The first leg was played at the Con Club on 7/9 and Wallingford won 4-1 second leg is next Wednesday at the Admiral.
I will speak to Denis to see where the result card has gone?

Hi Colin Don't worry - captains only send the result card to me after the second leg. It's only Mark being impatient.... ;D ;D Some teams (and I wish all of them would) put the result on here in the interim. cheers Tony

Unfortunately if opponents play at the scheduled venue just a short time before such an important match then it is not unreasonable to change the venues. It is unfortunate that the venue should need to be changed at all let alone at the 11th hour.

Colin ::) Hi Colin, I know there's nothing in the rules about changing venues but are you saying that in the 24hrs or so from Mark receiving the 1st text that one of the Oxford A players played at the DCC, if so, may I ask who it was and what in? It is unfortunate that the venue should need to be changed at all let alone at the 11th hour. Colin ::) Considering that two of our players play from Didcot CC anyway, this seems a strange response! If you are talking about me playing there last Thursday, then i spoke to our competition secretary about changing the venue, but he responded by saying that when he played against Didcot CC in the league on 27th October, he was told by the Wallingford A captain that the game would definitely NOT be played at Didcot CC, so there was no need to change! Come on guys, this is the Final of our Inter Area and all this is totally unnecessary.
Mark was aware that I was not happy about him playing at DCC so soon before the match and he made every effort to get his pairs game venue changed by Alan Oliver, which was not done because Alan was told and believed that the table would not be used for the Inter Area game.
Rule 13 of the IABBA rules (which by entering all teams subscribe to) reads; 13. Unless playing in a local league fixture, no away player may practice on the table being used for the Inter-Area match during the period of four weeks prior to the match. Infringement will render the player disqualified from taking part in that match.
Possibly that rule is open to interpretation, but now is not the time to discuss that.
Wallingford are within the rules to change venues if they feel that their home advantage is compromised and by doing so have actually helped Oxford by taking away the possibility of any action being taken against them by the IABBA committee.
Everyone to date has behaved properly so let's keep it that way and enjoy the Final. Let's have a good, close, friendly game as we have come to expect from these two excellent teams ;D ;D
Again good luck to both teams...
Tony

Apologies if I have upset anyone, but I felt that some form of response was required to the comments about the change of venue.
I did not mean that someone had played there within the last 24 hours, I am certainly not aware that is the case. I am merely saying that for one reason or another matches have been played on the table within the last two weeks or so and that this was not apparent when the first message was sent out, and once it was realised that this may give some advantage to the other team it was decided that the venue should be altered.
I am sure that Oxford A would feel the same should players from Wallingford A play at the Kennington in the run up to the return leg next week.
I am in no way saying that anyone was trying to gain any form of advantage and would not wish anyone to take offence at my remarks and once again I apologise if that is the case.
Good luck to both teams tonight, unfortunately I will not be there to cheer on Wallingford.

Wallingford A 4-1 Oxford A No scores to hand, but from memory about 25k up Thanks Mark. Hmmm...that should make for an interesting game at Kennington then! I assume Wallingford up on aggregate? (edit - I've realised how stupid this last question is.. ;D ;D) Tony

I know Kevin Godfrey won Oxford's lone point and that Leon went in with 10,000 with Steven replying with 7,000 in the 1st game.
Can't wait to see the full run down of events, eh Mark! ;)
Phil Collins didn't play either!

It looks as if I'm going to have to wait until Tony receives the result card of both legs before I know the scores of the 1st leg of the FINAL. :(
Anyway, good luck from me to Oxford A this Friday at Kennington in their bid to overturn a 4-1 deficit...it should be a cracker!

Very many congratulations to Wallingford A on taking the NBBA Challenge Cup from Oxford A. Oxford won 3-2 last night but Wallingford won 6-4 over the two legs with Mark Turner and Joe O'Farrell taking the crucial legs at Kennington. Scores and report to follow later....
