Hassocks A 3 Watermill 3
Pete 5290 Gavin 2460 Colin 1470 Mark 3360 Derek 7440 Paul 790 Dilly 7440 Norman 590 Jenny 1360 Kim 2970 Some good games Gavin four timed his opening break and let Pete in for a break of 2000 then Gavin got nearly 1500 before Pete got the break back and got another 2000 Mark played the best I have seen him play for a long time no trouble with the break and scored consistently Colin i'm afraid did not have a lot of luck The game between Norman and Dilly might have been different had Norman not lost a score of 2000 when going well but saying that that Dilly played extremely well knocking up several nice breaks but he missed his opening break. Jenny played well in the final game but lost a possible winning break with the ball tight against the white peg if she had kept that score who knows as she was going well. Unusual to see two scores like Pete's and Dilly exactly the same.

Hi again Clive did you see the reply from milka maybe that's the answer it is only the mid-late 70s and maybe early 80 that interest me.I printed of the final league tables for 1976-77 my first season in div 6 finished mid-table then promotion the next three seasons.Where have all those pubs and their tables gone 68 teams in 6 div's now probably 20 or less.

I was just looking at the list of the Brighton mens singles winners and see that A.Kipling won it in 1985-86 and just wondered if that was the Alan Kipling that played with me in the early 1980s at the Snipe.I think we packed up in either 1982 or 1983 and before he joined us he did play for the Albion and his father was a regular there.Strange though as his name is not listed in the players profile section.Does anyone know the answer

Thanks for all the replies as I said I started playing in 1976 and it was good to see the league tables for that year.We started in div 6 as Gross Social Club a and we got several promotions. Then the firm closed we then moved to the Snipe then the BRSA (british rail club)where the woolvens played including Clive and Dereks parents.I would guess I would have played at most of those pubs but the Albion was always the pub I liked best.Dennis was always happy to pass on a few tips.I dont know if the barman who was there is still there was his name Brian or Billy sure someone will know.

I forgot to mention I went to Brighton last weekend for the first time in a very long while and went to what was I thought was the open market but boy has it changed.I always shopped in London Road on a Friday evening went to Leesons and got my meat then went to Bardsleys chippy for my supper. But no Leesons there now.Have they moved or shut up shop. Also saw that the Snipe pub is no more. How about the other pubs in that area The long Man,Ladies Mile and the County Oak they all had teams but could not see them in your results.

I just wondered if there was a archive section on the Brighton website.I started playing in 1976 and played for several teams.Started off at my firms team Gross then went to play at the Snipe and then the BRSA club.Just been looking at some of the Brighton scores and there are still players playing who played when I was there such as Colin Smith,Micky Winder,Terry Race,Chris Tupper,Terry Malloy etc.Must have played against them some time. Some of the players who played with me were John Mcfarlane,Harry Leeson,Geoff Dobson,Alan Kipling,Micky Taylor. Also are the Woolven brothers still around Clive and Derek am sure some of the players I mentioned will remember.I always remember Harry Leeson as being a brilliant player and watched when he won I think his third Brighton singles title.Best most natural player I have seen.

Just wondered if there is a archive section on this site as it would be nice to look back.I first played back in 1976 when there were I think six divisions of the Brighton league.I played in several venues including The Snipe,The British Rail club or as it was then BRSA and my old firm which was Gross.

Scores from Watermill v CKRBL Norman 4720 Barry Williams 910 This game started slowly then Norman got the break and knocked up 4000 and well though Barry tried he never really got in the game. Kim 5840 Ted Stringer 1460 Kim seemed out of form and seemed to struggle but got 1860 on his opening break and not much went right for Ted. Kim knocked up 2 further breaks of 1790 and 1460.Ted did manage a small break of 630 but could not get going. Mark 830 Pete Harris 1130 Afraid there is not much to say about this game as both players really struggled to get any decent scores.Mark lost a break of about 350 half way through. But either player could have won. Paul 2540 Peter Maxim 1570 I started really slow and Peter got a lead of about 400 about half way I finally managed to get going and got about 1500 ahead Peter managed another small break of a few hundred but I managed the win. Neil 430 Andy Farmer Wright 5070 Andy got 2000 on his opening break and scored consistently and really never gave Neil a look in Enjoyable evening and looking forward to going back to the Legion after a long break.

Barry West 5330 Mark 1940 Mark only got 450 on his opening break Barry got the break back and scored a nice 3480 and although Mark tried never really got back into the game Adam Ruffle 1760 Paul 1940 Adam four timed his opening break but I failed to take advantage and from there onward it was just small scores and I was about 300 behind when I attempted a red into the 100 from the back of the table and it ended up in the 200 pocket bar dropped soon after and the bar dropped and I had pinched the game Adam unlucky. Bob Landsdall 2020 Gavin 3990 Gavin broke of with 1800 and scored consistently Bob then got the break back and made a lovely break of 1660 but needed another five minutes or so and could have won it.Good game of two halves. Chris Lambe 1590 Norman 5390 Chris missed the break and the game took a while to get going but when Norman got the break back knocked up a break of 3570 and two further breaks of almost 800 Chris got a break of 600 but really was never in the game. Dom Ashby 1920 Kim 50 Kim got both balls down on his first break shot then left 1 ball up and then pegged Dom then got a break of 995 which turned out to be enough to win the game as Kim struggled all game just could not get on with the table even getting a black peg which is not like him.

Watermill 3 HHUSC B 2
Gavin 2010 Ian 1680 Very close game could have gone either way Ian missed the break and did not have much luck with the balls Gavin lost a break of about 900 mid game but held on. Paul 1540 Darrell 1520 Another game that could have gone to either player no big scores at the end I thought I needed to leave one up but put both balls down and thought I had lost but I had misread the scores so won by 20 Neill 1780 John 2310 Neill played very well and could easily have won John got a break of 1000 and Neil got some reasonable small scores but John played well enough to win Mark 300 Steve 3640 Mark missed the break and afterwards was never really in the game Steve played the table well and was never in trouble. Kim 4860 Chris 420 Chris was another to have trouble getting the break and had several go's during the game Kim got a break of 1700 followed by a breaks of 2340 and 490 which was more than enough to take the game and match. Very enjoyable evening with Ian and his boys look forward to the return and wish them all the best for the rest of he season.

Watermill 2 St Francis 3
Mark 1870 Roger 700 Very scrappy game as none of the players could put together any sort break Gavin 950 Bob 1600 Again a another game like the first one Gavin missed the break and never got it back again and Bob just plugged away and did just enough to win Paul 750 Annette 1780 I was never in this from the start Annette broke with about 700 and scored on most visits to the table and seemed to keep leaving some really difficult balls but she played well. Norman 3100 Peter 1110 Norman broke off with 400 and got another 970 before Peter got a score of 820 Norman then got 1230 and then it was just small scores of about 250+ Kim 2260 Sean 4540 A game that could have gone either way Sean was in front for a long time then Kim left both up on the one off and Sean managed a decent score Kim then got 2000 which brought him almost level Sean then got 1300 to go about 1000 up Kim then got the break back and was on about 1000 and the scores were about level again but he then four timed leaving Sean with the break and game over.
