deedee(8), and Lewis(6, well almost) for helping in their own special ways. ;) ;D
My very special thanks also to my wife Diana for making the rolls for today's event :-* :-* Leaving now to check the tables as they have settled overnight so may need tweaking, and the white spots need to be added.
Good luck to all players and hope the day goes well

Another couple of hours spent repairing the lights. I really do think the time has come to replace the lights with a complete new set. I don't have the mind of an engineer so can't really decide on the best way forward. I shall need some help with the design of a new set, even though the old design worked well it had the capacity for failure on a regular basis as do the current design. Something to work on for the future I think.

With regards to the table lights, Pete Ewins has been in touch to recommend a friend of a friend who has made table lights for the Oxford Association, He will send details to me and I will look into the possibility of replacing our current set

Good plan David, those lights are not brilliant. I still have a couple of my lights with the rectangular aluminium shades which could be used as a pattern. They need a better means of fixing to the back of the table though. I found brass fittings like THESE which are more durable and conduct heat when a sensible sized bulb is used. Sav

Thanks for the info Sav. I have just scanned E-Bay and found them for £2 each +Postage, I think I may have a few of these in the tool box at the club, I'll check that out when I'm there on the 23rd 8-) My only reservation with the brass fittings is the ability for others to screw them up tight before switching on ::) Thus when heat is added they expand to the point of seizure :'( Educating the wise is at best futile :-X ;) ;D

It's been a while since i last posted due to no Internet access.
I must congratulate all the following on their respective wins
Sussex Hotel for winning the Team Championships after a great final against Cav WMC.
Myra Hawkins for winning the Special Ladies
Bernie McCluskey and Paul Sainsbury for winning the World Championship Pairs in Jersey
Kevin Tunstall on becoming the World Champion
Sussex (B) for winning today's Division 2 county Champs, Beating Surrey by 1 point
Great day today, some good bar billiards played, Sussex racking up a huge total of 232,490 and surrey a close second with 202,420. Highest break going to Lorin Clough (Northants) with 14,540 His only win of the day but well deserved.
Everyone whom attended today can give themselves a huge pat on the back for keeping to the schedule on time for the whole day, can't remember that happening before.
Remember the AGM is approaching fast, That means dinner at 12-12.30 after the selection meeting at 11. Diana and I are looking forward to the Xmas dinner so hopefully we will see you there
Mixed pairs were canceled for a second time this year due to lack of numbers for whatever reason. I have sent next years diary dates to Nigel for a second opinion. I am hoping to put the mixed pairs back with the Over 60s to avoid any cancellation next year, I have also moved it back to October. Lets hope it works next year
