Unless it got changed at the last AGM, but I don't think it did.

Ambiguous Keith!!!! Is that the current year ie 2010 or the current season year 2009 - 2010 I could read that as being last Sept or Sept coming, the latter would make more sense otherwise you could have an over 50's winner (on July 25th 2010) who isn't actually 50 until Aug 30th

Not ambiguous, as at 1st September of the current year, 2010.
Thus with the new competition dates a 49 year old could win the over 50 and an under 25 could be excluded from playing in the under 25's if their 25th birthday falls in August.
Was pointed out at the AGM, but the age rule could not be changed as there had been no proposition. No one realised in advance the dates were to be changed.

Changing the date of the tournament was always going to cause upset and confusion, so I can't see why it's not changed to whenever the date of the tournament is, ie; if you are born on or before the day then you are eligible to take part in that particular competition.
It was a shame that no one knew before the AGM that this was going to be moved to a different date, then we could have proposed a change of rule, but even so on this occasion I think common sense should prevail and the rule stated above be brought in from now.

Can't change the rule book Keith.
The original rule was age as at Jan 1st in the year of competitions, which meant ten months before the competition was played and caused confusion. This was clarified to September 1st which was considered the start of the AEBBA season.
The 2010-11 seniors is effectively being played in the same season as the last one in late autumn 2009. It's being played out of season. If the date had been changed from November 2010 it should have been later in next season.
It does not help that the AGM is at Christmas in the middle of the AEBBA season. It would make sense to me for the AGM to be held around September 1st at the start of the AEBBA season.
With the dates being spread around, which makes sense now the tables are based at Reading, it would also make sense to redefine the AEBBA season and qualification dates.

Definitely something to propose at the AEBBA AGM as it would cover it regardless of the date of the competition each year..... 8-) Yes you are eligible, now you are officially an 'Old Git' ;D Glad to hear that there are some benefits to it...... ::) ;D ;D

I reckon it's fatuous having an over-50s competition in this day and age when 75% of bar billiards players are over 50 anyway.
The percentage was probably 25% when it was originally commissioned.
IMHO it should be replaced with an Under 50's, as these people are now being discriminated against.
(An over 60s still makes sense, btw.)

I reckon it's fatuous having an over-50s competition fat·u·ous [ fáchoo əss ] adjective Definition: unintelligent: showing a lack of intelligence or thought combined with complacency.
Just to clarify this is not a reference to the average girth of an over 50's bar billiard player ;D Sav

Steven is unavailable to try to retain his Under 25 title and will not be able to enter it in the future, as he will be 25 early next year.
So Steven will stay on 6 wins for this. 8-)

Hi Dave
Can I ask a couple of questions please...
Is the start time 11am? Something changed re start times at the last AGM I think or have I imagined this?
What sort of food will be available on the day, as looking at the list there appears to be limited numbers of people? I do appreciate that the club go to a great deal of time and trouble to prepare food and then it is not taken up when numbers are low.
Is this going ahead regardless of the number of entrants shown on here? or is there a minimum to ensure viability of the competition itself? :-/
Many thanks Chris :) :-*
