www.lesrocquettesguernsey.com/After the feedback recieved from this years open. The Guernsey open will now be held at the fantastic Les Roquettes Hotel. The Hotel and bar are excelent. It also has a fantastic health suite. It is situated within walking distance of the main town and only a 5min walk to the very popular Doghouse. We have managed to secure some rooms (well Gary Naftel did). The hotel are also willing to do some deals on people wishing to stay for a few days. There will be some more details to follow on prices etc. i have though added a link to their website for you to review

I agree, the hotel looks excellent and it will be nice to be near the Capital city of St Peter Port.
As Dave has said the date and special deals would be nice to know, so we can book early and not have a ten minute walk in the dark to the venue!!
Keith ::) 8-) ;)

As you all know, Rocquettes Hotel will host the 2011 Guernsey Open. This is a promising venue considering the standard and facilities on offer. Indoor pool, gym, dining room or bar area and the rooms are a full notch up from previous experiences. This is a busy hotel / bar within easy walking distance of town for a bit of VAT free shopping.
We have booked the Johnson suite which is a single large room with its own bar, toilets and direct link into the main bar. There is plenty of room for the tables and spectators and this promises to create a fantastic atmosphere during the weekend.
Hope you all will consider joining us at the Rocquettes Hotel. We will obviously post more information closer to the date but early booking or confirmation of attendence will be helpful for our preparations.
Cheers

In addition to the Guernsey Open being held on the Sunday, we are considering organisation of a pairs knockout competition during saturday. The pairs knockout would operate between 11am and have to be completed by 6pm for the Jersey V Guernsey match later that evening.
The idea of running a knockout competition is to make the trip more worth while for UK / Jersey players.
At the moment there is some concerns that a pairs knockout would not interest enough players therefore i would ask you to register your interest on this thread so we can guage the level of interest from players considering a weekend trip.

This is really addressed to Gary (GBGuernsey).
Gary, the ideal arrangement from the point of view of us mainlanders would be to have, besides the Open, the Guernsey v England International and your own 'Masters', a 'B' International.
This could not be fitted in last year for some reason.
I very much enjoyed the spectacle of the 'A' International last year, one of the Pairs matches in particular involving the Sainsbury brothers, which I scored.
So I would say that in a way, Mens Doubles is already catered for - as part of the International setup. But you could latch on to the idea of the 'World Championship Mixed Doubles' hosted in Guernsey as a) it would be plugging a gap in the rollcall of competitions, and b) as Ros says, provide an extra incentive to make it over to Guernsey in May. Margo and I would certainly be up for it.

Re possible World Mixed Pairs Doubles
We would love to enter but....
We are this year thinking of coming to Guernsey by boat on the chug chug from Portsmouth.(following yet again a horrendous flight for Mr Chris back from Jersey sitting on the runway for over an hour took its toll) and not fast-cat... but we could look at fastcat out and chug chug back. We also want to go to the races L'ancresse on the Monday and then back by boat late evening, as we would get back at 6.30am and then have to go to work and have only booked care provision so far for the Saturday to Monday. So it maybe to get a deal we have to do chug chug out and back. If we come out by Chug Chug Saturday we would get there 4pm and be available from 5pm at the earliest, which is too late and we understand why.
We are interested but will be dependent on timings.
Regards Chris's

Re possible World Mixed Pairs Doubles ... but we could look at fastcat out and chug chug back. We are interested but will be dependent on timings. Regards Chris's That's your best bet, Chris. From memory we got a 9am Saturday sailing from Weymouth this year and the voyage (in brilliant sunshine) only took 2 and a quarter hours. So we were there by midday, plenty of time to chill out and relax, have dinner etc before going on to spectate the International in the evening. For the passage back on the Monday there was a choice - Weymouth or Poole, and we chose Poole as it was an afternoon sailing rather than evening. I know that living in Portsmouth it would make sense for you to journey from there, but if Mr Chris doesn't travel well he'd enjoy the HiSpeedCat better than the extended time on the chug-chug with its pitch and roll. ;)

Are there enough ladies going to make it a decent entry for a mixed pairs? With the main competition being 95% men, surely that would mean that most of them won't get a partner for a mixed pairs competition
I think a pairs competition would be more logical, not sure how it would work around the international which is every two years, but anything that add to what already is a cracking weekend would be great

Hi everyone! We have decided that there is enough interest for a pairs competition; thanks for all the feedback! - It will be held on Saturday 30th of April, and will be a normal pairs competition (not mixed).
- We will be aiming for a 12:00 start time, although this may slightly vary depending on how many entries we get...
- There will be cash prizes for the winner and runner up.
- £10 entry per pair.
You can get a pairs entry form here. - Luke

Thanks Norman,
From the point of view of the two Chrisses, it's a shame you are unable to make it in time for the first-ever Guernsey Pairs. Margo and I have a 5am sailing on the Hi-speed Catamaran from Weymouth, which only takes 2 hours. The ferry company allow you to 'mix and match' - if we wanted to we could come back on the chug-chug to Pompey. They might allow you to transfer sailings, which would then mean you could take part in the competition! ;) I know it sounds inconvenient having to get round to Weymouth when living in Pompey - but hey! we live two miles away from Gatwick!! :D

Observations.......................
1. A little over 40 entries so far for the Open (Singles), you could do with another couple of dozen.
2. More interest shown by Jersey players this time - good to see.
3. Mainland entries mainly from just two counties (Sussex and Oxon) - will try to whip up some enthusiasm from Surrey.
Looking forward to it.

There are still a few Guernsey boys left to enter and I also see that 2 former winners are yet to enter. Surely the Current Champion will be over to defend his title?
