Top of the shop TV Thunderbirds Way ahead of its time......Thunderbird 5 = SpaceLab, Thunderbird 1 = Harrier Jump Jet, Thunderbird 2 with its bulbous nose = Nimrod, The Mole = digging equipment now used for tunnelling motorway routes, Fireflash = Concorde. Brains = early-days Elton John, and Parker = Noel Gallagher of Oasis. Very prophetic.

The drawing of partners was Saterday before last Clive If that's the case we'll be giving tomorrow a miss: two hours and 25 minutes of it a bit much for the first week...... 5 mins of it a bit much for me

8.25 Atlantis (by same makers of Merlin) Spectacular production but extremely annoying to myself as loads of Greek myths are all mixed in together: I call it "pidgin mythology". 1. The minotaur was associated with the island of Crete, not Atlantis which would have been at the opposite end of the Med at the very least. 2. It was Theseus (cousin of Hercules) who slew the Minotaur, not Jason - he slew a dragon to gain the Golden Fleece. 3. Pythagoras was a real person, so would not have been around at the time. 4. The Hercules portrayed by Mark Addy is too much of a jolly fat fellow hardly capable of the enormous trials of strength put before the real Hercules.....he has a twinkle in his eye, and I keep expecting him to take his clothes off like he did in The Full Monty. Not very helpful for students of the classics preparing to sit their exams.......

He did seem a particularly objectionable bloke - I can't believe he did that!! I'm sure the TV company analyses their profiles and put the wimps on last! There's some brilliant quotes in that article Clive!! Tony

Anyone watching Peaky Blinders on BBC2? Really good drama about post-WW1 gangs and gambling cartels in Birmingham - bit violent sometimes but excellent acting and atmosphere....
Worth a look if you like a bit of intelligent grit in your telly....

There's some brilliant quotes in that article Clive!! Tony Indeed, "Basically, I hit him because I was jealous. Obviously, I've got problems with alcohol and anger, which I need to deal with. I was jealous because he was dancing with her — maybe I was also a bit jealous because he's the world No. 3 and I'm the world number two hundred and something."......and you can just imagine the consequences: "The British player was beaten up by Mr Aronian's colleagues the following day, before leaving the tournament voluntarily." It wouldn't happen in such a civilised game as ours !

Following on with the comedy theme, tommo's top ten would be (in no particular order):
Blackadder Fawlty Towers Some Mother Do 'Ave 'Em Steptoe And Son Red Dwarf One Foot In The Grave Rising Damp 'Allo 'Allo The Good Life Only Fools And Horses

Currently 'hooked' on watching repeats of The Vice each weekday on ITV3 11pm-12.45am. Starring Ken Stott who usually goes undercover (- and doesn't always resist the temptation to sample the goods himself ! ). And the very pretty Caroline Catz who played Doc Martin's schoolteacher love interest. She was also good as a policewoman in Murder In Suburbia.

Great Guitar Riffs at the BBC.......missed it last Friday, but just watched it on BBCi viewer.
Some rare footage of old favourites like the Shadows, Hendrix, Clapton, Peter Frampton. Slight sag in the middle The Smiths, Stone Roses (always thought they were overrated). Then picks up again right through to the end with the Pixies, AC/DC, Radiohead, Foo Fighters. Even found myself liking Rage Against The Machine !

Sad that Not Going Out (starring Lee Mack) seems to have reached the end of the line after 7 series.......but that final episode last night had everything.........Excellent cameo from Phil Cornwell (he of Stella Street) as the police sergeant: Lee and his dad (Bobby Ball) wake up in a police cell after the stag night and Phil gives them a shock by greeting them dressed as a Spaniard and with the accent !

BBC 2 tonight, eight o'clock: Part 2 of Top Gear Patagonia special. Our heroes get unceremoniously chased out of Argentina. Top Gear was going from strength to strength (did you see it a couple of weeks ago when Hammond had to be rescued from half way up a mountain in the rockies ?) Hopefully this latest thing with Clarkson will blow over and he will be reinstated..........keeping a man from his nice hot fillet steak with mushrooms and peppercorn sauce was unforgivable !

Yeah, the sort of stuff I like too: atmospheric, mystical, twist in the tale. This one was good over Christmas: www.imdb.com/title/tt3169754/A re-working of an old story that terrified me as a youngster ! Compulsory TV Viewing for me at the moment: 1. Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares (each weekday); 2. re-runs of Men Behaving Badly (Friday nights).
