Hey peeps I did speak to the hotel about my room and did fill in a feed back form, it did seem strange that the others in our party who had booked singles actuallyhad a double and single bed in their rooms, so I guess the hotel dropped a clanger, fortunately it didn't effect my weekend, which I rely enjoyed. I certainly didn't mention it to chelle as she had more than enough on her plate, plus it wasn't her problem
I think all the downside bits were down to the hotel not being prepared and hopefully by March next year it will all be sorted as they will know what to expect.
Thanks again to everyone for making us feel welcome

Well thanks from all us Suffolk for a fun weekend and a very big pat on the back for Michelle and her crew for organising the event.
Yes there were some hiccups along the way, the hotel were obviously totally unprepared even though I am sure they were warned. The playing area was very compact, no ventilation, not very covid safe and infact unpleasantly hot at times.
I cant talk for anyone else but my room was very disappointing, not the cleanest and for a double room it was tiny.
The lack of real ale certainly put a big damper on the weekend with all the real pubs a good 15 to 20 min walk away meaning no time between games to pop out and have a proper beer and on the Sunday morning being told the bar wouldnt be open by the time the first set games were due to start was a big blow, couldnt even get a glass of coke.
But as I said, thanks to the organisers, they cant be blamed for the problems, the tournament itself ran like clockwork and im sure everyone enjoyed the playing side of things

Well Dave, you certainly have one game in your group you wont have to worry about as you're playing a couple of four pinners. Brett has never played a game of three pin and I've played 6 legs and never even come close to winning any of them.
There are six of us 4 pinners coming down, if things go well and we have a good weekend I'm sure next year we can get a few more to join us, although some players are a little worried about paying for travel, hotels etc and then may only get a couple of shots all weekend, at least for Brett and myself this can only be a good thing as it wont get in the way of drinking.
Are there any tables around Bournemouth where we can go off and have a couple of games before we get humiliated in the tournament?
All being well we will see you for a fun weekend
Dave

Hmmmm, overthinking the rules of bar billiards is never a good thing.
Just to make you think a little harder though,,,,, in 4 pin if a ball is touching a peg but the peg hasnt moved it is left in place until it is either moved or returned as the nearest/last ball. If how ever the peg is moved then the peg is left in place until the end of the break and only then is it replaced on its spot and if a ball is preventing this that ball is removed and returned to the tray.
Just about every player I know, both 3 and 4 pin are sportsmen or women and would never deliberately play to miss a ball

Thanks to everyone who made an appearance during the day, it certainly helped take my mind off the other crap that is on going.
I'm not sure that sav forcing me to drink old growler (at %5) at 10-45 in the morning was really the best way to start the day.

Seems us 4 pinners are a bit slow,, as always.
Below is a copy of the latest email sent out be our league secretary earlier this week.
Hi All, Just to keep you all in the loop it has been decided to hold a committee meeting on Monday 23rd August to discuss the way forward for the Sudbury & District Bar Billiard League. Depending on the outcomes of that meeting we may well have to arrange an AGM and I anticipate that that would be arranged for mid September allowing you time now to do some groundwork to formulate teams. I will communicate with you again after the committee meeting to let you know the decisions made. Regards, Graham

Tommo re edwardstone white horse, the table was used lots, they had two teams in the league, I think political reasons caused played to either retire or move on. The table was never in good condition, always covered in white chalk dust from the darts score board above it and wobbly legs where it used to get dragged around when being moved.
Having said all that I think new people took the place over a couple of years ago and several months ago I was contacted and asked if knew anyone who could refurbish the table for them as they were keen to get at least one team back in the league. Phone numbers, contact details etc were exchanged so hopefully the table has been given a new lease of life.

On behalf of the Surrey / Sussex visiting contingency, I feel confident in saying that we have never been made so welcome anywhere. Wonderful weekend, wonderful hosts, wonderful improvisation after the booking cockup. The pubs, the meals, the tables and most of all the new friends. THANK YOU SO MUCH SUDBURY. ESPECIALLY PAUL AND KATHY AT THE MASONIC HALL. 👌👌👌👌💋💋💋💋 I guess it's a lesson learnt, don't leave checking in until early evening. Still at least we managed to sort it somehow and you got to visit some different places including the non league venue namely the five bells

Well,,,, that was a weekend and a half, thanks to everyone who came up to Sudbury. I'm suffering today after certain people forced some of us to drink too much. I do remember sleezy winning at killer, collecting his winnings and then putting £40 behind the bar 😁 after that things are a little blurred. Hopefully we can do it for real next march

Let's hope you are right and it can go ahead. Rumours from the breweries don't sound too promising though. They are expecting restrictions on numbers inside to remain at 6 or possibly increased to 10. Face masks still to be warn when standing. Let's hope they are wrong but I think now people are holding on to hear the next announcement before they commit.
I've got a few bottles of hand sanitiser (13) I had ready for our open in Suffolk so if still needed don't go out and buy any

Just to let you know, if any of you still fancy coming up to Sudbury I have just cancelled the booking for all the rooms at the bay horse so there are some rooms available there, just remember its room only, NO breakfast.
We hope to organise some bar billiards on the Saturday, but what we do will depend on the numbers and what restrictions, if any are still in place. If the rule of 6 is still in force for inside we may be snookered a little.
A few people have aready let me know that they are still coming up and it would be handy if anyone else is thinking about it if they could let me know so we have an idea of numbers. Obviously we will be playing in a pub rather than the masonic hall.

Thanks for persevering with your attempts to get me to spend loads of money on beer. Sad but sensible Dave, I'm going to miss it. Smelly cheese arrived today as well! Count me in if there's a smaller gathering, provided it does not conflict with our ongoing NHS problem delays here.
Well the smelly cheese will be ripe by July

I am sure you don't really need me to tell you but, unfortunately due to circumstances completely beyond our control we have had no option but to cancel our open. I am really sorry for any inconvenience caused, I know some people have already booked their accommodation for the weekend. If on the 19th July the restrictions are lifted I'm sure if any of you still want to come up to Suffolk we can organise some friendly games to be played in between drinking.
Sorry once again and thank you to everyone for your support.

Just a very quick update.
We are hoping to get our committee members together on Tuesday 15th June when we hope we can make a decision on our open.
At the moment it seems 50-50 and things could go either way, it also seems to depend on which newspapers you read.
Lets hope its all good news.

Quite a few people have now contacted me asking about our proposed tournaments scheduled for Sat 24th and Sunday 25th of July and whether they are going ahead. Although plans are in place to hold these on the dates above, at present our hands are tied by govermant restrictions and the roadmap out of lockdown. We wont know if we are going to move into the next phase of this until June 14th at the earliest, so until this date it seems pointless making entry forms available.
The way I see it is there are three possible scenarios.
First. No or not enough restrictions are lifted to make it possible to play and the event is cancelled.
Two. Some restrictions are lifted and we can play as long as we make the event as covid safe as possible. I have written a risk assessment to try and cover this and it will mean we need to do the following as a minimum.
The tables, score boards and balls will be cleaned and treated with byotrol disinfectant (this is proven to be effective against the coronavirus for up to 24 hours) before the start of play, this proceedure will then be repeated during the day when we have a natural break between the morning and afternoon groups and again before the start of the KO stages.
Before entering the venue every person must have their temperatures taken and record a normal result.
Every person, players, spectators helpers etc must register their details with the admin, this will be used for track and trace purposes.
Hand sanitizer will be available in the entrance lobby, admin desk and beside each bar billiards table.
Fask masks must be worn by everyone while standing except for the players and scorer
Latex gloves will be made available for the scorers.
Players should sanitize their hands before the start of each game
We are a friendly bunch and I believe that shaking hands after games should be encouraged but left up to the individual to decide. Players must sanitize their hands after the game
That covers the basic, but we could be forced to introduce more measures including insisting every person entering the hall has had a negitive flow test in the previous 48 hours. Plus anything else the goverment throws at us.
Third. All restrictions are lifted and we carry on as normal. I still believe cleaning the tables and the use of hand sanitizer by everyone will be wise.
Please remember covid is here to stay and there is no guarantee that thing won't go pear shaped the day before our open and we are hit with new restrictions or plunged into another lockdown forcing us to cancel at very short notice
We hope to hold a committee meeting in the next few weeks and it would be very useful if you could leave any comments below, obviously including whether you intend to enter if we are able to go ahead.
Sorry about the length of this post, but this could be one of the first opens played for well over a year and it is important we get things right, mainly for everyones safety but also for the future of our game and further opens.
Thank you in anticipation of your help and understanding.
Lets hope we all get to meet up and play in July
Dave

Chris unfortunately your league will not be the only one, I would imagine just about every bar billiards league is in the same position. Here in Suffolk there are no plans for restarting the Sudbury and District league for at least another six months.
We are unlucky in, along with pool, that our game requires a special table that at the moment takes up valuable bums on seats space.things like crib and dominoes just use the normal pub tables so in a landlords eye these will take preference, thats assuming there are no social distancing issues.
I think we all need to take the softly softly approach, let pubs reopen, let the mad rush and honeymoon period come and go and only then ask about reinstating bar billiards tables. If we go in guns blazing, asking or even demanding for our tables back, landlords may just totally dismiss the idea and we will lose another venue.
We all have to remember that covid is still here, killing hundreds of people, and it is here to stay. Scientists are already predicting another wave, so we must all try to play our part and prove them wrong.

It's also still the moto gp weekend at Silverstone so always expensive to stay there then have also found a flat for the weekend with free cancellation on trivago. It will just be good to have something to look forward to again fingers crossed. Regards PO Have you got a spare room? I just checked the ibis and the cheapest room they are showing for the Saturday night is £141, the week before and after are coming up at £51

It is hoped that the Sudbury and District bar billiards league will be able to hold their AGM in either July or August with a view to restarting the league with a brand new season starting no earlier that October this year. Hopefully by this time we will be well and truly out of lockdown and will have a clear idea of what restrictions, if any remain in place, which will allow us to restart playing in the safest environment possible.

same as always, no more than 4 answers every four hours
1 If there's some living to be done, Before your life becomes your tomb, You'd better know that I'm the one, Unchain your back door invite me around
2 You're happy when I'm on my knees, One day it's fine and next it's black, So if you want me off your back.
3 They print my message in the Saturday Sun, I had to tell them I ain't second to none, And I told about equality and it's true, Either you're wrong or you're right
4 So if you are in sight and the day is right, She's a hunter, you're the fox, The gentle voice that talks to you. Won't talk forever, It is a night for passion
5 He's got morning glory and life's a different story,Everything's going jackanory, Touched with his own mortality, He's reading Balzac, knocking back Prozac
6 'Cause you said the brains I had went to my head, Step outside, summertime's in bloom, Stand up beside the fireplace
7 But now, we're going 'round in circles, Tell me will this déjà vu never end, oh, And now you tell me that you're falling in love, Well I never ever thought that would be,
8 I feel like I've been locked up tight, For a century of lonely nights, Waiting for someone to release me, You're lickin' your lips, And blowing kisses my way
9 Don't you know it's true what they say, That life, it ain't easy, But your time's coming around, So don't you stop tryin
10 I need a man to be a real man In order of what I got in store, Always finish what you start baby, And always having me beg for more, You know I want to be a diggy down boy
11 Don't try to tell me what I already know, Don't criticise me 'cause I'm running the show, Some revolution is going to happen today, I'm gonna chase the dark clouds away
12 Now there's no point in placing the blame, And you should know I suffer the same, If I lose you, My heart will be broken
13 See I was on the verge of breaking down, Sometimes silence can seem so loud, There are miracles in life I must achieve, But first I know it starts inside of me
14 So many jokes, so many sneers, But all those oh-so-nears, Wear you down,Through the years
15 I look in your eyes, there's a distant light, And you and I know there'll be a storm tonight, This is getting serious, Are you thinking 'bout you or us?
16 His philosophy of life will steer him through, And as far as he can see, He's the same as you and me, There's nothing in the world he cannot do
17 Oh yeh, I know a goodbye when I hear it, She smiles but her heart's already out there, Walking down the street
18 I've been a player in the crowd scene, A flicker on the big screen, My soul embraces one more in a million faces, High hopes and aspirations, and years above my station
19 It's been so lonely without you here, Like a bird without a song, Nothing can stop these lonely tears from falling, Tell me baby, where did I go wrong?
20 And some days, it don't come easy, And some days it don't come hard, Some days it don't come at all, And these are the days that never end, And some nights you're breathing fire

Can we have our room ? At the pub ? Of course, I had already provisionally booked your room anyway, Just in case. Im not sure if your read, we have moved our open to the Sunday and plan to hold a doubles tournament on the Saturday late afternoon and early evening so I will just need to know what nights you want to stay. I am sure there will be something going on on the Friday night involving drinking . If it helps your regular neighbour has booked the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. There is one other thing, if there is the slightest wiff of smelly cheese we may demote you to the tent at the bottom of the garden. All of this is still very much dependent on covid, we are hopeful that by July we will be back to some kind of normality but we will be guided by our goverments rules. Hopefully see you in July Stay safe Dave
