Think Neil right and they are all still around some playing, others unfortunately now not partaking of the game. A strong line up in those days, and by the way Steve still has deep pockets.

Think I'd have to agree with Tommo, that front left is John Babbage. Don't know the others though.

I think the chap standing next to Dipper with the tash, is Nigel (knocker) Slade.

Well done Dave yes it is Nigel Slade, the ones you have got correct between you are from the left back row, Frank Sumner, Ray Osbourne, forth from the left is Nigel Slade, then Roger Taylor, front row from the left is John Babbage. Three to go keep trying, Clive you know the player far right at the back from the Billingshurst league. The other two are Littlehampton players one a former Sussex Champion, the other a former Littlehampton singles Champion.

i'm probably wrong, but 3rd from left back row looks like Gary 'penfold' Evans, and the front right looks like Phil Oakley.

I must say you've set a good puzzle here, Roger. Picture must be from the 70's judging by the flares, beards and slim physiques !
Back right, surely that's not a Noakes nor a Merriott ? The name Joe Stempien seems to ring a bell.
I would have guessed Bill Sensier for the one in glasses but he doesn't look tall enough.
Some names I have from your Littlehampton line-up of that era include V.Ryan, G.Pound and B.Norrell, but I'm struggling to put faces to names.

Agree with you Tommo. I'm pretty sure it's a picture from the 70's. I remember Roger playing for Sussex about that time. I know Roger played one year and Bill Sensier played the following year, Roger will know. I think also the photo may well have been taken in Southend :-/. Roger will also remember that coming back his car windscreen was hit and shattered and we had to wait for the repair service to come and repair it.

Clive is correct with Joe Stempien, and Vinny Ryan is front right. Only one left, I will give my last clue, Dave may get it this time, third from the left with glasses used to play for the Labour club in Wick, has won the Littlehampton singles, and played in the same team as Pat Williams and her husband( whose name escapes me). This picture was taken at the Labour club on presentation night the year Littlhampton first won the Inter-league division one, and yes Dave it was more likely to be the late 70`s.

Okay, with just one of Dipper's team to get, here's another photo of Dipper, this time greeting the Horsham Interleague team of the mid 1980s. How many can you name? (some are easier than others !)

I can only get the easy ones! A long haired Tommo shaking hands with Roger. John Slee to his left and Tony Franks on the far right

Yes, Dave, four to get. Photo was taken in the Green Dragon. Chap standing between me and Rog has just sadly passed on earlier this year. He used to play with a golden cue.

Yes, Dun has 'em all. Jim Morley was an unsung hero, unstoppable on the Dragon top.
In those days the Green Dragon was a real 'spit and sawdust' pub, and I once saw Jim pick up a sausage roll that he had dropped on the floor from amongst the dog-ends and pop it into his mouth. :o :o :o
Mr Mike is fond of relating the incident involving Jim, the fruit machine and a soft porn star named Philippa. :-X :-X

Rod Tarratt wins the inaugural (1970/71) Sussex Champion-of-Champions Cup - a competition which ran until 2001/02.

Shame its not still being played for Clive, it was a great competition as you had to win your own leagues singles before you could qualify. I wonder where the trophy is, who won it the last time it was held and what year.

Last played for in 2001/02, Roger, with John Slee of Horsham beating a youthful Nigel Senior of Brighton. This broke a Mariner-Millward-Lloyd grip that there had been on the trophy since 1993. The year prior to that you fought out the final with Chris Tupper, I have an idea that he was a 'nomination' rather than the Brighton champion that year. The ladies packed up a year early, Jean Over was the last winner, in 2000/01, over the late Gina Sherratt.
A great event, I agree.

Tommo Don't put pictures of Gerry McCarthy on here please, you know it upsets me. I also enjoyed the Champion of Champions. In 2000 I achieved the shock result, before being raped by Mr Lloyd aka Mighty Mike Van Guerwin, again. Shaun

This is fun........we should start a new thread entitled "I played in the Sussex Champion of Champions in .... year" !
Have checked out your info, Shaun, and you won the M-S singles either side of 2000 so I'm not sure in which year you played "Van Guerwin" but it wasn't in the final !
You won Mid Sussex in 1997/8 and 1998/9 and then against me (ba$tard !) in 2001/2.
