Paul BP Mick Palmer 1810 I black pegged with last shot but could not win game a bit scrappy

Very good game Sam only got 250 on his break then Gavin got the break back and got 1350 followed by 660 Gavin seemed to score something on every visit to the table.Sam played well without much luck All in all a enjoyable evening and thanks to the lodge team for helping to make itenjoyable

I as you probably know play for the watermill and we have been drawn against the watermill Phoenix in the cup and have been asked to play at the laughing Fish which is crazy.Neither of us are going to win this competition so why could we not play nearer home.We could even have played at.the watermill or perhaps the brewers but no. rules are rules. To me it is crazy.Myself I do not know who does the organising for this competition but surely sense should have prevailed when the draw came out what harm would it have done

This is just to let the bar billiard players of Mid Sussex known that John Willis who played at the Watermill has passed away and his funeral will be held this Thursday 17th.On his day John was a really good player and more than capable of beating anyone. He was a real character and will be really missed. He had been ill for a long time and suffering so maybe this was for the best.If anyone would like to attend the funeral then contact Gavin at the :( :(watermill for details.Farewell John thanks for all the memories RIP.

There is no way any of us would rig the table one of the reasons being we would not know how to We have played on a couple of iffy tables this season one being the greyhound and Trevor apologised for the problems it caused everyone struggled. As for there being no food available was I correct in saying it was down to the laughing fishes captain or one of that team to organise the food and that it was not down to the Watermill B's captain to arrange it if so why is Henry moaning about it

Regarding the statement by Henry saying that our top was the worst he had played on this season. Two weeks prior to that we had a Sussex singles match there and that was the best match I have seen.Mr Norman, Kim and Martin just stood and watched and admired the play at the end the winner said it was the best table he had played on all season.Cannot remember their names the winner was from Eastbourne and the other from Worthing. The winner broke of with about 13,000 in the first game I think which won that game the other player did almost the same in the second game and won that one and it was just winning the toss for the decider which won the game.Richard Jefferies played a singles game later and the table was fine then as well. The table has not been moved or touched since those games. We played on there last night and it was fine at least our table has not been set up so people can achieve very high scores it is set up to suit everybody. As for there being no food available I thought it was up to the home team captain or one of the team to ring up and organise it I would like to know what was meant by a certain absent captain do you mean Martin if so we were playing elsewhere and anyway it is not his job to organise your food.As someone else has said you should keep away from the black peg then you might have chance of winning. All in all it sounds like sour grapes to me what would have happened if your team had won not much I expect.

I have just spent a week in the Royal Sussex Hospital in Brighton for heart surgery and the day before I left John Macfarlane was transfered to my ward and he had had the same operation as me.I played in the same team as john ie the Snipe for quite a few years and although he never got up there with the big boys so to speak was still a darn good player and always hard to beat and loved playing against the break loved the challenge. He said he now uses the Ladies Mile in Patcham but stopped playing in 1998.I think he will be in hospital for at least another four or five days and I am sure he would love to see any of his bar billiards mates. He is in Ward 7A in the millenium Building of the royal sussex.Thought I would just let you all know as he must have quite a few old friends out there.
Regards
Paul

Eight Bells 2 - 3 Watermill B
Trevor Appleby1870 Adi White 1280 This is a game Adi should have won he broke off with 1300 but in doing so left the one ball behind the 10 hole he hit it but in doing so hit the peg on the way back. Gary Foster 1460 Mark Ridley 1330. This game was nip and tuck all the way through.Last ball mark needed the 100 to win and Gary the 200 to win.Marks first was a long way off then he had a second go and clipped the edge of the pocket his third attempt same result andn Gary finally got the 200 at his third attempt. Tony Driver 0 Gavin Boyd 1400 This was another low scoring game that could have gone either way.Gavin managed to put together a decent break mid way and that won him the game. Pam Peacock 1200 Martin Range 1630 Martin just managed to win this at the end.Pam was unlucky with several shots and who knows what wouldhave happened if they had gone in. Ros Appleby 2410 Paul Blackburn 3430 I hit my opening break too soft and left both balls over the 50 pockets but Ros did not take full advantage.I had no score on the board after my first six or seven shots and Ros was by now building up a bit of a lead. She managed to get the break back a few times but did not take advantage.About ten minutes left and I was over a 1000 behind but got the break back and knocked up 1900.There was not enough time then for Ros to catch up.A good win but dissapointed we did not get the 5.0 I think we deserved on the night.

When I played in the Brighton league for the Snipe Jim then played for the Ladies Mile and it was always a pleasure to play him even though when I did play him he would always beat me.I believe he also played at the Long man pub in Carden Avenue as well.He will be sadly missed.I have only saw this post today otherwise I would have attented the funeral.

Brewers Royals 2 watermill B 3
Jan Hinkins 1620 Sabina Williams 1880 Sabina missed her first attempt at the break but when she got it back she pkayed her best game of the season although Jan tried hard she could not catch up. 0.1
Val Gritton 1220 Tony Wiliams 1600 Both players seemed to struggle and it could have gone either way. 0.2
Lyn Storr 2150 Paul Blackburn 1550 I missed the break and lyn got it back and from there on it was a struggle.I still had no score on the board after ten mins and Lyn was scoring small but regulary.I finally managed to put a few decent scores together but it was too late. 1.2 Russell Jennings BP Martin Range 2150 This game was nip and tuck all the way through right down to the last ball.Martin needed the 100 to win Russell needed the 200 to tie.Martin missed his first go at the 100 then Russell hit his shot at the 200 two soft it stopped on the edge.Martin missed again and then Russell overcompensated and the ball went down but so did the black peg.1.3 Anne Stockinger 2180 Gavin Boyd 1440 Anne was in front all the way through and played a nice game and deserved to win. This was a game Gavin would rather forget I think. 2.3
We are back there again next week for the charity league. Good night out and good food and a nice crowd what more could you ask for.

Watermill B 4 1/2 Whitehorse 1/2
All the games with the exception of the last one could have gone either way as you will see
Paul Blackburn 2000 Colin Marshall 1950 Colin did not get much from his opening break but did not leave me much which was the story of the game.I was 550 behind with about 5 mins left and scored about 500.I needed the 100 to win which I was lucky enough to get. Tony Williams 4270 Colin Mansfield 3110 Tony broke off with just over 1000 then after some small scores Colin got the break back and knocked up 2500+.Tony then got the break back and knocked up another 2000+ and held on for the win. Sabina Williams 1210 Ian Powel 1000 Sabina started with only a couple of hundred from her break and Ian was struggling all through the game. There were no big scores just a few hundred here and there and Sabina held on to win. Gavin Boyd 1160 Brian Coleman 1160 This was one of those rare tied games Gavin stuggled on the break which was unusual for him. This was a game of very low scores throughout.Gavin needed the 100 to win but missed and Brian needed the 200 to tie and put it down. Martin Range 3300 Trevor Howes 280 Martin was alway in control of this game Trevor missed the break and when he got it back he left both balls up on the one up shot.
Always enjoy playing the white horse who are a great bunch very friendly and a great laugh.
Very close which

Plough 2 v Watermill B 3
Mark Potter 900 Adie White 2270 Adie played a very solid game and scored consistently and Mark never had much luck with the balls 0-1
Mark Webber 2750 Mark Ridley 1190 This game was closer than the score suggests Mark broke off with about 1200 and then it was just scores of 200+.The other Mark struggled to put together any big breaks. 1-1
Keith Potter 1500 Paul Blackburn 1760 I played the break to soft and let Keith in but he did not take much advantage and it then became a game of short breaks. It got to the last ball I was 160 in front but managed to find the 100 hole to win. 1-2
Des Gasson 3070 Gavin Boyd 1180 Des played well to get the highest score of the evening.Gavin did ok and got the break back and did what I did and left both ball over the pocket game over. 2-2. Geoff Parsons 1490 Martin Range 1560 This game was nip and tuck all the way Martin played the break too soft and left both balls up but geoff did not take the advantage.Martin was 130 behind and needed the 200 to win and it just reached the pocked and dropped in. 2-3 A very good evening and a nice crowd and good food.Table was a bit slow compared to ours which caught us out playing the break but apart from that played very well. I suppose this must go down as one of the surprise results of the season.Big Norm did not believe us at first when we got back and with them winning as well a good night for the Watermill.

This a message from Joe.
My name is suddenly Joe this week.
We Watermill B had a wonderful match, we where laughing and had great fun during the last session having we lost already!
I don’t know why I was jumping 2 yards behind the table when a ball stopped on the edge, I had potted a ball so I was still in the game, it was enthusiasm and excitement that I had for me a good score in hand.
When I realised what I did, I straight away went to Jock and apologised he was moaning and wanted to disqualify me, I didn’t agreed but suggested lost of score Yes.
Every body had a laugh and Jock told me to play on!
Afterwards Jock and I had a talk about the situation and I regretted it was a stupid mistake.
When I read all the fuss about this on the forum I thought WHAT are we doing here! Is the Forum to punish people for silly a reaction? I just want to play a game and have a fun evening!
We as new comers from last year enjoy the game and the other players we meet.
We have a great time but please don’t be so serious, I can’t make a living out of this game or do you?
The Flying Dutchman.

Brewers Droops 3 Watermill B 2
Richard Jefferies 4410 v Sabina Williams 1780
Sabina started with a break of 470 Richard then got a nice break of 2080 followed by another of 850.Sabina was going well at 860 but then pegged it.Richard got a couple more breaks of 930 and 630 and although Sabina managed a couple of small breaks time ran out. 0-1 Fred Jones 500 v Tony Williams 1500
Fred started with a break of 250 and Tony was struggling to get a decent break and made a couple of 200+ breaks.Fred then had a break going of 520 and black pegged it and game over. 1-1
Lorraine Hall 5730 v Paul Blackburn 280
I completely missed the break and Lorraine took charge with breaks of 2400,1900 and 860.I wont mention my scores except to say must try harder. 2-1
Richard Shepherd 1980 v Gavin Boyd 1510 This was a rather scrappy game as neither player could put together a decent break.Richard started with a break of 450 and that was one of the highest scores. 3-1
Colin Humphrey 1310 v Martin Range 1870 Martin started with opening break of 960 then Colin got a break of 430.Martin then got some smaller breaks of 200+ and although Colin managed another break of 520 he ran out of time. 3-2 A good evening had by all good food a nice pint of Harveys and footie on the Tele what more could we want except a win.

Watermill B v Hurst B
Sabina Williams 710 v Ian Griffin 3620 Martin Range 1770 v John 1870 Gavin Boyd 2770 v Steve King 4610 Steve Lathwell 430 v D.Skinner 2690 Paul Blackburn 2130 v Chris Kirkham 1810
Ian started with a break of 1300 Sabina then got a break of 350.Ian followed up with another break of 1000+ .Sabina seemed to struggle although it must be said she did not have much luck with the balls. 0-1 Martin started with a break of only 520 and this seemed to be the story of this match.John managed a break of about 850 and Martin managed to match him.Down to the last ball and Martin needed just the 100 hole to win and missed then his opponent missed another chance for Martin and he missed again that was his last shot. 0.2 Steve started with only 500 and Gavin was struggling Steve made another 1000.Gavin then got a quick? 1400 and the match wasalmost all square and then Steve made a quick 2000+ and Gavin was out of time but best game of the night. 0.3 Steve started with only 150 and his opponent got a breakof 950 while Steve really struggled and his opponent got another 850 and the game was over. 0.4 Chris started with only 100 from the break and I scored nothing from my first few goes.I then got a break about 1500 during which I left the red ball right down by the baulk line which meant getting the break back was quite difficult.I managed a couple of hundred in the left hand 50 hole and although Chris got another 600 at the end he ran out of balls. 1.4
Good evening and the Hurst B boys helped make it a very enjoyable evening apart from the result.

CKRBL 5 Watermill B 0
D.Taylor 3810 v M.Range 2020 Martin broke off with 450.Derek then got a break of 1000+ and then another two of 850 & 900.Martin struggled to put together any decent scores which is unlike him so far this season 1-0 Shaky Coles 3290 v Sabina Williams 550 Shaky started with a break of 2008 and that was game over as the balls just would not drop for Sabina and it was just not her night but it will come. 2-0 Peter Edwards 3870 v Paul Blackburn 2080 I broke off with zilch but when Peter failed to get the break back I was lucky enough to put all the balls down and get the break back and knocked up a break of 1900 half of them going in the left hand fifty hole.Peter then got the break back and knocked up a quick 2000+ which made the scores almost level but he then got the break again at the death and got another quick 1010. It was dissapointing to lose right at the end but I was pleased with my performance.Peter played well considering at one time he was 2000 adrift. 3-0 Ted Stringer 6090 v Gavin Boyd 1100 Ted started off with a break of 2000+ and although Gavin ot the break back he did not take full advantage of it and Ted quickly got the break back and knocked up another break of almost 3000 and the game was over. 4-0 Dilly Williams 3390 v Tony Williams 860 Tony never really got to grips with the table and missed the break Dilly then knocked up 1000+ and with a further 900 a few shots later and Tony struggling the game was slipping away from him.Dilly continued to pot the balls and although Tony managed to pot some towards the end it was too late. 5-0

Watermill B v Plough Martin Range 1680 Geoff Parsons 1070 Rather a scrappy game as the score line suggests.geoff missed the break and then Martin got the break and he missed it.Not much more you can say. Steve Lathwell 1560 v Des Gasson 1870 Another scrappy game.Steve started with a break of 430 and then left both up.Des then got a break of 1040.After that it became a battle at the back of the table. Paul Blackburn 520 v Mark Webber 3050 Mark started with a break of1560 then I eventually got the break and got my score up to 1800.Mark got the break again and scored another 1100.I was then on a score of 860 when I contrived to hit the black peg and game over. Nigel Orme 280 v Keith Potter 4210 Nigel started with a break of about 550 and then pegged it keith got the break back scored about 1100.A few shot s later he got the break again and put together a break of 2900 which was well compiled Sabina Williams 760 v ? 3790 Sabbina's opponent sorry forgot in the excitement to make a note of his name started with a break of 2520 and although Sabina tried hard and got the break a couple of times her opponent got the break back and knocked up another 820.So that was game and match over.
