I have to have my daily fix of the 1990's re-runs of The Crystal Maze, 6pm every weekday on the Freeview station Challenge TV. Lloydy's a big fan too.
Six contestants (three male, three female) are put through their paces in four different zones in facing challenges which are either mental , physical, skill-based, or mysteries - to win a crystal. Some of the challenges are ridiculously difficult, and some the contestants fall down on through not latching on to a concept quick enough. Some of the challenges seem to contravene modern-day standards of health and safety. :o
There were four or five series, the first few with Richard O'Brien (of Rocky Horror fame) as the master of ceremonies, and in the last few his place was taken by Ed Tudor-Pole. Both equally good, Richard's campness v Ed's flamboyance !
Here's a sampler, from YouTube:

Great show this Tommo, was more a fan of the O'Brien era, and although some of the puzzles were fiendishly difficult, the contestants didnt always seem the brightest as illustrated by the youtube clip!!

Anyone catch last night's episode of Top Gear ? The billing..............
"The team uses caravans to attempt to make train travel cheaper, faster and more interesting, replacing the locomotive with a specially modified car and carriages."
When Clarkson, following the first train, was confronted with the chap sitting on the outside toilet reading the newspaper I laughed so much I fell off my chair ! ;D

Nothing wrong with Dragons, we made the final of this years Billingshurst Jubilee Cup. :P
However, if you're talking Witches, I've known a few of those, even been out with a few (the most malevolent being my first wife). ;D ;D
The programme - brilliant, meticulous production. As Tony says, tongue-in-cheek, especially the 'towel-flapping' chemistry between Arthur and Merlin. And Victor Meldrew thrown in for good measure, along with some good baddies. 8-)
My main beef is on the representation of the castle, an elaborate Norman design not known until the days of William the Conqueror. Arthur was supposed to have lived in the Dark Ages, so Camelot may well have risen out of the Somerset levels but is more likely to have been more (square) fort-like in construction. ::)

Mrs Brown's Boys - on Friday nights 11pm, just before the National Lottery. Echoes of Old Mother Riley. Hilarious. ;D Now showing again, 10.30pm on Saturday nights just after the National Lottery. Series was only conceived in 2011. Humour is rather on the smutty side, but you get a good old belly laugh, all too rare these days. ::)

A brand new series (X) of Red Dwarf starts in a couple of minutes (9pm on Dave). 8-) 8-) 8-)
Smoke me a kipper........ ;D
Post programme note: Absolutely brilliant, Rimmer meets an alter ego character accompanied by the rather tasty but psychotic Lt Crawford played by Susan Earl. :-* After the inevitable fracas, she finishes up as Lister's personal servant stirring his drinks. One really good new euphemism: "smaller than the salad section in a Scottish supermarket". ;D

For any of us retired codgers, the five-part drama Nick Nickleby (BBC1 @ 2.15pm all this week) is worth a look.
Brought up to date and set in London and Yorkshire, considerable poetic license has been taken from the Dickens novel:
Instead of an approved school, Wackford Squeers runs a retirement home (with a rod of iron) and Smike has become old Mrs Smike whom Nick helps to escape.
Didn't think I was going to like such an act of sacrilege, but the characters are full of humour (Nick's mum perpetually getting in the way of a paedo's designs on Nick's sister, Nick fending off Squeers's sex-mad daughter as well as an older lady who puts them up in her mobile home whilst they're on the run, etc).
The plot moves forward well and parts of it are distressing, so maybe after all it's a good nod to Dickens.

Episode 7 of 10 last night.......George Duke of Clarence is drowned in a vat of Malmsey wine, his chosen method when sentenced to death by his elder brother the king. Apparently 25 million was spent on the production, and most of the scenes were shot in Belgium. I now have the three Philippa Gregory books in the queue to read afterwards.

Puzzled Historically quite accurate as far as I can tell but I've always thought it a very confusing period in English history.... Tony

Tony Yes indeed, I think Edward IV is unique in having had the throne taken away from him (1470) and then getting it back (1471). The three Philippa Gregory books centre around three strong female figures of the time: Margaret of Anjou (The Red Queen), Elizabeth Woodville (The White Queen) and Anne Neville (The Kingmaker's Daughter). Back in the late 1970s an excellent board game was brought out called Kingmaker, all about the protagonists of the Wars of the Roses: I remember buying it for my sister as a Christmas present. She still owns it in excellent condition and these days it is very rare and commands prices in excess of £60 on Amazon and eBay. However I've just managed to land a copy for £29 !
